Also I really feel for people who bought rare skins, they get nailed pretty hard... I was actually about to buy a Stygian Reaver for my Monk myself, not going to do that anymore . I wonder what happens to (high-end) trading when minipets also become untradable or character-bound...

Really, I agree with you. having a serpent axe and a dwarven axe now are FTL.

All my expensive items went to a worth of about 5k.

But damn! you've got LOTS of expensive items. I feel for you.

Did you seriously thing those "expensive" items would stay expensive forever?

Character assassination FTL more like it. Been in a guild or 2 with Herb, played with him etc top guy, no doubt, also, no ego.

People like his rare shit, so he obliges them.

Anyway - Smart people know items like Stygian Reavers/Runic Blades etc will always lose value, just not this quick.

no, but I didn't think they would lose value overnight... Because if they hadn't started dropping by Nightfall, you kinda figure they wern't going to start anytime soon...

Anet seems to hate grinding for weapons, yet they support grinding for titles.

/sigh

And Herb is an awesome guy. He's roxxors. I hate to see him go.

Couldn't say TBH I've not heard or seen any drop in PvE play.

I sold it very cheap to revelation, lol. I remember that. I don't play the warior class at all so I had no use for it whatsoever.

I have no problem with natural depreciation. When items become more common over time or where a new chapter's items cause previous chapter's items to become less popular thus leading to a fall in their value.

For example, the year 2 mini pets will fall in price further as more and more people hit the 2nd year mark.

There is a big difference between the above example and completely changing the drop rate and location of an item. I.e. Runic Blades.

I get confused with difference between Runic Blade and Legendary Sword but AFAIK Runics have the same skin as Gothic Swords. Even more reason for Anet not to add them to GWEN. They could have even added inscribable Gothic Swords to GWEN instead. But o no, they had to add the alternate skin which just happened to be worth a ton of gold. That disappoints me. They could have even added the skin to GWEN with another name.

All I ask of Anet as they keep on doing this, is to stop adding rare skins which they decide later they dont want to be rare. Maybe just make all future items common to obtain or something as its a hell of a lot less unfair.

TY for the nice comments about me =)

Edit:

Totally agree with Malice about the unexpected change in value of rare items. If you collect items you can minimise your losses but some things are totally unexpected. E.g. staff change which totally destroyed old staffs value. +45hex --> +60hex was also another unforseeable change.

Its about what is fair. Anet dont need to keep releasing rare skins then making them common months later. They do this again and again. People buy the skin then it is worthless.
lose gold? worthless?
There is the words, "Time is Money".
They payed alot of money to buy rare item early.

I fail to see how that could apply to Runic Blades. Adding them to GWEN as a droppable item is not natural depreciation. It was an unexpected and unforeseeable change.

*Awaits a load of posts saying it was to be expected etc.*

Legendary Swords have the Gothic skin. Runics have the Mallyx Edge skin.

But they aren't droppable in the sence off other gold items, so far runic blades have only been found in dungeon chests and at the minute one dungeon, Frostmaw it is also near imposible to solo and takes time to do. I have done 5 runs and not seen 1 of them drop. Someone in my guild has got one from there and there are reports off others.

What happened in GWEN is bad. max dmg runic blades dropping from monsters is WAY BAD!

If purples dropped from chests, sure, IDK about that. then people who want the skin (Like me...) can get it cheap. But those who invested in a 15>50 max gold version from halls isn't as screwed.

Dropping from monsters is a no-no. a .001% chance to drop from a chest in any given area is ok. (That's 1 in 1000. that's not very common.)

^ LOL..wouldn't that be something.

I could care less about a Runic Blade. I'll take a Brute or a Long Sword anyday.

To all the hardcore traders, you seriously need to play a different game. Guild Wars was never a game for that kind of stuff. It's been years and there still isn't even a decent auction house.

One ridiculous thing about an item being more "prestige" than another is the text that no one will ever notice - tons of people hate req13 items....it's the stuff they spit on. But when a gold is req9, all the sudden is so great and valuable....as someone already mentioned, other players can't even SEE the low req....unless you're the type that likes to show off at every moment. Besides that, the only people running weapon mastery below 12 don't even know how to play the game.

I already said this in another thread - there is no weapon superior to another in this game (except the few uncondtionals). Look at other RPG's where a rare item actually has an advantage over other weapons and it's actually something to show off. Now compare GW where something as ridiculous as text color and a silly number determine how prestige an item is. GW isn't even like most MMORPG's, it's a stragety based team game. Just because that people that play the game the way it's meant to be played now have access to rare skinned weapons doesn't mean you have to throw a fit.

If anything, Anet favors these players more than the farming grinders that can't setup a decent build when it comes to HM pve....or even general pve. I've been in plenty of guilds with farm-addicts that can't even beat any mission for themselves....they need to beg in guild chat for some help on some easy pve mission.

The funny thing is when you see these idiots wearing fow armor.

Thanks for telling me, but I have build I love that have req less that 12. (Mostly because it's a deadly arts sin...)

But we collect for the sake of collecting! Hell, Herb is known for his insane collections! do you think he really *wanted* people to start interrupting his gameplay so they could see what his collection is?

you'd be argueing if you paid X plat for a crafter weapon, and it was reduced to X gold wouldn't you?

Ofcourse items lose their rarity when the time passes, simply because there are more available after a period of time. I'm sure the first req9 inscribable Crys (somewhere in January, wasn't there when it happened) was worth way more than the 300-400 ecto it's worth atm. But these unexpected changes are just lame.. like when I sold a Guardian of the Hunt for 100k+80ecto about 3 months ago, I actually lost money by selling the same shield for about 100k+20ecto one week later, due to the Kurzick elite mission .

Dont know if this is something new, but someone I know had a req10 Dwarven Axe gold/inscribable dropped from a locked chest. The Runic dropped from the reward chest in a dungeon, I wonder if they also drop from locked chests in GW:EN.. that would be even worse .
