Default Problem About DoA-The First Tries

Hello, first of all, I want to tell everyone that I'm not flaming in this post.Okay, I just finished NF with my warrior and got to DoA. I have all the skills needed for Obsi Tank, but when I got to DoA, most of the groups didn't get me in their groups when I told them that this would be my first time. I can understand "LF Exp players for HM" parties, but for the other ones, doesnt everyone have a first time? How did the exp players start off? Didn't they have their first times?
Well, I did manage to find some parties that helped me out, at least I can do the LB farm now but for the other quests, I still can't find groups. I know that you'll say "find a DoA guild then" but I'm happy with my guild even though they dont help me out in DoA. I just wanted to share my opinion, I'll just keep trying and finding helpful people.

If you go to Heros Ascent you'll see the exact same thing. You need experience to join a group but you need a group to get experience.

My tip is don't bother. It's much more headache than its worth.

I like first time players as long as they have an open ear to what the Exp players suggest, I have taken many of "newb" players into DoA...if they listen then we win, if they don't we just leave, it is that simple...I do DoA almost everynight, so pm me and we might get you to tank or whatever..

The thing is every position has some room for error EXCEPT the tank (and arguably the SB monk) in DoA. If you screw up the agro, the run will take 100x longer. If you don't know the pull spots, the run will take 100x longer.

As for how everyone got experience.... they, like me, did it back when gems were still going for 100K+XXecto

I knowi I know! And the thing is, I've lived the same thing in HA as you said too, I was finally r3 and happy that people would take me soon, but then everything seemed like that they were all looking for r5+/r9+. I started to raise a monk now, just for farming. I'll try to have a peek at the gate of anguish with my warrior sometimes, to try, but I think if I can observe the aggro spots etc. with another character(that can error a little,as you said) I think I can get the tank's job a little better. Thanks for the advices and all.

Find someone who is willing to take a newb tank and listen to him well.

I tank down there too, but to discover the tanking spots I did everything a few times with my ele and my necro. Now I tank with ele, dervish, warrior and mesmer.

Joining pugs isnt really an option as the tank determines alot, and being in the wrong place can be the difference between almost wipe and easy pass.

I recently had this problem(Ob Tank also), however, I looked around and PMed a few fellow tanks that seemed exp and they showed me some things. I joined a group, didn't say a word about my experience, and went through City like a pro. Don't mention that you aren't experience if you don't have to!

Yes, you see alot of what is going on as an ele, and they are quite popular there, though also in great supply. BiP necro is also a good first as its hardly any different from normal bipping (except the spirits), and boring so u can typically find a group of 7 looking for one .

As long as you have one damage dealer who knows what to do you can stay close to him and do as he does. This is an advantage you dont have as tank, nor as monk (each monk does vastly diffirent stuff and generally follow the tank around a bit, while the damage dealers wait for the lure at the tank spot).

Have to agree with Taurucis.
Not much to earn other then the experience.
If you still feel like doing it, just make a team yourself.
Its how i started anyway.
LFP 2ele, 3monks, 1bip, 1 ss. (3 ele and no ss works too) is the common build.
You will probably fail alot, (think i died at the first mob in every mission the first 10-20 times i tried) but atleast you will get experience from it.
Read through the old guides from when NF was released and you should get some hints about tankingspots etc.

Good Luck!

Dont ever tell about how new you are to a certain area or people usually wont invite you to... if you need to know ask around the forums or PM some people. but asking in local chat just reduces your chances of getting a group.

i know how this feels as i cant ever get a group for HA because im R1.
though i have been playing gw for 1.5 years people still think if youre not R6+ youre a noob... lol hard headed morons

Having one player explain it to 7 who don't know the area, but taking the time to do so can be easily done in DoA, I've done it many a times.

Lure... Abuse Ai.. Nuke...Mistake...Run...Retry...

Don't compare that to HA rank. Or well. Old HA rank anyway, as it's Olias' Ascent atm.

anyone willing to take this obsidan warrior into their DoA group? I follow orders well and my last pary was very happy with me. We nearly cleared veil(my first time) untill the SB monk wanted to take my job XD(ran into the enemies and brought them back to us )

I expect DOA will change a lot especially normal mode as them have nerf it. So you could probably tank as anything if tanking is even necessary.
