First time I met them I was actually ambushed by a group. Instant death. I became wary of them since then, and had no trouble dealing with them (using an dominatrix gwen, btw). And yes, the Jorun (or whatever they're named) giants seem a lot harder, imo. If you're not ultra-careful, the dirty beasts go straight for the monks, fell them in two hits, and then your group is in big trouble.

After reading this thread, I had to go and try these fearsome Chromatic Drakes for myself. So as not to taint the test, I took the team I have been using for general PvE in EotN.

Beguiling Haze + Gwen + Norgu = gg drakes. We took some heavy damage but no deaths. FWIW, I'm running the BH assassin, Gwen is running inspiration-based interrupt/hex removal (3 interrupts), Norgu is general E-surge domination (3 interrupts) and Olias is an MM with 2 interrupts. Filled out the team with Mhenlo, Lina, Talon, and Herta. Even the drakes I don't daze get spell after spell interrupted. If I see a drake get off Sliver Armor, I switch targets. The henchies are smart enough to run out of the firestorms and whatnot. Dark Apostasy is another good choice of elite for an assassin when facing powerful enchantments like Sliver Armor.

This isn't the team build I used for Factions, or Nightfall, or any previous campaign. It's already been mentioned that it doesn't mean the monsters are overpowered if you can't just take out your favorite pre-existing team build and steamroll everything. That would be boring. Change it up for once, you might find something else that works well.

Quoted for truth. I was running Zhed, Sousuke and Vekk all with SF and the destroyers just got pwned like everything else. Not sure why, really

SS + Empathy + Barbs + Soul Barbs + Desecrate Enchantments + Mark of Pain + Rez

Swapping out Soul Barbs for Atrophy works just as well (my new favorite skill)

This ownz all.

I actually quite like them, the element-changing thing is fairly interesting.

Best advice? Either kill 'em fast with mass AoE, or use a lot of Protection Prayers.
The drakes are pretty powerful, but I use shelter and that keeps 'em from killing me right off. They aren't overly hard compared to the Jotun! Those things are mean, and look mean too, but even they aren't uber-hard.

The Jotun are peasy, just make sure you wipe the Mesmer out first.

Anyone noticed a lack of monks enemies?

Just add interrupts to your bar. Not hard. I play BA ranger in pve and chromatic drakes are easy-fry.

When I first got into GWEN, yea the drakes were WTFOMG 1337, now it's, meh.

Who still gives me trouble...
The Avalances and the Shattered Elementals.

Even the dungeon in Raven's Point with level 28 destroyers at the end didn't give me near as much trouble as the Shattered and/or Avalances.

That and the fact deep freeze is an insta hit AoE spike damage goodness.

Uber skilled H/H doing their thing and staying bunched up.
Always fun to watch ...

They're a nuisance but I wouldn't say overpowered. Searing Flames tears them apart.

Off topic: Anyone noticed they drop chromatic scales? Anet must have some musicians. =D

They are cheap.
Really cheap.
Whenerver I see a bucnh of them, I go kill them.

The only thing that must be fixed id their skillbarr.
Once they use the element change they can use it again right away. And they seem to renew energy and keep their enchantments.

That should be fixed so they are not a pain in hard mode.

I find it quite easy to kill them all, using Olias as an MM, although my and a friend went in Frostmaw's and he was complaining about being spiked by Sliver, but the monks were keeping him alive, so idk. But they are easy, just be smart.

Once more.... I hear people complaining about the Jotuns.... and yet everyone in unison claiming the Chromatics are easy.

Ok.... so I've figured that I personally shouldn't go near them.
I have also figured that my hero-build is focused on clever-arse offensive techniques with very little defence... which for the record is pretty much what the Chromatics are doing too. It becomes a game of who kills who else first. Maybe I could bring some Interrupts or... dare I even suggest it... switch out Zhed (Searing Flames happytime) for Morgahn (though I have only the most basic Paragon skills unlocked at all).

In any case....
The Chromatics I'm not too fond of because I... as an Assassin... cannot personally charge in and wail on them. If I could get to them without being slowed down and knocked down then MAYBE I could kill them before one of them considered putting up Sliver Armour.... but even that is too much. I just have to stand back and rely on the rest of my party to deal with them... and that I don't appreciate so much.

And the Jotuns?

Nothing to complain about.
I can solo-kill groups of them.
I all but soloed a Jotun boss yesterday (he got lucky at barely a slither of health left).

Indeed, I have completely changed my build for GW:En and now pretty much all the foes die with ease. The only foes that really bug me are the Destroyers.. I mean how much damn elemental defense can you have??
119dmg spell becomes 20 or 40, I forget

This guy is the biggest n00b in GW history. Every enemy in EotN, so far, has been easily dispatched by any character I have... with any heroes I bring. LMAO! Glad I got to read this and post before the mods closed it. LOL
