Of course its still possible. They wouldn't make a title impossible and have it still available to max/display.

As for the amount of leeway...If you include the arena's, then there is about 1% max of leeway. Without the Arenas, there is probably under 0.5% leeway. Looks like people are still having some mapping issues. I helped out for awhile unoffically in the mapping thread when I got my ranger Tyrian GMC. Maybe I'll check back in more often.

Tyrian is by far the hardest to map, IMO. There are many wall glitches and tricks that you pretty much need to use to get to several areas. Like the NT with Rurik and End of the Map wall glitch in the zone by Droks(forgot the name offhand) are two of the more well known ones.
Canthan is probably second hardest just because you have to get both Kurz/Lux faction to get into both sides to map.
And Elona is just down right easy. You run every single bit of map very easily without much hassle for the most part. Should be even easier now with normal mode.

There is only one trick that I think doesn't work anymore. That is the Rebirth doesn't work anymore with bridges. A month or so back I tried to help a friend get above Raisu Palace with the Rebirth trick. But no matter where we tried it didnt work. But that doesn't stop you from getting any extra map from Prophecies though.

NT I think may still work with bridges. But that would require some testing. Go Z-axis abuse. :-p

Sorry, but I'm not of the same opinion that you can still get the GMC title. I've had about 98.9 for a LONG time. I can't find any more than that. If they have taken out our ability to get into the arenas around the continent, then they should take that amount out of the requirement for the title. Just my opinion.

As the primary map checker for Tyrian Cartographers I can attest to the fact that the GMC title is very attainable with and without the arenas.

I do agree that since arenas are no longer available to all players then that percentage should no longer count towards the title.

As for your map, try submitting it for a comparison. It has helped alot of people in their quest as Tyrian Grandmaster Cartographer.

Well I achieved GM Tyrian Cartographer literally last night so it is still possible. Note that I haven't done any of the "tricks" and necrotic traversal rubbish...

Also note that I have *NOT* explored Dunes of Despair, nor did I get the "north" of the Great Northern Wall mission bit and yet I ended up with 100% explored 1/4th of the way through Hell's Precipice...

That is MASSIVE leeway in my opinion so personally if you're stuck on it then being brutally honest you just haven't taken enough care in doing it... (incidently if I *had* to do Dunes of Despair to gain 100% I'd be more understanding but the fact you can leave off a huge chunk of the non-mission area is a bit stupid...)

It's still possible.
I'm getting GMC for a new character (mesmer) and started this one earlier and more thorough than my first (ranger).
I have uncovered a lot of small pieces that I've missed with my ranger.
There is quite a lot of ground you don't have to cover for GMC.
Map compare, as Wobrak offered, helps.

RVallant, I do understand Dunes not being a necessairy part of GMC.
It is probably a mix between two things.
First of all, the map of Tyria has some 'features' that count to GMC, like the large part above Ice Caves of Sorrow. I think it's a map glitch, but missing it could make you need Dunes.
Second, it's not possible to explore Dunes in one run when you play the mission the way you are suppost to. The 10 minutes is just too short to cover the whole area. And you need at least one monk to cover the boss to even get 10 minutes of exploration.
The necrotic traversal trick does not always work (boss too far away, no Jade things around). So to get that to work you might have to restart the mission several times.

in Reply to RVallant. Dude your full of it. No way you could have had 100% without Dunes, and the area north of the wall in down town Charr-ville.

MarSgt Strongbow,

RVallant could be right. I think it's very possible if he started early and entered the old arenas.

Look at my map at http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...21985&page=164
#3269 which is a full 100% map of my mesmer, taken right after I got to 100%.
I was watching it, because I was going to help someone in guild when I hit 100%.
Even on the Thumbnail it's visible that a part of Lornar's is not explored.
As RVallant said it: "That is MASSIVE leeway".

This is a map with no old arenas, my mesmer is not even a year old and I started exploring at 60% less than a month ago.

The leeway is perhaps less than with the old areanas.
I have compared Numa's map to one of my 100% ones.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...postcount=3349
The map I compared it to can be found here:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...postcount=3269

On my map, several pieces besides Lornar's are missing.
There are two marked on Numa's map, I am working on fully identifying the rest of them.
Starting Lornar's I was at 99.0% and had to squize that out of the rest of them map, so the uncovered area is about 1%.
In the uncovered area, there are still spots that can be done better.
Most notably the blob on the east wall and a point on the west wall where a boss is inside a mine or something.
Comparing the top of Lornar's to the size of the covered area, I'd say it's about .75-.80%.
That, combined with the top of Grent's Footprint, the spot at Sanctum Cay, A spot in the beginning of Frost Gate mission (I missed that one, Numa did not) and several other points I know about, makes me think the leeway is about 1%.

leeway? no way.

I only miss a small part of lornars, great northern wall and most of dunes bonus area and ruriks path and i'm not even at 96 %. I did all areas twice and i can't see walls anymore, because of the constant "wall-hugging" to uncover every area.

Right now I am working on Elona (85% atm) and after that one I want to finish Tyria.

I still have at least the spot at Grent's Footprint to uncover and the low part of Lornar's.
There are some other small parts I've noticed when comparing to others, I have to check them out.
It's not that much work to find them, but some take time to reach and I don't know how to uncover all.
I've been working on the Grent's, I know my ranger has it and I can't hit the right spot.
There is a spot on Sanctum Cay (the green on your map) that I can't seem to get.

Posting the map on wiki when it is finished is fine, I can make 1280x1024 and 102x768 version.

No Photoshop here, but I could reproduce this with Gimp, I guess.

I have scoured all the maps on forums, and all the other resources i could find, and the leeway is 1% or less without the arenas. I have looked at them compared to my map, and I think i found my areas that i need, but you can't leave anything out or you won't make it.

Nerf?

... Nonsense.
Rurik's path in Frost Gate is still accessable.
Jade Scarabs outside the gates in Dunes of Despair are still accessable.

Not sure about Evennia, but I'd imagine she is still accessable too...

... so where is the nerf?

Anyone saying that Tyria is "impossible" or doesn't have enough leeway just isn't a good cartographer.

I'd have to agree with you and I don't even have the title yet...

How?

Because I just hit 99% and I'm still missing more than half of Lornar's Pass and a third of Snake's Dance.... as well as the edges of Hell's Precipice myself...

mikkel,

Is that 100% with the old arenas or without?
Just curious, since my 100% map misses a large part of Lornar's.

@Numa

You're short a good few nooks and crannies.

That's without. It's on a Dervish. This was done around March. =)

I should have noticed it was a Dervish.
Good going on the rest of the map, I know from experience you have very little unexplored on the rest of the map.

To try to clear it up:

NT only works with areas you can get to thru normal means.

-You can't get to Evenia normally so NT does not work

-You can do Rurik's path with NT. Or with out by putting the lever in the correct winch at the very end will open the gate to his path

-You can do Dunes because the gates normally open when you cap the altar

My girlfriend's char =D

This was just the first run through Tyria without redoing anything, so I'm sure we missed something somewhere.

After the Anets changed to NT in one of the previous updates you were still able to NT to Evennia. This is an area you can get to since there is where the Cutscene Occurs. Anet would not be able to use the Cutscene if they cut off this area. The same for Ruriks Path on the Frost Gate. Dunes is NT-able since as u mention this is a norm exploration area once you capture the altar.
