I don't think it's that bad really, heck GW has been boring to me for a long time. GWEN just gave it a bit back, I actually liked the dungeons. I will be bored within the next 2 weeks though for sure.

I dislike the armor, all of it. Why in the smokes did they have to reskin old armor? Why couldn't they make new good looking armor, I got some Silver Eagle armor and it's horrible..but I have to pretend to like it so my money wasn't spent in vain.

Chest drops are crap, most other drops are crap as well. Best loot comes out of dungeon chests. Otherwise it's really rare, more than usual I think..but maybe not..I suppose I've been getting about average.

Money for quest rewards was upped, that's cool. I dislike the fact that they dropped the amount of points you get from redoing a dungeon though. 25-40% of the original amount of points you got, would have been good. Not just a measly 100-200 pts. That's utter BS.

Also we should be able to put up any weapon we want of ours in the HoM, as it's ours to show off.

So other than a few things being underpowered (most of the PvE skills (20 damage isn't good against things with 500-1200 health, it says 40 but it's not armor ignoring damage) and drops sucking majorly, GWEN isn't all that bad. I wish it was a bit cheaper though. $20 would have been good.

GWEN though... I was really, really disappointed. This expansion was suppose to be the epic finale. A service to Anet's loyal customers who have been with them the last two years. Instead I get the feeling that they really weren't trying and just wanted to throw something at us to keep us distracted for the next two years while they work on Guild Wars 2.

Let's do a recap of what past addons to Guild Wars offered.

Factions

Pros
- Added Alliance Battles (perfect way to incorporate people who enjoy PvE and PVP)
- Two new professions
- Arguably the best looking armor the game has ever seen
- Streamlined the game more so getting a level 20 character in PvE didn't take days and/or weeks to achieve
- Lots of new skills and elites useable in both PvE and PvP
- Upgraded the way armor worked to allow whatever bonuses people wanted with whatever armor they chose

Cons
- Short storyline
- Timed missions

Nightfall

Pros
- Added heroes (giving players the option to create their own builds for henchmen and give us some control over them)
- Even more new skills and elites for PvE and PvP
- New armor and the inclusion of runes and insignias
- Added the ability to mod inscriptions on weapons
- Two new professions
- Reverted back to Prophecies style missions where they had more of a bonus feel to them rather than it all being timed
- Hero Battles

Cons
- Added heroes (taking away the need to ever really need player interaction)
- Added bits of grind (Sunspear and Lightbringer titles)

GW:EN

Pros
- New heroes (among them giving us the first look at the new races)
- Hall of Monuments
- New graphic effects (though can only say I've noticed it in the burning forest area in the Charr homelands)
- New standalone armor pieces
- New PvE only skills

Cons
- Short story, shorter than Factions
- Poor reskins of old armor
- No new professions
- Only 10 new PvE and PvP friendly skills per profession
- No new elites
- Uninspired dungeons, outside of the boss at the end of the dungeons have nothing new to offer and in fact feel like they're just there to waste our time
- Forced grinding of titles in order to utilize NPC services
- New standalone armor pieces have nothing that really goes with them
- New PvE only skills require grinding in order for them to be remotely useful
- No new forms of PvP

At the end of the day, GWEN is far too underwhelming and not worth half the price that is asked for. Every other addon to the Guild Wars world felt like a nice step forward, GWEN took it a few steps back and didn't offer the same amount of content we've come to expect out of Anet.

Take it for what you will but the only huge thing I can see that GWEN was suppose to present was the dungeons to give the game more end game content but the content within them just doesn't seem like enough.

They originally made the dungeons sound good and that there would be a lot of interaction within these dungeons but it's really just another bland boring dungeon grind like so many console RPGs out there. Kill mob X for key, unlock door, fight boss within the dungeon. Though the boss fights are pretty unique the frst few times you do it.

GWEN has nothing to offer the PvP player either. As my roommate pointed out it's pointless for him to even buy the expansion because of the lack of any new skills or fun new ways to PvP.

It's my belief that instead of being a service to us for being such loyal customers to Anet since the launch of Guild Wars it's really just a disservice for presenting us with quite possibly the worst addon ever. Instead of getting the epic finale I was hoping for I get content that already is wearing out its welcome.

Good points - and of course dont forget the ultimate farming nerf of all time in GWEn - the monument of valor in the HOM where of all the weapons in the gw series, you can take only 1 new gwen skin (thats kinda fugly) to gw2, the rest are dead for the future and will die with gw 1.

To those complaining about this thread author posting here and not somewhere else - TONS of people are feeling cheated left and right for many reasons, we can't have enough threads. The more we have, hopefully ANet will try to salvage some of this disaster instead of pissing of and pushing away those who have been committed to the GW series for so long.

if gwen gave 2 more slots i would have approved of gwen, but they didnt. They did not even increase our storage if we owned all 3 campaigns.

Overpriced and underdelivered

If I did have a complaint about GWEN, it would be the price. The content and the game itself is exactly what I expected: Guild Wars reduxed.

What many people fail to see is the direction ANet has chosen to go with the series. Instead of giving us another Factions or Nightfall, they've admitted the flaws GW has by adding absolutely new content every 6 months, and decided to work on its revamped mechanics and content. Thus GW2. GWEN may be short, and even I won't spend nearly as much time with it as I did say Prophecies, but it leaves many many doors open for the next year or two for them to add additional content such as a Sorrow's Furnace, and bonus missions (such as the 4 you get if you purchase through the online store - not a terrible marketing concept by any means).

We've witnessed the dynamic changes they can make even midway through a new campaign (such as Tomb of Primeval Kings and Sorrows Furnace for Prophecies). I wouldn't close the door on ANet's ingenuity and willingness to listen to their fanbase just yet. I'm putting all my gold on them adding additonal dungeons, new armors (such as unique head pieces and gloves), new missions, new modes of play (such as hard mode for GWEN), and more adjustments to game options (such as Hall of Monuments and adding our perosnalized flair to it, and not just an overpriced single endgame weapon). Honestly, I don't believe ANet is going to let us sit on GWEN, all by itself as is, for the next 2 years.

They won't listen though, lol, they'll continually rant on in the dozens of different threads disappointed with GW:EN. I agree with you, because making EOTN has given ANET to stream in large free content updates. Only thing I have to complain about is the reskins...

I'm not even too upset about the reskins - some of them are elite versions of armours that should have had elite versions all along .

I'm a little dissappointed about the grind to armour - not about the requirement in the first place but at the low number of quests to do on the way. It does have one benefit, though - it spreads out the demand for materials to make the new armour with.

I <3 EotN.

Money is fine. Stand alone armor pieces rock, even if the rest are mostly reskins.

Storyline was short and sweet. I hate spending a week grinding through a campaign to have access to everything.

Dungeons are fun and challenging. There are plently of new drops to be discovered. Enemies are challenging without the introduction of the canthan elementalist theory (triple damage?). Skillbars were well thought out.

More heroes for more party ideas. I ran a hero hex pressure the other day and it was a blast and it worked!

Plus more!

The only things I don't really like are some of the rewards (too little for too much work?), such as the little journal-tome thingies for the heroes and dungeons.

Edit:
All I ever see on here are negative, moan-complain-whine threads. It's 40$ for everything you got here. If you were paying 100$ for the thing, then you may have a leg to stand on. I still wonder how they sift through all this negative crap about a game they worked so hard on and still give free additions such as Sorrows Furnace (etc) to the whiners to whine more about.

I feel that most would complain if they got the game for a dollar. The least you could do is place your grievances into a constructive format by suggesting changes instead of bashing thier accomplishments.

I would be perfectly content if they kept adding new weapons and dungeons. More importantly, I would be grateful that they listen to the community and still continue to add new things. That's more than WoW and you have to pay to play that.

Indeed, your point are good.
Personally, I like GW:EN.
For me it's short, it's expensive, and a lot of things are bad designed IMHO (armor, weapons and dungeon map "recycled" :-( ).

This apart, I find that GW:EN give me something new to do. It don't replace Elona or Tyria or Cantha, but give us something to do (dungeons, individual challenge, for example).
I think that it's a good way to get relax or cut the charr's heads after build up a tyrian character.

Finally, it cost a bit so much for me, but it's funny. Unfortunately, armor's set are not so nice how a lot of people hope.

This actually upset me that people flamed this post, thanks for being completely predictable o blind followers. Heres a tip: if you blindly follow, developers wont be so inclined to try as hard. If you are already a loyal little fanboy, they know you will buy it anyway. I wouldn't go as far to say Anet doesnt care, but this kind of feedback is not a bad thing, its his opinion, and it seems many share it.

Also, to whoever flamed him on his post about heroes, if you want to play a single player game, fine, but I think it buried one of the things I enjoyed about the game. This game NEVER forced you to pug, but if you like solo play so much, then please, by all means do so, but dont be an ass to someone that plays an ONLINE game for some actual interaction.

But you and everyone else here knew before release, hell, even before the preview weekend what you WEREN'T getting...

Its more of the same, thats what i knew it would be before i bought it, and funnily enough, guess what... Its more of the same, just as I knew it would be...

Its an expansion, more of the same, with a few bells and whistles and nice touches here and there and more importantly, its my heritage link for my 5 characters to my characters in GW2!

Ahh yes, I missed that point in the Pros to GWEN. Love the new skill bars on the henchmen, they're actually pretty decent now.

I don't think I would've wanted to take the side of this post a week ago--now I do. It is getting a little old. List whatever reasons you like, but it still boils down to personal opinion. Your list of cons is valid I suppose, and some of those things are disappointing to me as well. But somehow, someway, the silent majority of players have been able to get past that and still find it fun. If you disagree, then no amount of fixing/patching/updating the game is likely to change that.
