Default Petition: Hall of Monuments Changes

Dear Anet and Staff,

After the recent weekend event, I (and many others in the Guild Wars community) feel that the Hall of Monuments layout and design is severely flawed. Considering all the hype prior to the weekend event, we as a community were expecting more out of HoM, especially after seeing countless interviews, videos and articles on the highly anticipated feature in GW:EN.

As a community we strongly urge Anet to change the layout of the Hall of Monuments. After spending the entire weekend reading the forums, here are just a few of the many complaints, and things that SHOULD be changed BEFORE release of the next expansion.

So here we are, an organized list, that will be updated daily, if needed.

NOTE: This article is being written from the observation and gameplay of the Sneak Preview Weekend. This does not reflect how the actual game may be (we do not know if it will change).

----------------------------------
Current Flaws in Hall of Monuments:

1. Account Based
-Currently in the Preview Weekend, HoM is Character based. This concerns many players, as many players have multiple (or even half a dozen) characters that they wish to get to HoM, and upgrade enough to have some benefit in Guild Wars 2. Having a account based system would allow all of your accomplishments to be shown in one place, and NOT spread across many different Halls.

2. Monument of Devotion

-Currently, the Monument of Devotion shows statues of minipets and collectables. When you put a Minipet on display, it becomes assigned to that character and that character alone. That means if you want to use it with say for instance ANOTHER character on your account, you can't. This is a severe flaw in HoM, no doubt.
- Minipets should, or could be assigned to ACCOUNTS and not specific characters. I know as a player I wouldn't want to buy multiple sets of minipets just to show them off in my hall. Granted, I don't NEED to, but it would alot easier if I just had one place where all of my minipets were located, and this ties in with the Hall being account based.

3. The Monument of Honor
-Of all the areas in HoM, this one confounds me the most. First off, you can only display PvP titles in this area, and secondly, you have to be rank 9 or higher in that title to even show it.

This upsets many PvE players, as completion of a title includes a small paragraph description, such as completing a campaign, or getting the Kind of A Big Deal title track far along. And many HA'ers or GvGers who spend all of their time in PvP aren't even able to show their titles, because HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE RANK 9 IN CHAMPION? Not many.

4. The Monument of Valor

- This monument displays high end weapons from GW:EN. Many players have said that it would be nice to display whatever you want, and make it a bit more customizable.

5. The Monument of Resilience
- This monument displays ascended armors for your character...well not really. It displays the area of which you got the armor, and the type of armor it is, and then displays a sample of what the armor looks like on two random classes.
- If you spend hundreds of hours getting your Obsidian and went to display it, the last thing you would want to see is a picture of a Ritualist and his armor, instead of your own. While this flaw isn't a very big deal, it would make a whole lot more sense to simply show that characters armor, right?

6. Accessibility to HoM
- Instead of having to travel to Tyria, then Eye of the North, and then run into the portal for your HoM, why not just make it a sidebar on your character screen? Pressing H would bring up a bar that would say " Go to my Hall of Monuments" clicking it would instantly bring you to the hall, instead of spending more time going to portal after portal. This feature would be similiar to the Player Rank bar, and Hero battles.

7.Upgrades in HoM
- Title says it all. In addition to making HoM account based, adding fun NPC's for you to buy would not only be a money sink, but would be great for those who are guildless, or just want a Xunlai agent where ever they go.

More to come.
-------------------------------
These are just a FEW of the many complaints and constructive crit that has been said many times over the weekend on Guru. I have simply compiled them all together, and put them into an organized sticky for Anet, Gaile, and whomever else to read and consider.

If you agree, with the post, say /signed and discuss.

If you agree partially, say /agree and discuss.

If you disagree with EVERYTHING written here on this thread, say /notsigned and discuss.

If you would like something changed in this petition, please PM me or write in this thread.

Thank you!

I agree with almost everything in that post, but as for minipets, instead of customizing them to a player/account, I think it would be better if, for them at least, it was more like storage. You can put them in to display them, then if you change your mind you can take them out. This would certainly keep people from lending the minis over and over, while still allowing people to change their mind down the road.

HoM really needs some major changes. I'd also like to add that the Monument of Honor should allow you to display any title you've earned. ex. I should be able to display a title such as Tryian Explorer 60.0%. Basically, any title you can display in game should also be on display in HoM. Also, I think we should hold off on suggesting new "upgrades" or other random new things for HoM. Anet needs to "fix" or tweak HoM before taking suggestions for additional content.

The original post also lacks comments on the Monument of Fellowship. I think most people were upset that you had to "upgrade" your heroes in order to display them. Personally, I'd prefer not to waste money on armor pieces for them. They should be added to the Monument once you unlock them. Their appearance at the monument could change when you buy an armor piece.

I totaly agree, the worst flaw is that minipets become customized to characters imho.
But the rest should be solved aswell!

I have....8 lvl 20 PvE characters, and each of them, has their respective titles, non-account based.
I thought the Hall of Monuments would be my way of compressing that, however, as it is, I am going to have 8 Severely disappointing HoMs.

Thank you for writing your petition.

Edit- Just thought of the Festivals, and the special hats. If you notice my Avatar, it was taken in the magical time period of Nov.1 2005. I want to show off my many festival *Hats* too!

One thing I'd like to add to this area is that some people like to make their own armour combinations. For instance my assassin uses mostly elite canthan, but has luxon leggings and a vabbian mask. My mesmer has an ancient & vabbian mix, etc. Not only would I like for it to display the correct class for the armour, (my monk was rather shocked to see ritualist and assassin obsidian armour instead of her own) but I'd also like for it to be able to display the combos a given character has, such as my mesmer or my assassin.

One thing I would add though is that I would love to see the Fellowship monument let any hero or pet you have acquired be displayed, but if you have acquired special armor for them, allow THAT to be displayed as well.

Honestly with hero statues, I'd also like to see more of them on the stage even if they have to be a lot smaller hehe.

There is still a contradictory thing: The HoM isn't account based, but the PvP Titles are.

Without knowing what the specific mechanism/affect this will have for GW2, I agree with much of what was said here.

Additional points:
1. There are several of the more popular minipets that are account-based (the Grawl and Asura both come to mind, as I doubt multiple keys can be used to have more than one). Locking those minipets to a certain character seems an unreasonable sacrifice.

2. I fully support decreasing the requirement for the Monument of Honor. I am a roleplayer first and foremost, and as such my character titles mostly reflect the character I am playing (Pathfinder for my ranger, Seeker of Wisdom for my necro, etc.). I should be able to display those accomplishments with pride, not have to break character concept, or not play certain characters at the expense of another just to achieve a certain title.

3. I agree with the sentiment that the Monument of Valor should display what ever weapon you choose. While we probably have not seen the endgame GWEN weapons, I think most who have one will agree an Urgoz Longbow or the Factions endgame weapons are of sufficient difficulty to get that they warrant display. Also, should we anticipate a similar problem to the Monument of Resilience in that they may not actually be our weapon that is displayed, but a generic representation?

4. Lastly, the idea of buying upgrades (Xunlai agent, Priest of Balthazar) for the HoM, and having a hotkey to jump there, is an awesome one, and an improvement that would be most welcome. Also, allow us to post our own "guards" instead of Stonehealer and Vekk at the door...I would be more confident with Goren guarding my stuff.

I was just about to make a post just like this, a well organized and 'friendly' approach to getting changes made. Rather than swearing and cursing Anet. Good job.

oh and /signed too all the changes.

I had hoped the HoM would be more like a massive storage locker. Like the mini-pets. Instead of a copy of my mini-pet on the shelf... I'd like to put the actual pet there so I don't have to carry it around in my inventory.

Same with armor. If I could put the actual set of armor on a rack in the HoM, then I could buy more armor sets since the extra set wouldn't be clogging my inventory.

I was expecting a place that could store tons of stuff, and organize it for me. I had also hoped it would say list all the quests I had accomplished across all the campaigns, showing me what was still left to do. But that was just a random dream.

Why change game mechanics for some things (minipets) to enable a feature in a game that's still in development? Change GW2, not the existing game. I am not going to force myself to PvP all the time to get the r9 PvP titles to place in the HoM. Silly, you've said it all better than I ever could.

I agree with what is beeing said here. the mini pet thing gets me I want a place to put my mini pets so they are not in my stoarge but i dont want them customized cause when i am hard up for money i go right tothose to sell. and being account based is a great idea to me it would be like your own guild hall. hopfully they will change it

I'd like an extra tab in storage added for Gwen like we recieved awhile back for each campaign we own.
