Hi all, I recently purchased both the pre-order and then GWEN itself but found I was not given the pre-order discount. I submitted a question to the plaync site and here's the reply I got from them eventually:

Hi Victor,

In reviewing your account, it appears you purchased your Pre-release Access Key from the Guild Wars Official Store in-game. You then purchased your retail access key from the PlayNC Store. These are two separate stores.

Unfortunately, to receive the $5.00 discount on the purchase price of Guild Wars: Eye of the North, you must purchase your Eye of the North Access Key from the same online location where you purchased your pre-release access key. In other words, if you purchased your pre-release access key from the Official Guild Wars Store in-game, you must purchase your Eye of the North Access Key from the in-game store using the same Guild Wars account. Conversely, if you purchased your pre-release access key from the PlayNC Store, you must purchase your Eye of the North Access Key from the PlayNC Store using the same PlayNC master account.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

I did not receive any notification via email that my question had been updated and had I not logged in to check, I would not have discovered that my case was already considered closed.

Can any kind soul out there point out to me anywhere (website or otherwise) where it's clearly stated that purchasing the game in the fashion I did meant that I would forfeit my discount?

Don't know if this helps, but I bought my pre-release from a high street retailer then purchased the full game through the online store - and I did get the full game with the discount (£21.50).

I wasn't expecting to get it, so was surprised.

Seems like common sense to me... I mean if you bought a pre-release from Gamestop, you wouldn't expect EB's to give you the discound now would you?

There's no reason that issue shouldn't have been close. It's quite obvious that it was just a misunderstanding on your part that had nothing to with them...

It doesn't need to be clearly stated, becuase the stores are separate. It's just common sense to assume that the discount only applies if you buy from the same place.

The in game store is run by Arenanet. The Plaync store is run by NCsoft. Although a parent company it's effectively two different companies and two different 'shops'

I would think that as long as you have a pre-order key registered on your game account, it doesn't make any difference whether you purchased the final game from the in-game store or PlayNC, the discount should still apply.

The impression I've always had was that the PlayNC Store and the In-Game Store are the same beast, only with 2 different interfaces for access.

It's disappointing that NCSoft customer support is so casual about simply passing this off as my mistake even though it's not indicated anywhere that it's essential to use the exact same "store" to make the purchase.

Sadly no, NCSoft doesn't seem to care and I've no way of contacting someone like Gaile directly. =P

I sure hope they don't end up screwing me over in some other way later on, like telling me I don't qualify for the bonus mission packs or something.

Gamestop owns EB... but I understand your point.

Yeah, pretty sad. These sort of stories are getting much too common and have absolutely killed my confidence in Arenanet/NCSoft--from being the biggest fanboy yes-man in the community to being a spiteful critic of their moneygrabbing schemes. :\

That's kind of weird, because I did exactly that - bought the pre-order at the PlayNC store, and the full game at the GW in-game store - and somehow got the discount anyway.
