Default Anyone else sad about GW:EN "mini-games?"

Ok, so this isn't meant to be a rant thread or anything. I think alot of stuff with GW:EN is pretty cool, while some of it still needed some work. No biggy there. But one thing that has made me sad lately is the mini-games. I remember when GW:EN was about to come out, everyone was like "Awesome, Pokemon on steroids" or "WHOA, a dwarven boxing tourney, sweet." I was definitely one of these people, I couldn't wait to play those all the time and gain reputation.

It just seems like theres really no point to them besides measly rewards for their respective affiliation. The quests were pretty sweet that were involved, like clearing the dungeon with Kilroy, or collecting Polymock pieces while defeating harder opponents. But once you're done with all of that, whats left? Hope for a Gaki polymock piece? Then what? Nothing. Or thats what it seems like to me. Whats the point in collecting rare polymock pieces when you can easily win with the ones from the quest. I think (as does im sure everyone) it would be amazing if these could be made PvP somehow, or at least give "unlocks" like after 10 polymock wins, you get something, and 100 polymock wins.

It just seems like too much of a waste of time for the programmers of these mini-games to let them die because of lack of enjoyment/incentive to play. Again, n oflames please, this is not a rant, I love alot of things with GW:EN, just think that this is a major thing that could be improved.

All I have to say is if you think you can do better, start your own gaming empire and release games. The PvP idea would be ruined by the people who don't have the uber Gaki, crying over the eliet who over use it.

and was this just a fancy way of passing off a suggestion thread in riverside inn

Polymock is one of my favorite minigames. What I am really missing is being able to play this against eachother, and put something on a bet. Say, lets play a game of polymock for 10k. Right now, asura points rewarded for beating people with tournament rules are pathetic compared to those you get by clearing area's & dungeons.
So, polymock should be more rewarding IMO.

I'd just like to add that I hate this arguement. "If you think they're doing a bad job, well, I don't see you doing any better!" That doesn't make any sense. Maybe you should do it yourself too to find out if its really that hard. You can't critisize something if you can't do it yourself? Someone has to tell Ebert and Roper.

I beat all three elemental golems with just a fire imp. A WHITE piece that you get early in the game. So it doesn't matter what piece you have. Just matters how skilled you are with them.

Must everything give you money/rep to be enjoyable?

I play polymock, and box, and do all sorts of mini games still, just for fun.

It seems like people these days wont do anything, not even for their own enjoyment, unless it pays. But i dont think A-net assumed the guild wars players where like that. The mini-games where not ment to be "make money quick" games, they where ment to entertain.

I agree. I play a game called Warcraft III almost every day. The custom games. They give no long term rewards whatsoever, or even a record that you played them. Why do I do it, then? For the fun, the challenge, teamwork, etc (but not for the people O.O).

Guild Wars should give gold for doing an emote. Doing a synced emote gives twice the gold. Because you should be rewarded for doing everything.

This is why past games at events were available over a weekend or a week only. Because they get really old, really fast for just about everyone.

These games are there to cater to the crowd who can't handle 1000+ skills, so they have pre-set skills, and always use that.

This is what GW2 will be about. No more confusing reading, choices, etc... Just 8 (or something similar) skills for the life-time of your character that scale as you level up. This is what the popular vote is.

Ah... So you don't run the same tutorial map over and over and over and over. Because that's what mini-games are. Tutorial level difficulty that you can run over and over and over and over. For no reward, with no change, with no challenge, just over and over and over and over...

Grind is the de-facto winner of MMORPGs. People love to do mindless, repetitive tasks. It's what constitutes fun for most (not all, just the majority).

Hmm, yeah PVP would be totally ruined by an overpowered piece, just like its overpowered by overpowered skills...... you ever heard of balancing?

I always thought there were 4 mini games, so far I've ran into Polymock, Norn Arena and Dwarven Boxing, no Vanguard mini game?

I think the introduction of minigames in GW:EN is really terrible. I mean at first I was like "WTF is this crap?". But after a while you figure that it's alright. But the terrible first reaction could be avoided with a nice intro. It's all the same with these PvE-builds that you receive and have to use instantly. No tutorial or learning or anything. That's really stupid.
