Killing Magmus in the Heart of the Shiverpeaks
What is the best party for killing Magmus. I am trying to solo it and have tried several parties but he wipes half of them out in the first attack.
On a side note can you complete the game again for the reward with the same character?

well seeing as all he deals is fire dmg...should be pretty easy to counter..
if ur doing with heros/hencheis bring a warder(preferably urself) with ward against harm and archaned echo maelstrom. Constant inteupts and 63 armor vs fire. Give ur heros mantra of flame if possible too.(Energy help and 30-40% less dmg)
That or bring 2 heros with protective spirit
or Bring an Oath shot spirit spammer with shelter
or bring a mantra of recovery, mistrust, guilt, power spike, backfire hero.
and remeber dont use fire dmg spells with u or ur heros and dont bring cynn.

I did that dungeon with H/H a while ago. The hardest part of the fight was not Magmus, but the massive number of Ooze that spawn when you kill him.
I don't remember what exactly I used, but I think I had a Spoil Victor necro, and that was enough.

Aggro him to trigger ooze spawns and pull back - he doesn't follow far. Flag hench back into the entrance to Magmus's cave, and ping ooze with a bow in small groups, pick them off. When Magmus + one or two others are left, fan out your team with flags, aggro him and take him down. His only damage sources are PBaOE and Savannah Heat. Try to take SH yourself as unlike hench you have the brains to move out of it, then he should go down pretty easily as he can only damage one of you at a time. Hench monks should be able to fend off spikes against a single character. If someone does die, just res them and carry on - piece of cake.

Forgive me I am fairly new to GW and mainly solo so I don't understand a lot of the terminology. I'm still not having any luck with him for what ever reason he just wipes my team even when spread out. I even tried winter thinking he had a weakness to cold. This isn't the only one I haven't been able to do. I cant seem to beat the mission were you have to solo the griffin, the norn tournament I cant get past the 4 round. or the Attack on Jalis's Camp. Ah well ill just keep trying but I did want to thank you all for the advice. It was appreciated if not a little late in coming.

very easy to do in hard mode with henches. once u're at magmus flag h/h back, lure him, he will disangage and u can kill oozes almost one by one.
once magmus is alone just tank him at the entrance with h/h flagged back, being able to attack him but not to be target of his spells.
as soon as he casts savannah's heat use pain inverter on him... good bye magmus

Buckshot - basically, don't fight Magmus unless he's on his own (kill the oozes that spawn with him first by luring them away from him with a bow).
Magmus does area of effect damage, so if you spread your party out using flags, then he can only damage one of you at a time. That alone makes a full party wipe unlikely. Interrupt some of his bigger spells (savannah heat in particular), and he should go down pretty easily.
Not sure *how* new you are, but spend some time getting good bars together for your heroes too if you haven't already. You can do this mission with the popular 3 necro hero build, but it's nice to pack some interrupts too.
For the griffin btw, try taking one run skill, one self heal, condition removal (to remove blind from the shadowsong spirit) and some skills that degen health (conjure phantasm, radiation field, burning arrow etc). Unload degen on griffon, activate run skill, run away, heal up and dodge the griffon until you're ready to degen him again. You can make it faster by taking some summons if you have them available (ebon vanguard assassin support and summon fire djinn both work well). Cheesy, but easy.

I have no problem killing the mobs around him its just killing him that seems to be the issue. I have tried to spread my heroes out with the flags but they seem to die faster than they can be healed. I have made sure all my heroes are 20 and have a full range of powers. But when I attack I was putting them in a triangle formation with quite a bit of distance between them but close enough they can still heal each other. But the ruddy henchies get slaughtered then rest of us aren't far behind As to H/H I have no idea what that is nor do I know anything about any of the builds. Lol and what do you mean by getting good bars together? I have only been playing for maybe 2 months and as I said it has been solo. So again please forgive my ignorance and thanks for your patience and help

By "bars" I mean skillbars. It would be a good idea for you to plan out a combination of heroes that synergises well with your own character build. Use hero skill points or balthazar faction to unlock skills for them. You can find advice on hero and team builds in other parts of this forum - it would be totally reasonable for you to "copy" someone else's tried and tested hero team build - the 3 necro build is a reasonable one to try.
Make sure all your heroes have res sigs (you can expect a death or two against a strong ele boss), and bring reliable interruption / caster shutdown. A ranger hero with broadhead arrow / savage shot / distracting shot is enough, but if you can't do that then bring Zho, who uses broadhead arrow as her elite (this dazes the boss, meaning that any hit will interrupt spells it is currently casting). Your party is probably mostly dieing in Savannah Heat. Hero / hench AI doesn't kite out of area of effect damage, and SH is guaranteed to kill anything that stands still in its area. If you see a health bar dropping dramatically, try to flag that party member to a different spot quickly.
Bring three heal / prots if you're worried about staying alive (2 hench monks and a hero).
