To the OP: I understand that you're frustrated, but perhaps you should focus on a single character, enjoy all the campaign content and, duly have access to EotN content, before moving on to another character.

With such little time on your hands one or two characters is all that is really needed for maximum game enjoyment.

To the OP: I can understand how you can have a non-max level character after all this time. After all, you've described a very hectic work schedule, and GW isn't high on your list of "must-do" things in life, i.e. go hardcore and .

Kind of sucks how you overlooked the requirement for a character to be level 20, and empathize with your being frustrated that you can't participate in this Sneak Peek Weekend. I guess this is exacerbated by local and alliance chat filled with wondrous tales of the sights and sounds of the Far Shiverpeaks. /turns alliance and guild chat off... But hey, we're all only human, we can miss reading some stuff

If you really want to participate this weekend, you can have your kids help you do the quests in Kaineng Center, there are lots there that give 1,500 to 3,000 exp as quest rewards. May take a couple of hours but you might be max level by that time, albeit lacking 30 attributes if you're a Tyrian character and just want to access GWEN.

But when all is said and done, this is just the preview. The game comes out in a week anyway.

I myself am not getting worked up missing out on the preview event as I've been asked to report for work today (Saturday) and maybe tomorrow too. I got my three-hour taste last night, and look forward to next week

Well in his defense he odds are did not know GWEN was high level. He may have thought it was just another expansion. Not everyone stays super active with the news. Hell a few of my guildies today were asking why they could not get into GWEN and it turned out no preorders.

...why would you spend a truckload of money on a game you don't play? It takes maybe an hour or two to hit level 14, and a couple more to hit 20.

Wait... u buy 3x Props, 2x Factions, 2x NF, 1 preorder Gwen. Then you buy each campaign another time for purposes still unclear to me. But still, you fail to get a lvl 20 character in the game? Nothing personal, but since when does buying a game make you a dedicated gamer of that game.

Go into the desert and ascend. that will get you to lev 20 fast. peope offer runs there all the time... it only takes a little over an 2 hours to get a character up to level 20 that way. if you go NF or Cantha route you can do it in a day I would say, of nothing but playing the missions. THATS IT no side quests. Primaries and missions only on 1 character... Be at lev 20 in no time flat... Then you will have 2 days to play in GW:EN preview with that character...

Go over to Factions quickly, do all of the quests around the Kaineng center and you'll be level 20 in no time. Sucks that you've missed out on this, but like has been said.. they made it very clear from the begining that this is for level 20's.

Sorry you got jacked, that would be quite frustrating from your situation I bet. If you read this in time I should be able to help you get to level 20 in only a couple hours. PM me here at the board with your ingame name if you'd like help and I'll try to remember to check back here and message you in game.

*edit* Lots of good advice and offers for help above my post I see. My offer still stands as well if you want to PM me.

Thanks everyone for your offers of help and after an hour or so of sleep I'll take a few of you up on it.

Just to clarify something at over fifty I'm not ignorant a little nieve maybe but ignorant is just being rude. And when I started playing games and even first reading on the back of the first prophecies box I bought it stated it could only be put on one system other systems needed their own copies hence buying what I did as I have 2 desktops(my primary & a spare when my kids visit) and my laptop. I only found through talking to a tech on the phone yesterday that GW is not like most other games so I spent some money no big deal. Also at one time over a year ago I had some free time to play while away so had to buy an extra copy anyway for my laptop and then couldn't remember the password from my first pre-order and really wanted to play so started the 2nd account.

Now after talking to the tech guy I know a little more.

And yes in the security feild I'm in after 12 hours of work and 2 hours of traveling and living out of a suitcase in hotel rooms when you guys get to be my age I hope you can cope as well as I and my family do when I'm away for 3 and 4 months at a time. Remember I also have to add in staff briefings and sleep in the rest of the day as well so when working away from home not much time for much else but making sure my own site's server is looked after so GW is reserved for times like this weekend and if I'm lucky a few days at the begining of the week where I can get in some time playing for a bit.

And Oofus maybe if I worked 9 - 5 like you did I would have a character like your too but I don't work bankers hours and I'm very rarely home to enjoy the hours of play you get to enjoy. On top of working away from home I still have wifely things like housework, cooking, laundry and all the other things that men as babies say they don't know how or refuse to do for themselves when I'm home as well so with you having bankers hours you have the extra hours that I don't hence the 2.5 years it has taken me to get to the point I'm at now.

Give your wife a holiday and go to work for your 8 hours then come home and cook and clean and do the laundry and make sure your teenager has homework done and medical appointsments looked after and see how much time is left for gaming before you go to bed bud and then you'll taste my life but just remember my days are 4 hours longer then yours not counting briefings and travel time and I'm 20 nyears older then you.

I'd really like to see you do all that 20 years from now. I'm unbelievable. No I'm a worker.

Sorry, but if you're rarely home and rarely have time to play, a MMORPG really isn't for you. I'm not saying stop playing, I'm just saying that MMORPGs take free time to play, which apparently you don't have.

You have to understand you have to dedicate time to play these games, and you have to realize that the companies are trying their best to please the actual gamers, not the people who occasionally play.

I do understand where you're coming from, and I think even though they stated very clearly that this was an expansion exclusively for level 20 characters, they might have also added a note saying a level 20 character was required for play. Because people might think that while the content of the game is geared towards level 20's, you could still go in with your level 14 and at least take a look, even if you'd end up a pile of goo not long after.

Perhaps they could have given people with an extra character slot the option of creating a level 20 character for the preview weekend? As I recall, in beta weekends of the past they were able to make it that way, to test higher level skills out, so it doesn't seem like it would have been so difficult to do here. Then, after the weekend, the character reverts back to level 1. The only problem I could forsee is that unlike those weekends, where equipment/skills went away, in this one we actually keep what we earn. I think it would be unfair to all of us who have gotten our characters to level 20 if those who hadn't got the same benefits as we did. Perhaps if they could have worked it that characters made for that weekend event lost their stuff? But that seems like a lot of work.

That said, it was pretty clear to me that this was meant for level 20's, and I spent about 5 hours leveling up three more of my characters so that I could bring them into this. With Nightfall it's not really that difficult. It seems to me that if you'd read what GW:EN was all about, you'd have realized you'd need to do the same. Instead of spending time creating a bunch of low level characters you could have taken those few hours and leveled that level 14 you have instead, and then there wouldn't be a problem.

The OP purchased the preorder for GW:EN because he believed that he would be able to play the game during the pre-release weekend. The replies commenting/ criticising his gaming habits were quite redundant. While I agree that, for a level 14 character, the three campaigns offer an insane amount of content waiting to be explored, I’m not in the position to criticise a person for still wanting to buy the latest add-on, and you surely won’t hear Anet saying “don’t buy our addons until you’ve completed the other campaigns”.

The OP was ignorant to the fact that the expansion required level 20 characters – and frankly, there are quite a few sources out there that can mislead you. Here’s an example: if you go to Amazon and read through the game description, there is absolutely no word about the necessity of having a level 20 character to play GW:EN. Furthermore, here’s what they wrote regarding the pre-release:

Quote:

* Three exclusive weapons for you or any Heroes you may meet during your adventures in the Eye of the North expansion—the Glacial Blade, the Hourglass Staff, and the Darksteel Longbow.

* Trilogy Trial: Access to all three Guild Wars games—Guild Wars, Guild Wars Factions, and Guild Wars Nightfall for 10 hours or 14 days, whichever comes first.
Now if I had characters below level 20 and ordered the game based on Amazon’s description, I would have been just as disappointed as the OP. I would not have gotten what I was promised – though it would have been Amazon’s fault, not Anet’s.

To everyone who thought they had a reason to roll their eyes at another person's "n00bishness" while reading the OP’s post: give a person the benefit of a doubt before you label him/her an idiot.
Besides, not everyone has as much time on their hands to play this game up to the point where they’re experts, and not everyone is so familiar with the campaigns that they know how to level their characters up as quickly as possible (which certainly isn’t the most enjoyable way of playing through a campaign for the first time anyway).

Oh, and by the way: someone on this thread mentioned that they can get their NF character to level 20 in three hours. Care to post a detailed walkthrough on that? I’m quite intrigued (for various reasons).
