my personal opinion - have the events and all as normal, then throw something extra in for the people/areas that were having trouble after. Sorta like the mini event that happened when the disaster happened around christmas (dont remember the details so wont guess) where ppl donated presents. Instead make a special event commemorating the time warps. You could make it a world event with something extra added in for the poeple who had the problems. Would be cooler that instead of taking things away because of the problem they instead gave a bit more. I can see it now, an invasion of lag demons. theyd have 4 unique skills and then a normal skill bar.
1) Shadowstep to opponent
2) force opponent shadowstep to self
3) shadowstep to teamate
4) force opponent shadowstep to random nearby spot.

lol

Over the course of the last week or so, an issue with a core router in Frankfurt, Germany, has resulted in latency for a significant number of Guild Wars players as well as those playing other NCsoft games. We have worked with the router vendor and they have made changes to the router that has corrected the issue. We are very grateful to the players who submitted reports and network diagnoses files to our support team, for those reports were useful in determining the cause of the problem and in helping us initiate the necessary repairs. Game service is now back to normal, and we thank all players for their patience as we resolved this issue.

The question I have to ask is...

...are you not expecting GW:EN to cause lag anyway?

Lets look at the track record of new games being added to guildwars. Factions caused immense lag for about a month after release and Nightfall also caused immense lag for about a month after release.

Chances are that GW:EN will also cause huge lag too, regardless of whether they delay the release or not!

Any existing lag at the minute will make noo difference. They also have around a month before GW:EN comes out, and that is more then enough time for any existing lag to calm down.

But I havent experienced any lag myself that is that bad. From what I read any lag that is hanging around is being caused by line issues in germany. Its not an Anet issue from what I understand.

But nooo they shouldnt delay release!

Lag is just a side effect of internet gaming, and if we delayed everything concerning it due to lag then nothing would ever get done. Plus it would p'off alot of people who have been waiting a long time.

And even if they did delay it, then how long should it be delayed by?

A week, a month, 2 months, a year?

You cant predict when lag will end or begin, or when a server somewhere will have a panick attack and cause issues on the line. You cant predict when a physical land-line will have a hic-up and die either.

Anet cant just sit twiddling their thumbs waiting for BT to ring them back and say "right the lines fixed", then ship their games out. Their a company and they have a schedule to meet and software to supply to their manufacturers. And customers waiting.

Just to add my 2 cents...
My internet connection is a solid, stable, fairly fast but not top of the line connection (I have a standard DSL line). That being said -- in the past 2 years playing GW, the lag in the past few weeks has been worse than I've seen it in a long time (other than random spikes due to events or what-not). I don't think it's unplayable but it IS extremely, totally, indubitably annoying!! I was doing a factions mission the other night going for masters (it was timed) and becuase I lagged out mid-way and had to wait for reconnect - I missed out on masters on an otherwise perfect mission run. Had it not been for lag I would have made it easily for masters. Now I have to completely re-do that quest again if I want masters for my titles. /-:

So in short - it's not really unplayable but it IS a problem that needs dealt with. The bad thing is...it's hard for them to tell how much is your ISP and how much is them. We need to help them fix it by giving more info to anet.
