the best ideas are the stupid ones.

like jumping, triple sized shoulder pads, weapons that are bigger than you @_@

you know it sounds stupid, but you know its true.

View this trailer, then compare it to the GW:EN trailer... Does it not look like the new Wow game looks very similar? Anet was first blizzard, back off ;D
Aah that looks like itl be a great expansion!

But seriously people, stop the paranoia and WoW fearing. These two have nothing in common and its time to cease construction of a Guild Wars church and see things less biased imo.

On the expansion, im a little worried about the Deathknight class, but im sure itl be good enough

jumping is so great it seems dumb at first but then when you realize the exploration potential.... wow. guild wars seems so restrictive when returning to it from another MMO.

Quit bashing the games. They both have their ups and their downs. If you do/don't want to pay monthly...then DON'T! In terms of this lich king stuff...WoW has had it in the Warcraft lore and don't forget that Arenanet was founded by people who used to work for Blizzard.

And what's that supposed to show?
Because I don't think popularity = quality. The same goes for games sold- that would mean that The Sims 1 and 2 are the best games on pc EVAH!

Yeah, amount of players doesn't prove anything. Every ones heard of Command and Conquer 3, personally I think the game is absolute rehash with better graphics. It doesn't even deserve to be called an RTS, but its still sold thousands of copies. The same with the upcoming Starcraft 2, it looks like the same basic mechanics, nothing innovative, nothing break taking. Now take a look at something like Dawn of War: 40,000, or Company of Heroes, two RTS's that aren't very popular but are incredibly innovative and scored amazingly with most video game critics.

er, i said "in that respect", which was supposed to mean "not-having-to-pay-to-play wins over having to pay-to-pay"

I think the amount of copies sold doesn't really prove anything, because what if the game sucks?

However, the figure with 9 million for WoW is that it's not 9 million copies sold, but 9 million active accounts - meaning, that's how many people are playing. And I think that shows something.

Depends on your pov. I'd LOVE to pay for a monthly fee for Guild Wars, because not only would it grant more content, it would give the game some GMs so we could ban all those immature, rude and racist bastards.

You can say the same about most games. WoW had nothing new either.. it's all permutations of the same genre.

That is a matter of opinion and based on circumstance.

The only thing I have to say about the latest WoW expansion being similar to the latest GW expansion is this...

If Pyre Fierceshot dances like a Tauren doing the Electric Slide, I'm going to quit.

It's command and conquer. Anything more than a rehash would be more dangerous to sales - not to mention it's what most command and conquer fans wanted. Good old CnC with an updated engine. Personally, I found it rather fun. And on what grounds do you say it's not an RTS? It follows the tried and true RTS formula that Dune 2 and CnC created - and most RTS's followed.

Same with Starcraft 2. If they did anything more than a rehash with an updated engine and some new mechanics, if it didn't turn out well, there would be a riot. Seriously, a riot.

Well, Relic also made Homeworld which is the single best RTS, ever. They seem to be the only ones that manage to make a 'different' style RTS and make it work. But that doesn't make other RTS's that follow the age old RTS formula any less fun to play. Sometimes it's good to go back and spam some tanks for a while.

OMG, 2 RPG expansions have their players exploring forgotten lands, seeing new wonders, and fighting long forgotten terrors!

Yeah, while we're on this "WoW ripped off GW" business I'd like to point out some other franchises which have ripped off Guild Wars.
-Lord of the Rings
-The Matrix
-Harry Potter
-Lion King
-Tron

All of the guys behind those franchises need to fess up with some royalties to ANet fast otherwise they're going to facing massive lawsuits.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the Cinderella/Nightfall parallels, god! Makes me sooooo mad!

pov??? circumstance??? blimey.

im not talking about the quality of free games vs p2p.

im just saying in ONE aspect, wow loses to gw, and that aspect is that gw is f2p whilst wow is p2p.

come on. u cant twist that. @_@

thats where WoW really shines is balancing. they have panels of people that decide on changes, instead of just having one guy watch a few pvp matches and nerf everything that is used to decent effect. No offense Izzy, but one person can't properly balance a game of this nature. It just makes it worse and worse.
I take it that was meant to be a joke? Even the most dedicated WoW fans I know (which would be quite a few, I've played the game for a while after all) would readily admit that WoW is unbalanced beyond repair. The method Blizzard utilizes to 'balance' WoW is beyond a shadow of a doubt the worst I (or my WoW-playing/loving friends for that matter) have ever seen.

You're forgetting about Massive Entertainment. If anything their Ground Control games laid the framework for games like Dawn of War - and they were also thoroughly well-executed and well-received games. Their soon-to-be-released RTS World in Conflict also looks to break some new ground, this time in terms of multiplayer gameplay.

You could also argue for Liquid Entertainment's Battle Realms, which might have been a fantasy RTS, but introduced a lot of cool new gameplay elements such as genuine troop training, replenishable resources, height difference that actually mattered, interactive environments (creating a forest fire to smoke out the enemy, rolling boulders from hills on top of enemy troops, fleeing birds revealing your location when running through forests), multiple standard attacks per unit (as well as animations), incentive to attack, multiple paths through the singleplayer campaign on either side, etc. Granted, the following game by Liquid Entertainment was as generic as a RTS could be.

hahahahaahahahaaha, this post made me laugh so hard I fell on my ass...

how and where did any of them rip off guild wars? thats a total joke

Guild Wars is a free to play, multiplayer online action adventure, and is sat squarely between your average console game and true MMO's...

This whole thread, like other WoW vs. GW Vs. etc... is a joke

/close please
