Well I'll admit I've never completed the Mallyx quest... whenever I go in there nobody is willing to take me, and since I can't hench it...

Usually, after about 10 minutes of looking for a group, I just go back to hard mode.

Gotta tell you, this is one of the biggest things that bothers me about GW. Not the elitism per se. More so the "1337 trinty" which rules over pretty much all of PvE. From FoW to DoA it is present. The only areas that are not trinty ruled are either exclusively solo'd/trapped or using some other 1337 gimmick build (ie barrage/pet).

Honestly, how rewarding does it feel when you buy nightfall, make yourself a pretty new nightfall exclusive class character, and play through the campaign only to behold to your shagrin that... oh no... your character is useless in the elite areas!? That, hold on a second here... only 4 classes are even viable?! WTF.

Noone is going to pick you up for a group! Hell no. And if your lucky enough to get a PUG, most likely it's a bunch of people who just finished the game and have not yet acquainted themselves with the cheapass monsters with cheapass monster skills that DoA holds a plethora; aka die instantly.

The sad thing about this whole situation is, that GW as a whole seems to lean towards this trinity. It's almost as though other professions are merely a sideshow. Something you play for fun between playing you war/ele/monk.

Maybe I'm just exaggerating... Maybe it's all in my head... But I'll be damned, I've never felt so wanted as when I made my elementalist. And I'll be a noob, but noone ever wants to pick me up when I'm on my sin, rit, or... godforbid my mesmer... GASP! It doesn't even matter if I'm doing an elite area or consulate docks.

There is really something wrong with the high end areas, along with their high end loot are exclusive to a handful of very specific classes. It's not game design you say? That anyone can do it you say? Well sure, 2x the time you say? Why the bloody hell should it take 2x the time if they are viable!!! Doesn't that scream inbalance???

In a bigold mesmer PvE thread, the OP said (referring to mesmers but it seems to apply in this case to all the unused classes) something along the lines of... in general, PvE is basic enough that you could run around naked and still succeed. Though, it might take you 2hr and a handful of deaths. So in that light, being "able" to do something with a class doesn't imply that the class doesn't have a problem when it comes to PvE.

When a class is replacable by another class in PvE, then there is a problem with the balance of that class. It means that the purpose or advantage to having the former class is either diluted or ineffective. Who needs a mesmer... ever? What about a sin, anyone? Hell, even a paragon, nope?

A mesmers disruption or shutdown is practically useless when it comes to a pack of mobs. A sins damage is unneeded in the face of an ele nuker who is less liable to die. Who needs a paragon's supportive shouts when they are all watered down in comparison to any of the direct sources. See my point?

It's a horrible letdown to see 'hard' translated into 'more exclusive', excluding players regardless of the player's actual skill because their class is ineffectual with the current pve game mechanics. And ugh people, making a trinity class character is not a solution to the problem, it's just ignoring that there's a problem.

Don't forget silver armor. :P

I've successfully completed all parts of DoA numerous times. With mesmers, rangers, warriors, dervishes, assasins, elementalists, necros, monks. In fact, the only two missing from any group I've been in are paragons and ritualists.

People don't so much discriminate against classes as discriminate against noobs in DoA. It's a small community there, and if you prove you can play as one of the usual cookie cutter builds, people will be much more accepting of your different profession and build attempts. I run into the same people time and time again there, and people are always experimenting with different builds. I'm not going to take someone standing around screaming 'PARAGON LFG MALLYX THE UNYIELDING'. But if I have an ele in my group who after a succesful run says 'well, I'm tired of nuking here, I've been thinking about this neat paragon build that I think could work. here is the template, here is why I think it will work, and why don't we give it a shot sometime?' I will almost certainly give it a try. If you want real class discrimination, take a trip into the Deep. That place is diabolical now.

The trouble is, people just don't understand that this is an ELITE area. It isn't designed for the casual player. Almost everyone I play with there can reroll on a number of professions and play them with confidence. My primary character is a mesmer. Even though I love her to bits, I knew that getting a team in DoA was going to be hard. So I brought my necro and ele through NF, and learnt to do DoA that way; now I have the knowledge to try out some new and interesting builds there on my other characters.

A guild is the way to go about things like DoA. Otherwise, you have to stick with the 'holy trinity' and get to play as one of them. Most people there aren't open to ideas because they're there to farm, not to test anything. There's a farming build that's ready for use, why waste time making a new one. Now that I think of this, yeah, it's kind of narrow minded...

By the way, to the person above me, I agree with everything you said. That's how I do stuff. Except I havn't managed to get a group for DoA yet. I made a bad mistake and brought my tank to DoA first. Lol, I don't think it's a smart choice cuz I don't even know what's going on, and tank is like the most important role there.
