Kook~NBK~: Very good tip about having inventory space. A full region mapping run will fill you up quick! If you want to maximize the profit from your exploration, start out with an empty inventory except for an ID kit and one or two salvage kits.

Mr_T_Bot: If you're having trouble with The Falls and haven't advanced to the later stages of the game yet, I'd leave it and return later. It's a dead end that takes a long time to explore. Wait until you have most of your elite skills and give it another try; you'll likely find it much easier than before. I can give some further advice for monks in particular (since that's mostly all I play): Go as a protection monk. Let Alesia handle the healing. Bring along condition removal spells and Protective Spirit. In general, I find exploring as a protector yields the best results for me. For my Factions explorations I've been using my own version of the Boon Protector build to do much of my exploration. This gives you both protection and healing - the best of both worlds.

Burton2000: I feel your pain. I recall Ice Dome being one of the most challenging locations to explore. After I finished slogging through with a -60DP, I vowed never to return to that God-forsaken place. I haven't yet broken my vow.

Total Rogue: Glad you liked the tips, and glad my map is helping you pick out spots to continue your exploration. Let us know when you get to 100%!

Yeah, one of my guildies mentioned that he thought it was just 'Explorable Area' marked zones. I haven't confirmed (by mapping out a new city and checking it), but I suspect he's right. That's pretty cool.

Having said that, I believe that they've arranged it so that anybody can get the minimum title (60), and maybe the 90% title. However, I believe that only natives can get the 100% title.

Tyrians cannot enter the two mission on Shing Jae (with the exception of some glitch a person claims to have found which I have not seen). This has an effect because both of the missions there turn into explorable areas after you complete them. Hence, those two explorable areas are off limits.

Canthans cannot enter any mission prior to Lion's Arch city (Gates of Kryta and prior), but since those msisions do not turn into explorable areas like the Canthan ones, I don't think this will present a problem. I was still able to get my Canthan to Ascalon City. Since people have pointed out that pre-searing does not count, I believe that Canthans can get 100% of Tyria mapped. The only question is whether Canthans ascend in the desert or not (I don't see why not, but who knows).

Also, for people, that were worried about the Foreign/Local mission. I did not see that it opens up to an explorable area afterwards, hence it probably does not count either. This should quell any fears of ppl not being able to map both. However, if you still want to map, then you can just run backwards from the local starting point (in-mission) to where the foreigners spawn. The foreigners of course will have both theirs and locals (since they meet up with the locals).

It is very interesting indeed :-).

I still have not cracked the code with the help of this guide and answers from many other threads related on this topic. I've been at 98.2% since the update of titles.

My first love in GW was running (note the clan), and second would probably be exploration. I feel I've probably hit more nooks and crannies than 99.9%-100% of others in all the zones, towns, and outposts of Tyria. My map looks more advanced (hard to tell at the zoomed out position) than everyone who has posted claiming to have 100% Master Catographer. If the above confirmations are not counted, I am totally lost on what it could be that I am missing: SF/UW/FOW/Pre/PvP/GvG/Zaishen/BattleIslesetc. I've also covered most of these, with the exception of some areas in UW.

In the OP it was also mentioned to hit "every red dot". This would mean that simply edging around the exteriors of all zones would not cut it; that you would have to cover every square inch with your feet. I just took my second warrior on another account and disproved that...I walked outside a town I had never been out of, and walked around the exterior walls. It brought my map up from 40.2% to 40.4%. I then walked into evveerrry spot in between the interior of my out-lined path and it remained at 40.4%. My warrior has gone above and beyond, done every mission/bonus/and quest in Tyria. I have no idea what I could be missing. Here's my map from the zoomed out position as well:

If anyone has any idea what it could be..lemme know.

Looking at your map, Brutaniu, the only thing that jumps out at me is that you're missing a bit of the Dunes bonus area (notice the absence of a "line" on the western edge of that area running N/S on your map. Unfortunately, I don't think that little area is going to account for your missing 1.8%. In fact, it probably won't count for anything: I didn't have that area mapped either when I got my title. I don't notice any other obvious differences between out maps, so I'm not sure what to tell you. It's possible that you're on the bad end of a bug. I hope that's not the case.

BTW, I didn't say you had to hit every red dot. My point with the dots is that they help give you an idea of where you've traveled, so use them as a guide to double check your progress and don't leave the region until you're finished mapping (they disappear when you leave, of course).

Soon being a half hour later.

@Witchblade: there's a hill slightly south of the north edge of what you have explored. That hill has a bridge to the other half of the area. Just explore the middle part and you'll find it.

Brutaniu, Borlis Pass northern perimeter looks at bit ghosty, as does Great North Wall area near the end (where you never usually go to, at the char camp). Hard for me to notice anything else with from a zoomed out map. I, myself, am still searching in vain for 2.3% more No visible differences from the 100% maps on here.

There's also another place in Northern Wall mission where you run back up where the Charr come at you from, other than what Leighwyn mentioned. About halfway to captain Calhann, a second group of Charr comes at you from a path from the west(to the right as you're running south). Run up that way past them, and there's another small area. Getting both of those areas got me another .3 or .4%.

I'm at 96.4% myself, and the only place I see any differences in my map compared to the two here is a small area in the northeast corner of Dreadnaught's, where the Seer is in the Abbadon's Mouth mission, and part of the bonus area of Frost Gate. Should be good for a total of maybe .6 or .7, but that leaves a good chunk missing still.

Anyways, good luck to everyone trying to fill in their maps, and congrats to everyone who's gotten 100% already!

the falls was a tad tricky; so i outlined where to go (when i first went there i ran back n forth 3 times before i saw it).
that having been said; i have more area explored than most of the maps supplied; and im at 87%...i have no idea where the hell you guys are finding it.
(i have explored EVERY single region there is; including the out fo the way ones like eastern frontier and dragons gullet; and when exploring them, i first outlined the outsides, and then explored the middle...so i missed nothing.
i really have no friggin clue where the heck to get the last 13%.

That means that I'm missing 9% of the map. For comparison, I did most of The Falls and all of Ice Floe (where Grotto is), which I'd skipped, and that netted me 4%.

That means that I'm missing the equivalent of two game areas - and there's just nothing left to explore. Maybe, if I cleared the last few corners in some mission areas, I could get to 91%.

So... Does FoW and UW (or even the defiled Tombs) count towards this percentage? I've hardly set foot in either FoW or UW, and never got beyond level 2 in defiled tombs, so that would explain it.
Dragon's Gallet? Or something like that, the big tar pits north of Ascalon City.

Brutaniu, there's quite a few bits you are missing in the northern and southern shiverpeaks. Small patches all along the borders. How I know? Simple (also, as a general tip for all others who are looking for the last few %):

1. Download one of the 100% maps posted here or in other threads (I think there's one in the first, big "Titles" thread over in Riverside that's very good). Save it to your harddisk.

2. Set your screen resolution in the game to the same res. as that map has. Take a screenshot of your own map.

So far so good, now you have two maps to campare, for the comparing:

3. Get yourself an image viewer program. I like Irfan View, but there sure are others that work just as well.

4. Copy your map and the 100% map into the same folder. Name them so, that they are listed directly one after another (i.e. tyria_map_complete.jpg and tyria_map_incomplete.jpg)

5. Load one of them into the image viewer.

6. Enter full screen mode (Irfan View: press "Enter")

7. Toggle between the two maps (in Irfan View use the "Left Arrow" and "Right Arrow" keys on your keyboard). Now you will instantly see exacly how much you're missing.

Well first of all try:
1:Riverside province, as soon as you go in walk backwards, theres 0.1% there
2.Griffon's mouth:I can't really see in the map but i think youre missing a part in the cave linking kryta and the shiverpeaks

you have to go over a log/tree to get to the area you missed. Just did this today. Just look for a path that leads up to this.

Some with 100% say you don't need all of dunes (because they don't)... others say you do. Is there a consenus that we can come to on this?

All I can say for sure is that I achieved 100% before completely exploring the Dunes bonus area. So either that area doesn't count or ANet gives you a little leeway on how much you need to clear to get the title.

For those of you coming up a few % points short, up your world maps to Imageshack and maybe the rest of us can see where you're missing.

I'm stuck at 94.x% atm and fast running out of areas to search. Hell i did Thunderhead Keeps, Ring of Fire, Abaddons Mouth (bonus') and Dunes of Despair (twice) using henchman just to explore all the area. Wandering around the area full of Imps in RoF using henchman is such a bitch with there crappy AI.

It all depends on which character you wanna explore it on i guess, i picked Ranger so the first thing i did when i realised i'd missed loads was stick running skills on and go for a stroll. I never even realised Twin Serpent Lake or Dry Top existed until then Dragons Gullet and The Falls got me a fair bit too that i missed.

Aye, Dragons Gullet is a huge area. I made me think there was a glitch on Shadow Strike too... it always seemed to steal health from me aswell as the damage regardless of whether or not i was below 50% health.

I'm qute sure it's the latter. You probably only need to complete around 99%-99.5% (which is shown as 100%, of course).

When I went to Dunes recently and explored that infamous area, my counter went up by 0.3%, so it definitely counts. Also, I have already discovered some other small patches that are missing on some people's maps who have 100% (north-west corner of Deldrimore Bowl and south-east corner of Frost Gate mission, for example).

Some may say it's silly that you don't have to clear 100% to get 100%, but think how frustrating it could become to find that very last bit... It's hard enough as it is.
