Default True PvE Only Skills?

This is more of a debate thread then factual, just to make that clear. When GW:EN was announced to include PvE skills I was ecstatic, because you see to me the true colors of each profession never shined through, and PvE skills would be a creative outlet allowing them another chance. Theres nothing epic about a Flesh Golem summoned by a Necro (despite how much of a GW hero that Necro may be) when you fight colossal versions in the Ring of Fire Islands that casts it's own spells. My point being is that, I thought the PvE skills were going to be good ol' super powered profession specific over glorifying spells/attacks/enchantments. (Much along the line of The Sunspear/Alliance skills). To me PvE only skills are a great chance to really show creativity with out worrying about the balance upset in PvP.

So my question is, what would you guys have preferred? Rangers being able to use a Sneak stance to temporally become camouflaged from enemy aggro, Necromancers summing a Bone Dragon from 5 corpses, Warriors with a hammer attack that works like a Shockwave, Dervish's being able to cast the Avatar of Kormir on themselves, or the half-rate race based skills were were stuck with? Now believe me, I'm a man who'll take challenge over easy cake any day. I don't want PvE to be easier with the skills I have envisioned, simply to be cooler, and deep down isn't that what you want for all your characters?

PvE skills were based towards the races not the actrully professions its like saying im a minion master going W/N class PvE skill would be fine not epic normal skills you obtain during a quest like the good old days of Proph so i dont agree with "Super power professions"

[[ Rangers being able to use a Sneak stance to temporally become camouflaged from enemy aggro, Necromancers summing a Bone Dragon from 5 corpses, Warriors with a hammer attack that works like a Shockwave, Dervish's being able to cast the Avatar of Kormir on themselves.. ]]

That's just...those ideas made me smile and go "WOW! That's be incredible!=O" All of the points there are great - even that, when Vanquishing in Elona this afternoon I personally thought "You know, they should have Kormir statues and new bonuses like the others, even if only in EotN, it'd be neat. :C"

Hmmm. I won't deny, I'm rather fond of my Asuran skills (eventho it knocks a Sunspear or Lux/Kurz skill if I get to PvE only happy) and alliance mates use the Dwarven regularly....the concept of PvE only, in that sense, was kind of shot-down with these. :/ I understand those concepts could be incredibly over-powered to begin with, but hey? Everything gets the Nerf Bat sooner or later?

I agree and disagree, very evenly. But your ideas were excitingly unique.

That actually sounds delicously badass, Nevin, kind of like Gauntlet: Legends. "You must kill 30 more enemies before the bone dragon Veldineer can be summoned." Boo yah!!

Now I'm disappointed : (.

Real pve skill;

This spell hits all enemies in the current zone. Deal 256256 damage and set all enemies on fire for 256256 seconds. This fire is green and also causes disease, poison, bleeding, deep wound, cracked armor, molten armor, and retarded babies.

This spell also kills yourself, but you'll respawn at the nearest Rez shrine, so no worries, it's impossible to lose.

Actually to much to what I'd assume would be your disregard, I don't think the thought of farming ever crossed my mind. You see, unlike the machines most GW players have turned themselves into I still crave for what GW was meant to be to me. I thought of how epic and neat it'd be to see a full team with a place for every profession taking down a huge group of monsters the way it should be done, the warrior in front smacking foes with shield and sword, with the assassin close in to cover his back with a few head stabs and slashes to the hard hitters, mesmers holding down the backline casters with illusionary chains, nukers and rangers letting out the pain across targets, while a monk sends a blue burst of energy through the warrior just before he falls. I'm sorry you lack the creative imagination to think of anything other then how well you or anyone else could exploit these skills.

If my words are too lack luster (which they most likely are), perhaps you should watch the trailer for Prophecies. Now I know battles in GW could never look that amazing, but all I wanted was the basic abilities to have a battle of that scale.

You're in like, because from what I can understand, that'll be what we get in GW2.

Fo sho.

in that case i apologize as this has turned for the most part into a hardcore farming/epeen item site no fun required

i saw either steamrolling the present level content or having to raise the mob level to the point if it was a challenge those skills would be required to play and no regular skills required

It would be no problem whatsoever to introduce so-called "epic" skills, if the game content was balanced according to this, and these skills were only available for use against said game content.

In fact, that is what I was hoping that GW:EN would provide. I agree, the new skills are for the most part disappointing, and show very little creativity. This goes both for PvE-only and the new all-around skills.

I'm on the fence on this one.

Yes having massivly powerfull pve only skills sounds nice, I really loved the bug that had my war dishing out 300+ dmg with sword attacks.

However it would be abused by farmers and bots and the like, and the game would become a total Hench/hero fest since nothing would be hard enought to stop these skills.

In the end its the argument of Defence vs Offence, which play style is more fun/interesting. Anet seams to vote for Defence as they continue to stack higher damage dealing foes in greater numbers against us while placing limits on how much damage our skills can do. Pain Inverter(max 80) Energy Blast(max130) Holy Wrath(max 41) Eremite's Attack(max30).

I would like to see some of these restrictions removed, or added to the monster skills so it was a little more ballanced than it now is.

Nevin, bingo, you've said exactly what I've been thinking for the longest time. Essentially, we're looking to the 'effects' to improve, not necessarily the skills becoming ridiculously powerful or anything.

For instance, I have mentioned before about how cool it would be to finally get Mesmer skills that actually control an opponent. This is something that couldn't necessarily be done in PvP with any sort of balance, but would be simply amazing in PvE. Domination skills that allow you to control one monster as you would a hero, or Illusion skills that make a monster appear to be an enemy to other monsters - stuff like that. It wouldn't be uber, or even more powerful than other skills, just something that could be used in PvE only, due to the nature of the skill.

That's exactly what I thought we would get with PvE-only skills, only to find they are just like other skills, only overpowered. It's simply too boring as it is. Lame, really.

Well WoW does it, and it's still great fun so I though GW would too. Assassin's should be able to turn invisible and half their aggro circle, mesmers should be able to mind control/create illusionary doubles. All this happens in Wow so I don't see why it would be impossible in GW.

It doesnt need to be overpowered, just needs to be cool.

I mean, summon mursaat and ruby djinn is really amazing. I would love to have more skills like these.

The skills that are so bad for PvE purposes (Smooth Criminal, Ear Bite) are disappointing, but many of the others are awesome. Finish Him, You Move like a Dwarf, Pain Inverter are all nice.

I liked the over powered PvE skills you got at the end of Factions on the way to beat Shiro. They where profession specific (although I think the assassin one was out of place) and had the feeling of power. I thought at the time it was a shame you could only use them in a couple of specific places

Profession-Specific PvE Skills = Teh Win.
Generalised Noncy PvE Skills = Teh Lose.

AGREED.

We need more skills that we would be proud to use.... that would make the common people remember us for what we were.... Not just a load of crap that anyone from any profession can pick up and throw around if it already happens to have a place in their build.

And just what the hell is with skills being based on being drunk to function? That is pure novelty and seriously dysfunctional... (though admittedly... Drunken Master and Illusionary Weapons are sex together, if drunk).

although overall I'd have to say their pve skills aren't too bad - I do like them as a whole...I also have to say I LOVE your ideas. Even better and cooler!! I'd love it.
