^^ You're not alone. Of the three, Elona gave me the most problems, and I played through the game mapping as I went along.

I finally finished off Elona.. there's about 1-1.5% leeway allowed.

This also means I can finally submit my information for Elona mapping help.

Next stop, Eye of the North!

Download AviSynth, VirtualDub, TexMod, and the Mapping Mod made by Tiyuri.

Make a text script titled "whateveryouwant.avs" and in it, put this text:

(text start; do not put this in)

a = ImageSource("insert location and full name of 100% map here",end=0).Subtitle("baseline")

b = ImageSource("insert location and full name of non-100% map here",end=0)

c = overlay(b,a,mode="difference")

a + b + c

(text end; do not put this in)

Run Guild Wars with the mapping mod and take a 1024 screenshot of your map. Run VirtualDub and load the avs file (via OPEN VIDEO FILE) and go through the 3 screenshots and find your missing areas.

The concept is this...

You create as clean a screenshot as you can and compare it to a 100% screenshot made using the same process.

Using VirtualDub allows you to flip back and forth ALOT faster than any other program out there PLUS it allows a comparison to be made. Anything that shows up in a light blue/white color, in the third frame, is an area that has a discrepancy. You can then focus your eyes on that spot and go back to the two prior frames to determine if it's on the 100% map or yours.

Further, as you progress clearing areas, all you need to do is make a new screenshot and replace the file location in the avs file and hit F5 in VirtualDub to refresh the file load.

Quick and painless.

VirtualDub is the program used to do the comparison and picture viewing.

AviSynth is used to install the scripting language for the text file loaded into VirtualDub.

TexMod and the Mod is used to create the best screenshot possible.

If anyone finds spots that THEY have uncovered but I don't, please let me know.

I've completed Elona yesterday evening, and got GMC with it. Compared to Tyria and Cantha it was a walk in the park.

I've done all 3 continents without texmod, just used a 100% map on another pc to compare while I was exploring an area, just to be sure to have not missed anything.

Tyria is huge, and the difficulty is given by the fact that most of explorable territory is inside missions. The fog is sometimes difficult to distinguish.

Cantha is the worst, it's full of tricky spots, the fog is horrible, it becomes very easy if you are so lucky to enter JQ and Monastery Overlook, otherwise is a pain.

Elona is perfect, the fog is very clear and there are no strange spots, I did it very carefully after the Cantha experience but it's not required.
The only frustrating thing is the competitive mission, I spent one hour there and only 3 of 4 doors opened, was at 99.9% looking fot that damned 0.1% then I found a small corner inside the main area and boom

Asrial - I would like to try that method but being a totally untechnical i cant work it out. I have downloaded ok but when i try to run texmod nothing happens. I am unsure whether I have managed to unzip it as doing so creates a new folder with just the file cartogropher.tpf in it. Am I missing something?

That particular .zip should contain the .tpf file you mentioned and the TexMod executable itself (texmod.exe?).

The bit that confused me initially was AVISynth, as you don't actually do anything with it (it's not a program, rather a scripting language, I believe), but you MUST install it, otherwise the other progs and mods won't "synergise"

[Edit] - thanks, Asrial. Three hours with that mod and I went from 99.2% to 100% and Legendary Cartographer. This is an awesomely useful mod and technique that I would recommend to anyone.

Open TexMod and click on the large folder icon in the upper left. Browse to your GW.EXE file and double click it.

Click on the smaller folder icon in the middle and browse to CARTOGRAPHER.TPF (should be included in the zip with TexMod) and double click it.

Click the run button.

This will run Guild Wars with the TexMod modification in place, and when you look at your map, all unexplored areas will be green.

Don't worry, this isn't damaging or changing Guild Wars. If you want Guild Wars back to normal, just exit and run Guild Wars normally.

..and yes, AviSynth is JUST a scripting language (used for video editing, but it has other features as well). If you don't install AviSynth, VirtualDub won't know what to do with the .avs file you created.

Just got elonian gmc this week. My advice to those trying to get it is be extremely systimatic about it. Today/this week Istan, than all of Kourna etc. It also gives you inbetween goals so it seems a bit less massive a task.

Like this I went from 80 to 100% in two days without having to re-scrape anything. Be thurough, dont rush the areas or you will regret having to re-scrape alot of walls in search of the last few .1%

To close off I'd like to say good luck to all those going for the title, with patience and diligence you'll make it :-)

i have found 75% of the elonan map but i dot know where to look now. there s a place called the dymestic tombs and i have NO idea how to get to it. if someone could PLEASE help me out it would really be kwl.

and how do i get ot the town Dasher vestibule?!?!?!

Blink,

75% means you have A LOT more map to uncover. You will need to start off by going back and scraping the walls in each outpost and each area.

Some tips for you:

Use your keyboard movement to WALK along the walls. You will not find all the little nooks and crannies with mouse movement. And do WALK - don't run the 45 deg method - you will miss some spots.

Sometimes you will need to double back on yourself to open up a small area - and sometimes a small area is opened from a diagonal angle not directly from in front of the spot you want to open.

Also make sure you check that the middle of an area is completely unfogged - it's easy to get focussed on the wall hugging and forget the center of each area.

Another commonly missed area is the zone-in spot. Most times you zone into an area quite a bit into the area from the gate itself. When you zone in, go back to the gate and do the walls right up to the gate.

And don't forget to scrape the walls in each town and outpost.

last night i went all around thr bottom of kourner and i also did a large part of the top part of the desolation. i think i still have the dynestic crypts to do but i dnt know how to get there!? if someone oculd please help...it would be much oblidged.

in any case im on 82% now and i feel determind to get it all

This is absolutely ridiculous. I have 99.3% and there are such little parts of the world, it's incredible hard. It's unbelievable. Tyria and Cantha were incredibly easy compared to this. It's just stupid!!!

Thanks for the help Asrial and Snograt.

I hate to sound like a useless female but as I said am hopelessly untechnical........

I was quite proud of myself for finally realising that McAfee was quarantining texmod, and even prouder when I finally managed to bypass it (and the pc is still working).

but having got as far as working out what a text script is (I think), I am now getting
'sylia script error variable not found'
when i try to run virtual dub.

Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong?

my text reads....

a = ImageSource("C:\Documents and Settings\Petra\My Documents\My Pictures\1024-Elona 100%",end=0).Subtitle("baseline")

Take out the % on "1024-Elona 100%" (make sure to rename the picture itself too) and also add .jpg

Add .jpg to gw219

NOTE: this is assuming the two files are JPG files and not something else.
