I do know that ANet reads the different forums but I don't think they'll do anything about it. I just hope that somewhere between now and GW2 they'll come up with ways to make up for it.

Oh well, if anything this just makes all of us and Arenanet even closer, like old friends really. See, it seems they enjoy using Texmod as well, so we have that in common now. I think we should be celebrating our common interests instead of wasting time with this whole "standard of quality" business.

For example, I am writing a paper for a British literature course at the moment. I am reusing large portions of the paper over and over again "for emphasis" :wink wink: Yeah! That's right!, Just like they did with their 18 unique dungeons!

Jeez complainers, cut them some slack. Like I am hoping my professor cuts me some slack when she grades this paper. And hey, maybe when the reviews come in for GW:EN, the reviewers won't notice the large reused chunks in their work either. Good luck buddies!

Well, honestly my opinion is this:

Very few Elite GW:EN Armors are worth my time to get- I want the norn rit (male) to replace my 1.5k spitit summoner set... The Asuran Paragon Female looks nice, but so does my vabbian so... meh.

The warrior armors (male) look really bad, particularly the crappy nonsense vanguard set (although I like the silver eagle) To me, its not about how much they look like kurzick or whateva armors - they can be reskinned and I dont care.. its more of a case that they just dont look appealing to me.

And my condolences to anyone with a male mesmer... not a single one looks to be on the level of 'elite armor' aside from the flashy asuran one (nty)

The only other armors from qw:en I want are the woad, dread mask, destroyer gloves, and blindfold.

I still love the new game, and there are plenty of things I want to farm/explore/aquire. gw:en will keep me satisfied for a very long time (especially since I wont be wasting all my money on armor sets this time around)

I call utter bullcrap. lol. Funny how people think that canthan and nightfall armor from new races in GWEN fit the lore. If they didnt want to spare the resources on GWEN to make new armor, fine, there better be some really kick ass stuff in GW2 (if i buy it) or in any upcoming updates. Anet knows the majority of the community is dissappointed in the armors as well as other parts of the game. But they have our money, and laugh at us. Of course i didnt buy GWEN just for the armor, but its a big part of GuildWars that i enjoy.

The only way we can let them know how to make a better game is to point out what they do wrong. And keep pointing it out over an over till they decide to care about it. Yes Anet cant make everyone happy, but if you look at this situation, its rather a majority. We really dont want them to screw up anything else in the future. I really enjoy playing Guild Wars, i thought GWEN could extend my enjoyment for the next year and a half, but now i dont find myself playing as much as i would hope.

Exactly, I also didn't buy GW:EN SOLELY for the armour, but it was one of the biggest things I was looking forward to. Waiting for Wiki to have all the pictures up was great anticipation but then revealed to be an incredible let down. The reason or should I say EXCUSE Gaile is giving us about the armours are suitable lore is absolutely laughable for the reasons you have correctly pointed out.

I think to get that one on your sin they would have to reconsider the Teen rating of the the game....

Seriously, while I'm not repulsed by any of the armors except the dwarven mismatched ones, I do find it interesting that in Factions and Nightfall I seemed to see several posts of "I've got to get that armor!" But in GWEN I have hardly seen anyone say they desperately had to have any of the GWEN armors. And I don't think that the community having too high expectations can really account for that.

Bad example. I dont think your British Lit paper is subject to personal taste and preferences is it?

A better example would be an artist who reuses the same themes over and over in their works. Like Monet paints lilies a lot. Or singers who do the same songs (classic blues riffs in almost all modern rock songs for example) over and over.

Sarcasm is funnier if its actually contextually applicable.

You know, for all we know, some bean counter accountant told the art staff to re-use meshes to save some money. I highly doubt that the art staff of ANet, after all the good work they have done to make the game look as good as it does, would suddenly decide to skimp out.

Just a thought. If this has been posted before, then I apologize, I am not reading all 21 pages of this thread.

Thanks!

By the way. I noticed there is a specular lighting (or whatever it is, shining reflection thing) on new armors in dye preview screen, inventory and character selection screen. And it is absent anywhere else. Why to make it there if it is not in game anywhere else? To disappoint?
Especially - when you see armor in dye preview screen, you see one thing. You like how it looks and apply dye. But then you see it on your character in game and realise that it looks differently (i can say "worse" but maybe not everyone agrees with that). That is frustrating.

I can say, my elementalist Norn armor looks much better with shine and reflection. And almost ugly without them.

This would be more applicable if Monet painted one lilly and then used that lilly to create a stamp to make all future lillies occurring in his work.

And no, an artist who repeats themes is not a better example. Arenanet did not repeat themes. They copy and pasted whole chunks of content. If you go into a dungeon and encounter the giant dining room, and then go into another dungeon and encounter the same dining room again, it is not thematically the same dining room, it is in fact the exact same dining room.

Criticism tends to be more critical when the critic knows what they are talking about.

I think most of us are getting off topic and trying to decide how to explain anets mess up the best. But what we need to focus on is getting some sort of response or reaction from Anet themselves. The armor is a great dissappointment, we need to make sure they dont do something stupid like this again in the future.

I have to say I originally didnt like the GWEN armors and I still believe they are re-hashed to a certain degree!

I got the Norn ele armor during the preview event and I liked it mostly because its different and im yet to see anyone else in it and I like bein original.

I now have the vanguard ele armor and its grown on me...

...I also have the ninja mask which goes well with it and the stone gauntlets, but they kind of suck!

Im not that dispointed anymore. It feels like im getting the elite pyro armor I should have got the first time around, but the prophercies version sucked.

I never liked the elite pyro armor and this feels like what it should have been originally. Its like they have used the influences from all 3 campaigns to make better armors, using the best from all.

It hasnt worked all around, but some armor are nice.

Sharing common themes is an imperfect example maybe, but better examples than your British lit paper.

Even if two buildings use the same building blocks, the floor plan and overall feel can be quite different.

Sharing tilesets and objects is a common technique in game design. One could say that Anet is a bit overzealous in GW:EN when it came to it though.

i also thought the armor was a major disappointment....guess i was trying to farm for no reason. The biggest disappointment for the armor for me was the ele armor. They all looked the same and so weird reskin of krytan armor i think. The was a major NO NO . Another weird thing was one of the assassin armors. IM not sure which but one of them was super OD with the spikes. So ya they didnt work that hard on the char armor.

Ele males have always been majorly dicked over by Arenanet. I was hoping this campaign might offer more interesting designs that AREN'T centered around a massive penguin coat, but nope.
