GW:EN's alright, but isn't worth $40. Relatively short story, and the dungeons are fairly repetitive. I just don't think it has enough content for it to cost 80% of a full GW game. Part of me (the legend of zelda fanboy part) really likes the dungeon idea, but after going through the story and completing 6 of them seperately, the concept is getting old already.

GWEN positives:

- Best looking GW so far.
- Dungeon's are a cool idea and give PvE more replay value.
- Some nice extras: Headgear, scavenger hunt, and so on.
- Zones are mostly unlocked, to open up the running potential.
- Heroes of different races.

GWEN Negatives:

- Short story campaign
- Retarded pve title requirements to get anything crafted. If you like to use multiple pve chars, you're SOL, unless you enjoy endless hours of mindless farming. If, like most people, you raged in NF about the make-work sunspear system, be prepared for rage x 4 if you purchase GWEN.
- No new classes, or elites.
- Minimal impact on PVP.
- Dungeons feel repititive after a while, and serve only to make me want to go play an old zelda game instead.
- Polymock mini-game feels rushed and pointless, given it has no lasting purpose, that I can see.
- New heroes add almost nothing strategically, given the 3 hero limit. The only exception is the ability to use 3 of some classes.
- Opening up the running game is basically a tease, since the NPCs ignore you without said titles.
- Many, many armor and weapon re-skins. There are a few good (new) ones, but it's hard to rave about them when there are so many re-skins. It reeks of lazy design, and given its cost...
- $40 is too much for this game. 80% the cost of a new game, and it has added very little, while at the same time copped-out on important weapon and armor additions.

There are a few things that would make EN a little more enjoyable (for me). Removing (or making account based) the stupid pve title system would at least make the system seem fair, and support the fact they've allowed some leeway with running; Allowing more heroes would open the game up strategically and make the new heroes actually mean something; Expanding on Polymock to allow pvp would give it some replay value at least. Fixes like these would at least allow me to enjoy what content there is, without making it seem like I'm doing a chore in playing. This is a game, and games are supposed to be fun, right?

As it stands right now I feel EN is overpriced for what it is. Compound that with the fact that some of the content is limited by pointless restrictions, and it might make you regret your purchase.

get factions, its a much better game. you see some people say factions was a bad game but they are most likely the ones who like gwen, and that renders their opinion invalid

indeed, it was so though provoking that i pretty much used the same skill bars (apart from 1/2 changes in specialized areas) on my heroes the whole campaign

to the OP, only reason why i would say you would want to buy GWEN is if you've played and finished all 3 of the previous campaign and just want to continue with GW

if not, you're better off spending the $$ on another game

What does GWEN have to offer?
As for myself, titles mean nothing to me, and neither does a virtual hall with my virtual items. I am a man of gameplay- I am seeking to have fun, not to be glorious. Yet from what I heard, the above mentioned are a large portion of the game, is this true?

And some additional things I am pondering:
How much content is there in GWEN compared to the other campaigns?
Does GWEN offer anything new for PvP?
Does GWEN offer some new PvE gameplay, or does it follow the same (yet successful) formula of the previous games?

Thanks...
I played GW:EN for about a week and got sorta bored or uninterested in it but that's just me. I've found other things in life to keep me occupied so I barely play GW anymore. So far I went through the primary quests pretty fast even though I tried to take my time but I'm not sure how much longer I have until I "beat" the game but I'm not worried about that. I'll probably eventually come back and play for a day or so but for now I'm too busy with RL stuff, thank goodness for that! At this point I don't think I should have bought GW:EN since I don't feel the need to play anymore but that's too late.

I was going to grind for the titles or at least grind until I could get the armor but then I decided to just continue the storyline rather than grinding and being bored fast. But it seems that if you want to get your armor then you have to grind for the title. GW:EN's content is a lot smaller than the previous campaigns hence "expansion pack" but the way the environment looks is amazing including the music.

In the end, GW:EN preps us all for GW2, and gets us prepared so far as our armor sets perhaps being carried over into that next game, or perhaps just other achievements being the main things for us. The expansion offers very little for new players, and really the one's that will care the MOST are those of us that have had prophecies for some time now. This ties up the loose ends we had questions on, and it also just helps some of us to see what may be in store as this section of the game shuts down. It has been about two and a half years now since the game's release, if I'm correct, and this is getting to be a large deal. Titles and glory are not everything, no, but if I'm able to have something carried over to the next game, that's not a bad thing at all. I would much rather that for something that will hopefully last a long time.

As per GW:EN right now?... I would let them work out some things, in particular see if they'll do anything with armors, lower the title neded (at least) for these sets and perhaps add more content. I doubt all of these will go in, but once again, this is all just a bonus for those of us that had Prophecies way back. The true games are still the three campaigns, with GW:EN as a filler.

Its like seeing somebody figure skate for the first time in your life. Sure, it looked good, but what was it scored, a 8, a 9.5, a 6? Unless you know what to look for and are able to compare that skater's jumps to the theoretical perfect jump, you won't know how to score it. The ONLY way to do so fairly is to compare preformances to some sort of standard.
Would it be fair to compare children to the exact same standards as adults? No and people don't. This isn't a FULL game, you cannot equally compare it to a full game, and then claim Anet were trying to make the playing field equal, EoTN is not ment to be as long, and ass big as the games are.

If you thought it was then thats your problem. Not anybody elses.

To the OP - If your more into PvP then Factions is the better option over EoTN, there is far more skills that can be used in PvP as well as the Assassin and Ritualists Proffessions. EoTN is totally focused around PvE.

If you're not a GW fan and like to play other games more than GW I'd simply buy another game.

For me GW:EN was only exciting because I'm a crazy GW fan who has been playing for 26 months, casually, but still for an extended period of time.

If you're not a crazy fan, don't buy it. Frankly, the content isn't good enough, and there were too many disappointments to make it worth it.

The scenery is breathtaking the music is nail bitting the missions are fun!
the story is pretty good as well.
Only downer is the drop rate of some items required to craft collectors armor.
(Cough Rin Relics Cough)
though i would only buy it as extra content if you've completed the other 3 campaigns

Don't bother unless you just want the new HERO's. I hate to say this but ANET got an "F" for "FAILURE" at this expansion. Looking at the current trend don't bother with GW2 either.

My reason for purchasing Guild Wars years ago was because of this unique design of Skill over grind. This game model has gone out of the window.

I sincerely hope that NCSoft investors are reading these forums to pull funding. I'm so upset over this game change philosophy I've encouraged all of my close friends to find another game to play on weekends.

Word of Mouth marketing FTW! Counterstrike anyone?

I'd like to address the $40 complaint...

$40 is really not that much. I know it is for some people, but honestly, if $40 is too much to spend on a video game... maybe you need another hobby.

Now, is GWEN "worth" $40...

To me it is. I value my entertainment budget by the time it's kept me entertained... so far, I've been playing GWEN for a week, and it's kept me entertained. There's not much in this world you can do for a week that will cost you less than $40.

Well, thanks for all the replies. I wanted to respond earlier, but the forum didn't load for the past 2 days..

I guess that overall, most people said the other campaigns are better, but on the other hand GWEN has the most amount of active players as it is new.
Tough choice, but thanks for the advice.

Gwen is awesome.. the dungeons are fun as hell. As for the title requirement for being able to use the crafters, big whoop. It really isn't that much like rank 5 or something iirc, which is nothing.

Yes, NCSoft and Arena Net have made those investors a lot of money and they are going to try to stop the companies from making them more money because a couple whiny brats on a forum didn't find the game perfect and will bitch and complain 'til the cows come home to try and keep other from playing a game that tens or hundreds of thousands are easily getting $40 worth of entertainment out of.

If you buy GWEN for $40 you're out of your mind IMO, here in Holland I bought it for $20. Is it really that expensive everywhere?
