To be honest its like the wors lie there couse my Char from Factions Ran through nightfall without completing 80% of quest needed for SS and got till lvl 7 at the end im not shure its either somehow you did less missions and story than me or its really poor way to get your point supported

looking forward to EOtN, and will most liek use the online store.

However, GW2-- not quite sold on yet. Im worried the game will become too much like WoW, which I did not find to be enjoyable.

First, I'm buying GW:EN and I'm not really here to see who is or is not or the reasons in which they choose not to. I'm really here to address one thing about the franchise and it's issue with this release.

I think GW reached it's pinnacle not to long ago and it's operating cost compared to income ratio is going to hurt the players and the game fairly soon. I feel we will be seeing a good deal more technical troubles with this release. I know that lag issues in competitive play has taken a nice hit in population and gw is in it's final moments (meaning this last release, not the end of anet) is really focused on the pve players. I'm not a big pvper, but i do know thats were the money really is overall.

So in buying this expansion there is a bit of hope that anet can (or has the ability to) hold it together or face mass exodus during a great deal of strain on the already taxed servers. There comes a time in any system where a failure point is reached and anet might just be at it's limit. A good example is the *missing* stuff when Nightfall released and the many issues during those trying first few weeks... all the way to now, with the lag, downed servers and lost data.

This is not by any means a flame post about GW's. It has been/still is one of the best games I have played since the advent of the home pc. But it is still up in the air if I get GWEN or not. I really enjoy playing the game but alot of the things that made the game are old and boring, and I dont think I can take another 6-12 months of the same old type missions and title grinding while I wait for GW2. I have 6 chars that have made it through all 3 campaigns. All have either fow or 15k armour. All my heros have green or rare weapons and I have storage toons full of rare and green weapons that you cant give away or sale because management has made them all common and worthless. I dont blame Anet for the previous, they have an impossible task of keeping people interested in the game between episodes. And they do a good job of it, but this person needs a break from it for a while. Im sure one of the guys in the guild will eventually talk me into getting it, but it wont be for several months. I am looking forward to GW2 in the sense that It will be fun again to start with nothing and build up everything again, but there is only so much armor and weapons and experience, greens, golds, runes, ectos, dyes................................. you can get before it no longer is fun to go get more.

I'm having a hard time talking myself into ordering it. 80% of my guild have quit the game (won't be getting EN) and I'm barely playing any more. Why spend $50 for something I'll barely play? I don't have the energy nor the will to start over with a new guild and PvE on this game engine got boring for me a long time ago. $50 is a lot for a pure expansion. So yeah, unless I get very bored or some guildies regain interest in the game, I'll probably skip this one and keep an eye out for GW2.

Isn't it $39.95 (or something close to that), tho?

Not in Canada, apparently

I'd double check at the GW store, but for some reason they want you to pre-order the thing without listing the final price.

Reasons why I am leaning against buying it:

1) the biggest, My son is due to be born at the end of October so my gaming days are severely numbered (according to my wife). She will probably kill me if she finds out I buy it.

2) I really want to get Bioshock cause it looks just plain freaking awesome.

3) I have not been playing much GW as of late. Been on a Dungeon Runners kick. Mindless click and kill fun a la Diablo style. I just got bored/burned out on GW cause I was just playing it too much.

4) did I mention my wife wants to kill me for playing computer games?

5) My guild has dwindled down to me and one other guy so I have to rely on Pug's or Heros henches for my gaming time.

Reasons why I want to buy it:

1) I was there when Prophecies was released so I want to be there at the "end" of Guild Wars. Its been a fun run and would hate to miss out on the end.

2) I seriously doubt I will buy GW2 because I will be well into fatherhood at that time and my time will be spent being a dad to my little boy instead. So again, GW:EN will be like my last "hoorah" of gaming.

3) I am excited to explore new areas and find new stuff. I don't really care about there being more heroes and titles, just the whole adventuring into new territory aspect of it. That is what I really loved about GW, finding new, interesting hidden away areas and always wondering what was around the next corner.

I like Factions and Nightfall and all but I think Anet could have done much better by making expansions instead of new chapters. There is so much more they could do within Tyria, and Cantha for that matter, it just feels "incomplete" sometimes...i dunno.

Nice read. Sums up a lot of players' feelings that I've come across - a lot of my own as well.

At this point I haven't pre-ordered EotN and I have no intention of purchasing it, for the simple reason that I don't believe I would get my money's worth from it.

Well, it's not quite that simple. To break it down further, Anet has slowly changed the direction of GW over time, to the point of almost abandoning the competitive PvP experience that originally brought me to this game from WoW. All that seems to be left is a shallow PvE game, where the "content" is a list of bars to fill, titles to show and money to earn and spend. As Zinger points out, if I wanted to grind bars, I'd go back to WoW. At least when I fill up a reputation bar there I can buy gear upgrades for my character. But going on an assumption for a second, that's probably what they'll do with EotN.

This isn't surprising really, when you step back and look at most of GW's current playerbase. Instead of the competitive, PvP-orienteered playerbase it promised, it's now a game basically fuelled by people who would probably play WoW if it had no monthly fee (even if they sincerely claim they wouldn't). When people look to EotN as a bridge to GW2, I don't disagree but it's exactly that reason that I'm not buying it. From the info they've released on EotN and GW2, coupled with the game's direction over the last year (or more), it seems that Anet is most definitely pushing for WoW Lite (ala WoW with no monthly fee). And I already played the real deal, so no thanks.

As some people may be aware, there's a great new PvP game slated for release in early October: Fury. With a total focus on fast-paced, MMORPG-meets-FPS style combat and a pre-release competition with over $1000000 worth of prizes (Fury Challenge), Fury has already drawn a big chunk of GW's competitive PvP community to it's alpha and beta testing.

I walked into EB a few days ago and saw the EotN poster at the counter. I then took $10 out of my wallet and pre-ordered Fury.

Edit: In before "why do you read forums and post for a game you don't play". Well, correcting your assumption, I do still play GW, albeit rarely. My girlfriend started playing a short time ago (her first foray into the both gaming and online gaming at the same time), so when both of us have some spare some I work through Prophecies with her. If she eventually finds more time and plays through all the chapters and somehow becomes a GW nut, I may purchase EotN. But I asssume it'll be at least be on the throw-out table with a "50% off" sticker at EB by then.
