Greetings!

Maybe my question was already answered, sorry for that.

In the first post of this thread there is a link to the 100% uncovered Canthan map. There is a small island just a bit SW of the Monastery. Part of the island is uncovered. My question is: how you did this? There is no way I can reach that island.

Thanks.

Speak to the the guard of the monestary arena in monestary, and say you would like to go there.. BTW: you cant enter any batle with a lvl higher than 10 which i guess you have. But you can uncover the enter area, which i think i abount 0,2-0,3% or somthin like that.. Gl with it

It gave me 0,3% so thank you very much.

I couldn't enter the arena itself though because I am above 10th level. Does the PvP arena count towards the 100%?

Congratulations to Mesti Arcanus, Sureshot Kenny, TechnoSword, Kakumei, and SnipiousMax.

And remember, if you really want to thank me, rate the thread. ^_^

It does count, but you don't need to enter the battle area to get 100% you have a lot leave way.

Livingston, how active are you with this thread?

Meaning.. are you available to update your original post with better maps when presented with them?

[EDIT: Also, are you constantly updating YOUR map when you come across areas that you haven't uncovered? If so, can you post a screenshot of your unzoomed map?]

You need to post your maps to this thread, as stated in the OP.

I don't have time to check maps currently, but Leighwyn or someone else may be able to.

No it doesn't.

The last post I made was only 7 days ago, and the OP was last updated 4 days ago, and I have posted on every page since the thread started 2 months ago...

I check this thread every day, though I don't always have the time to respond.

At the moment I am working on two other guides in the Elonian section, and trying to actually get some play time in on Nightfall.

So yes I can update the OP and yes I will post better maps if you send me new ones and show me what they have that the old ones don't.

Yes I have been updating my own map, though I haven't posted the updates here, and I didn't want to get the Eredon exploit. And yes I can post the updated one zoomed out.

Though I will tell you that most people say the difference method doesn't work as well with Cantha as it does with Tyria and now Elona. But some people don't seem to have a problem with it.

Here are the links to the maps:

1024 x 768

1280 x 1024

1600 x 1200

Even if, for whatever reason, I become inactive, you can always PM here on the board and I will make whatever updates are needed, provided I have the time to do so.

Thanks Livingston

I use the difference method but I use it in a program that allows me to switch back and forth fast enough that, even in Cantha, I can catch flickering (as long as the clouds are aligned).

So let me ask you this question then....

If you keep your map updated, how come you don't replace the linked maps with yours?

There's missing areas in the linked maps.

BTW, the Eredon exploit is just getting your henchmen inside the town (while outside it) and using Recall to get past the warp zone.. right? When you get into the town under this method, does the gate to the special area disappear?

..and I was toying with the idea of just joining the alliance and getting in that way

Our maps are pretty similar. There's a couple of spots I want to investigate further, but I have to head out to work so that'll be later tonight.

However, I did spot this immediately...

Kaineng: "2-3. Make sure to hug the edges of the island as closely as possible - you can uncover some spots in the water that show as a "vertical line" glitch on the world map the way west edge of Dunes of Despair mission in Tyria does. The "U" map and zoomed-in overview map don't show this line."

This is the area west of the Brotherhood 'base'. When you uncover it, it shows up as a vertical line when unzoomed. You haven't uncovered that spot yet.

I've never actually used the difference method myself. To line the maps up do you just wait for the clouds to get near the same and then take a heap of rapid screenshots to get the one that lines up exactly or what?

As funny or slack as it may sound, I haven't actually looked at that map much since I got the title myself. Leighwyn's map was the most cleared one that I had access to when I made this thread, and I wasn't sure how much more he had cleared than I did, but since I hadn't cleared much more at that point than what I had cleared to get the title, I just assumed it was more clear than mine. Of course since I had then started to clear more, I did think there was a possibility that I had more than Leighwyn at some point, but I hadn't had the time to check. At one point Roadkill did a comparison between there maps and found a couple spots that Leighwyn was missing on his, and I was waiting for Leighwyn to get them and update the map, but he didn't seem to want to. I then tried to get Roadkill to send me his/her (sorry name's to ambiguous ;p) map, but the response I got was there was no point as Leighwyn was only a couple of points off. I also tried to get both of them to check my maps against there's, but they never responded to it in the thread. So I figured that the map I had up would be good enough until I could get around to comparing them myself.

Once I had completed making this thread, which took weeks of solid work, I began checking other people's maps on the other thread. This took up all my free time, including my time to actually play the game, as I would often have 3-5 people whose maps I had to check a day. I then started making rules for it as people weren't even really trying to go it themselves, as they were posting there maps when they only had about 80% of the map uncovered, and the areas they needed were always already circled here on this thread. There were people who needed other spots than what were on my map as well, but that was simply because they were missing massive amounts of the map.

So with the job of checking everyone's maps on the other post, as Leighwyn and Shyft quit doing so around that time and it was just me, I didn't have time to update maps on this thread, and I frankly didn't have much of a desire to with so many people simply posting their maps on the other thread at 80-90%.

I also kept Leighwyn's there as his is a map of U maps that are pasted together so it's one huge U map, which is pretty convient for comparisons. Of course I then found out that most people were using my maps anyway, the one's with the circles on them, even though I had advised against this, due to my circles covering areas they need to get or areas that indicate whether or not the circled areas have been cleared or not. So I had decided that I would just post my clean maps as well and tell them to use these, but I never got around to it.

And now I have my hands full with making the Elonian high end armor gallery and the Elonian Cartography guide, as well as trying to get some actual play time in. Which I haven't even had time to get one character through the starter island yet.

But yes I will update them for you since you asked. Which is pretty much what I was waiting for anyway. As I figured if no one asked, then no one really needed it...

Yeah that's how it's done, though I don't think it works anymore since the latest updates. I did do it myself with another character just to see how it was done and how much you could get.

Many people do simply join the guild to get it then leave. I won't do this mainly because I am a guild leader myself so I can't just join and leave, and I didn't want to get it through the exploit as that's not really an area that you can uncover under normal circumstances, and since I did have it in my mind that I would update the maps at some point, I didn't want that area included. Though I supposed I could just have circled it and said you have to join the guid to get it, but oh well. I did clear the area in Raisu Palace through the Necrotic travel, but I'll leave that to them to figure out how to get as it makes the title easier to get, and I believe it should be worked for.

I will definitely uncover anything on my map that you can point out that I haven't uncovered, as I was trying to do that before with Leighwyn and Shyft, and I'd really appreciate it.

I believe I know what spot you are talking about as Leighwyn mentions it on the OP I believe. Could you post a pic of it though, so I can make sure I know what you mean? I can also then include it in the OP for others.

Yes. It's not as difficult to do this as I thought it would be, since the clouds are able to form noticeable patterns. As long as someone makes their map shortly after hitting M it's easier to just do the alignment on MY map instead of having them do it on a specific time.

I can also teach you the process I use to do my comparisons. It's actually using video editing software to do the work. Everything is free.

.

I attached a crop of the area in question. It's west of the Marketplace and when you uncover it, you get the vertical line when zoomed out. The picture is not the best.

.

The whole reason I'm asking about updating the maps, and wanting to see yours and such, is that I suffer from the desire to have a 'true' 100% exploration for my character

Believe me I understand the need. I wanted that too until I realized that I would have to get guild access to uncover many of the areas...

So to get that spot I just have to hit the most NW spot in that base area?

I have a Tryian born character with the Tryian cartographer title and had all but given up hope of getting it in Cantha until I happened upon this guide and was rejuvenated in my quest. Before reading this guide I was at 99.3%. Last night I compared a couple of the “commonly missed area” maps and found .3% in an hour. The last .4% will be harder to come by due to the darkness of the map but I have faith that I will succeed. However I do have the monastery mapped out from the dragon festival events, so according to the guide I should have an easier time getting my 100% Thank you Livingston for putting this guide together it has and hopefully will continue to be very helpful.

I will continue to pursue this title when taking breaks from nightfall, but I have a few questions. If I am unable to find the last % on my own and need to submit screenshots in the other thread, does it matter how I divide the continent up? For instance, is there a preferred way to take screens of the island that make it better to compare, or as long as I get the whole island in various shots? I use a full windowed mode “U” map to compare and take screenshots, per suggestion of this guide. And in submitting those shots should I include a full zoomed out shot per the specifications listed (etc. 1024x768) just in case different people or helping out by using different methods?

Thanks for you time and your continued effort in helping people like me out. I am quite sure I would have never found that % last night or my future % for the title if it wasn’t for this guide. I humbly bow before you in appreciation and gratitude.
