Such a sadly misinterpreted statistic.
They have sold 3.5 million total copies across 3 campaigns, with the number of players with multiple accts and/or all three chapters this is hardly a "3.5 million strong player base", combine that with the amount of players who bought the game and no longer play .5 million would be a generous guess.
Sorry for clearing that up for you, now by all means get back to whatever the hell kind of misinterpretation of what he was actually talking about you were after.

@OP It's wishful thinking on your part to expect Anet to hold up their new expansion just because the existing one works so poorly for a lot of people, After all they always claim it's not on their end so there is nothing to be fixed by them.
The fact that it hits broadly across many players {that the game normally works fine for} during their special events is merely a coincidence.

You know if you'd stop downloading porn while trying to play guildwars at the same time, you wouldn't experience nearly as much lagg.

Is that how you got it to run better?

I ask as there does not seem to be end in sight and the problem, for me at lease, whilst spasmodic, seems to be worsening.

I was really looking forward to GW:EN but if this persist I may have to think again on spending more money on a game I can not play 100% of the time.

On a side note, please do not have any more weekend events whilst this lag issue continues, for many it’s a complete waste of time.
While I can understand you being upset by the lag (I've experienced it too, tonight is the first night it is back to "normal"), you show little understanding of the software industry in this case.

Why would ANET which is full of programmers, graphics designers and lvl editors postpone all their work because of a network glitch? I think it has been stated quite clearly on these forums several times that the lag issue is due to a router upgrade that one provider in Germany did that caused all sorts of problems. ANET is working with their vendors on the issue, but it is out of their hands for the near term. I'm sure that they will learn a lesson from it and put some safeguards in place longer term, but that is out of the hands of 99% of the people within their employ.

Let's say that ANET does pull all their people off the projects they are working on to focus solely on the lag issue... What in the heck would a graphics designer be able to do to resolve the problem? A majority of software programmers would be useless as well, since we are talking about a router upgrade that went bad (which is a very specified field, not something that many programmers know except for the basics)...

Yeah, the lag issue sucks, and ANET needs to get it resolved. But let's not be stupid about it.

I don't get lag, so like hell I want it delayed for people i don't even know just so they can enjoy it. No-one on my friends list or in my guild experiences this lag, so it obviously isn't as rampant as you make it seem.

Delay GW:EN? GO RED ENGINE no!
Do everything in their power to fix the issue before the release? Natch.

I don't think weekend events are having any serious impact on that though, these simple 'Bonus X' events can't be that time consuming to set up.

I wish people would quit posting this falsehood.

GW has SOLD 3.5 million UNITS, including all chapters and PvP unlock packs. Since most people have all three chapters, the player base is probably, at maximum, a bit over a million people.

Now consider how many people are actually playing, and I would guesstimate between 500,000 and 800,000 actual people playing the game, somewhere between 50,000 and 200,000 online at any time based on district counts worldwide.

WoW does not have 8.5 million active players; GW does not have 3.5 million active players. Those are marketing numbers designed for press releases. Reality is much more modest.

If I remember correctly, those numbers were for a single campaign's sales. So therefore there are likely around 2 million people playing (many people have more than 1 account).

After posting this thread I logged back on and noticed that no one was online, except me naturally, in our guild, (80+ members). Check friends list, no one on line. Checked on alliance chat and no answer, (7 in alliance).

Saturday night in our guild/alliance is usually very busy.

Anet whilst recognising the problem does not seem overly concerned judging from some of the posts on the forums I’ve read from players who have contacted them, and still seem to be unaware of the true extent.

No, that # reflects sales of all GW chapters. Read the NCSoft quarterly reports, and you'll see that these numbers reflect sales of individual packages/boxes/chapters.

People own more than one chapter, and you know that many people have multiple accounts, and that a significant number of people have moved on to others games.

I havent had bad lag until today during konodur crossroads , it was terrible , It was like a turn based RTS the way I was playing and it happened half way through , so I decided to keep going and I got to the end (took about 20 minutes with the lag) and it lagged so hard my party just got wiped out , so thanks anet for wasting 20 minutes of my time , you owe me it .

Lagg is bad enough of an issue if it's not fixed I wouldn't purchase GWEN .... why buy something that's not even playable at the moment ?

Is it possible to just transfer territories to make the lag go away, and come back later once the lag is gone?

Just got done getting master's in the Ruins of Morah...I started last night at Rilhon Refuge....

did not experience lag at all...

a couple weeks ago I had lag issues for one day...but those got resolved pretty quickly.

should they delay it? Absolutely not...like has been said many times...why delay it for everyone just because a portion of the community is experiencing horrendous lag? and like has been said many times...voice your displeasure by not buying the product. simple as that.

As for the weekend events...they're weekend events...probably take all of 5 minutes to setup...and are not that significant...again why should we (those who are not experiencing lag) have to suffer (lack of a weekend event that would otherwise be made available) because you are experiencing lag. If anyone is being selfish it's you.

If I were experiencing lag and it was an Anet issue I would spend more time bitching at them rather than complaining that an expansion should be delayed and weekend events should be cancelled.

I agree that they should fix how smooth the game runs, but I'm afraid I'm simply not willing to wait any longer for GWEN. I'd rather put up with the lag than wait any longer...

Delayed because of lag , no way. Delayed because of other reasons, well that would make more sense but that is not happening either. Interesting question though, what are people going to do when they finish up the GW:EN expansion ?

I seriously think it would be kind of unfair to the people who aren't having lag issues. I know if I was I would want it to still be released... But that's just me lol.
