Default Dungeons Too Dark

Does anyone else think some of the dungeons are too dark? I know it's underground ect but it also needs to be playable. In my opinion this is one of the worst aspects of EotN. Sometimes I can't see a thing and have to hold down the Ctrl or Alt to see a clickable item just to get around. I really think there should be some torches or something to light up some of the very dark areas... when there is light shinning through they are beautiful dunegons... but yeah... I've just found some to be dark to the point that they were not as fun as they could have been... Just thought I'd see if anyone was feeling similar.

I think it's on your end..I've yet to have a problem with lighting in any of the dungeons..

-perhaps tweak your settings?

Hit the F11 key, go to the graphics tab (I believe). There's a setting for Screen Gamma. Just move it up a lot so you can see better while in a dungeon.

Well I feel like a tard if it's on my end. I tried playing around with my monitor but not with the options in Guild Wars itself. I'll have to try that >.>

Edit: I did try the brightness ect.. I still think it might be a little too dark regardless because I do not have the problem anywhere else in the game. *shrug* I dunno... I thought a lot of people might have agreed but perhaps not.

It's Underground.... it supposed to be dark. And no it isnt that dark that it influences the game play.

My brightness is at the top. Certain snow/desert areas hurt my eyes.

But in the ... Menagerie dungeon I think... I had a keg and I walked into a dark hall. I thought it wasn't a hall, but a flat door that needed blowing up, so I dropped the keg in the middle of a hall. >> Certain places are too damn dark.

Some of them are very dark. I'll totally agree with you there.

From dictionary:

Quote:
2. dungeon - a dark cell (usually underground) where prisoners can be confined
jail cell, prison cell, cell - a room where a prisoner is kept
oubliette - a dungeon with the only entrance or exit being a trap door in the ceili
Emphasis: dark

Download "powerstrip." It's free..

Ctrl, alt, + for brighter
Ctrl, alt, - for darker

Great for FPS games.

DO NOT change the brightness of your monitor. Keep it to what you want for your desktop!

Instead, just change the GAMMA slider in game under video options. This will correct for the overall color of the game. Almost every game has a gamma option, so there is no need for Powerstrip and no need to re-adjust your monitor every time. However when you take screen shots the gamma is ommited and the picture will look dark again. These pictures need to be re-leveled in Photoshop...which most don't do as you can tell by the overly dark crappy pictures found in Guild Wiki, especially of the various player armor.

I wish people would learn to adjust for this because it does not help to see the armor if you can't see the armor! Here is a typical dungeon I see with proper gamma on my end (1280x1024):

http://gallery.clanfudge.net/main.ph...65-2/gw082.jpg (one of the darker ones)

Hopefully this helps and gets around so we can all take and post better screenshots!

My old computer had a similar issue. Some of the darker areas were so dark I had to adjust the game settings, and adjust them back for the brighter areas. Then my computer... well... black goo oozed out the back of the laptop. So I bought a new one. Looks fine now. And the super nice video card doesn't hurt either.

So, something that would be interesting to know is the age of your monitor or equipment. Is it a laptop? Just curious.

I have an LCD monitor and it's pretty good, but LCDs always have issues with Dark colors. Because of this, there is little contrast in many of the dungeons so it can be hard to see sometimes. All in all I think it's still pretty playable, but I'd agree there are some very dark places.

As an artist though, I love the visual effect of dark & light heh.
