Angry Casual Player Hate and Grind FTW

With so many posts around moaning about titles needing work, and armor only be available for a those that have certain titles, and silly numbers of collectibles I just wanted to say one thing.

There should be a reward for those that put in time and effort.

If you don't want to work for something, then you're not going to get it. Live with it.

Nope. This way he gets his five minutes of fame and gets to act sagatious in the process. It's a win/win/chokequietly situation.

Well Darkobra almost got it right. I'll admit there is a bit of that it in. Its just that looking at the topic list for this forum there is almost nothing but ANet bashing.

I like EOTN I'll admit. I think ANet did a good job on it, and I like the way they're not just handing everything to the 5 hours a week guys.

You could say the same for the others too, considering the 10 different threads about "EOTN disappointment" "EOTN sucks" "Reskin Armors" "EOTN not worth it" "EOTN title grind", don't you think they could all just post it in one thread? Guess not.

If there was a sticky on it, people could be redirected there. I think there's one about the HoM, which is people's main concern.

Then again, people could take at most 1 minute and check the threads instead of constnatly making new threads. HoM isn't the biggest problem, now people are having issues with grind and armors.

The grind isn't even that much, to be honest. I mean the game's been out for less than a week. You're not gonna INSTANTLY be rank 5.

And I agree, it's not hard to check other threads and see the other 30-40 parrots chirping in your ear.

totally agreed. And i'm soon going to be a 5 hour a week guy again. I don't mind not getting everything right away. hell if i did i know i'd probably get bored with GW fairly quickly. I know one huge reason i didn't put GW down all summer is because i fell inot the habit of exploring one area each day until i got Grandmaster Cartographer

I would prefer if more exclusivity came from accomplishing particularly difficult tasks or quests, rather than just requiring a large time investment.

Still, I'm not too concerned, I like the armor I already had from Factions, so I'm just doing the challenging quests and dungeons for the fun of it. I don't plan to make any special effort to advance in the titles.

I thought the game was to play not work. Please correct me if I am wrong in this. If I am working, who is paying me for it? I didn't buy any of the Guild Wars games to work.

As for time and effort for EON, it is not worth the time by any means and def not worth the effort as you put it. You will see me in the other games with a belief that I wasted my money on the expansion. It was terrible othe then the graphics.

For instant gratifications, guild wars may not be right for you, especially PvE. Most RPG games operate this way, via acquiring weapons and upgrades via exploration, monster killing and puzzle solving.... so minus the puzzle solving, you get guild wars.

For most people it's play, but even for casual players stuck in a tunnel vision, focused on the treasure chest at the end of the tunnel, they'll wind up treading through hours of play that becomes a grind fest.

When playing stops becoming fun, then it becomes work. You can help avoid this by "please take a break." when you feel something is repetitive.

Actually Guild Wars is for me, love it. Prophecies, Factions with the A/B and Nightfall is a blast. Love all of it. Just don't like EON at all. To WOW like for my blood. Reminds me of past games that I have played.

If people are complaining about having to grind to lvl 5 of these titles then they are lazy. The titles are easy to lvl 5. Try getting past 5 and see what grinding is.
Other than too much reskin, Anet has done a good job with GW:EN. Face it people just love to complain. Nothing Anet does will ever make EVERYONE happy, so why try.

Anything to cut down on casual gamers is a step in the right direction.

These things aren't supposed to just be picked up, toyed with for 5 minutes and put down. If a game can't keep me occupied in one way or another for several months at least then it isn't long enough and simply doesn't have enough content. And yes... that means several months of at least 5 hours a day, and more if I can fit it in.

Ever since S*ny stepped into the console business, game quality has been going downhill in favour of mass-producing half-arsed crap to satisfy the "casual gamers"... It is downright sickening. The 32-bit era was the waning of gaming as I knew it, as the 128-bit era was the final death...
PC gaming has just been dragged along for the ride.

No; the socially-dependant egoites who seem to think gaming should revolve around them when they can't even take the time to appreciate it.
We're all alive here, thank you very much.

I agree with OP, it's sickening how they downscale difficulty and effort put in games to satisfy those 'casual gamers', which are loud-mouthed spoiled teenagers with an insatiable gimme-gimme-gimme attitude most of the time. They do not want to spend any time, skill or effort on things they want, they just want it all and want it now, for free. Giving in to these people only ruins the game as everyone will end up with FOW armor in less then a week and people will then quit the game because there's nothing to do. And if more content is added, they will just whine whine whine until they get it for free too.

EDIT: And it's disgusting how those whiners now call everything which requires effort 'grind'. "Oh no I have to GRIND to rank 5". You don't have to grind for rank 5, you can do all quests to get rank 5 and clear each area once while you explore, so you're not doing anything over and over, so IT IS NOT GRIND. Get off your butt and start doing something, lazy monkeys.

Downscale difficulty?
Lack of in-depth content concerns me... not lack of difficulty.
The mark of a true gamer is in attitude; not aptitude.

And if anything, Guild Wars has just been made continually more difficult since the beginning to cater to people who have no interest in the game besides demanding challenge... All effort at plotline has waned out in favour of just putting in tougher enemies and more of them. THAT is the result of casual gaming. The casual gamer doesn't want to think about things; they just want a temporary adrenaline rush.

I'd rather have 12 months of Shing Jea than 3 months of Urgoz's Warren... personally.
