that damned quest: Protect The learned is frustrating me so much i want to break gw apart! How do you want to PROTECT 8 LEVEL 10 from 24 MARGONITES LVL 24 , they move in 3 groups of 8, and there are 2 of those groups! SO I NEED TO PROTECT NOOB SCHOLARS FROM THE ASSAULT OF 48 MARGONITES WTF?????? Yes i read wiki, but it dosent tell where are those *triggers* because even once i see their names appearing well, it's already TOO late, both charge like wammos! So where do i go to lure 1 group ?????

Agro both groups before they reach the scolars, margo groups fall down so fast it's pathetic really, did Jenur's Horde HM and had tripple margo grp agro several times, no problem really.

I'M getting a feeling someone here needs a more offensive (or defensive maybe) team build.

Bring ample wards, blinding, and other defense on your heroes. I find the monk henchies to be fine for the actual monking. Caster heroes, with hybrid builds, own face.

Be sure to read the gw.wiki. It correctly details how to selectively aggro the margonite groups. If you take your time, you can easily take down the waves.

Be sure you can do AoE damage (splinter barrage with my ranger made this nearly a cakewalk).

The "wrong" way to do this is to attempt to rush to the front doors of the castle and take on the full wave of margonites. I think a full human group with echo chaining maxed LB gaze *might* be able to do this... but I dunno.

I just want to know where are those hidden triggers, i read the wiki, but still don't understand, i think they explain that there is a way to make them move one by one(group) but i don't see where/how.

i had very long a nasty problem with that quest too, until I found out, that this quest has a nice way to make it really quite easy, without overaggroing any of the margonites ...

just talk with all the 8 scholars from down to upwards, wait then, until all are up, stay then also there, so that the quest starts and the margonites iwll appear, but just wait then 2 minutes and don#t move, to ensure, that you don't start any triggers, which let the margonites let move on...

then move with your heroes to either left or right side to the 1st stairs and NOT further.

Take into your group 1 MM and some Attack Ritualist Ghost to increase your group attack power and to be able to tank better, its naturally best, when you self go in, as ursan to block off margonites at corner points to receive all the aggro on you, so that the margonite won#t attack anyone else, then you and the surroundign minions that also body block them.

flag your heroes all at the upper end of the stair, set your ghosts at some tactical good points from where they can shoot safely at the margonites, hwiel you tank, THEN

you alone move carefully slowly forward the way long, holding com + alt to see the red letters of the margonitees, when they are near enough to activat their triggers (deactivate at options that shadow effect, to see them ever at full color power to don't get irritated by their range they are away from you)

When you can start seeing the red letters of the first group of margonites, move really carefully a bit further, until you will see, that those margonite group of like 6 margonites or so will start moving towards you.

THEN run back to your heroes ASAP and prepare ar the stairs for the coming fight, because the "lured" group of 12 groups of margonites will rush now all the way to you.
Block the margintes at the corner of the stairs off, ASAP,when you see them at the right point by smacking 1 lightbrigner gaze into their demonic faces, then go big nasty ursan and knock down the shit out of them ,while you watch 1 after another dieing and gettign surrounded by more and more minions (sabway) which explode at their sides and bleed/poison them all to nuke them all to hell back.

This all you repeat then on that side you decided first 6 TIMES..after that you change to the other side , place on the other sides stairs again your flagged heroes, set you ghosts and go lure 1 group of margos after another, after beating 1 group after another...

and you end up beatign all margonites without 1 scholar havign been died XD

Just my tiny bit of input. This quest is in fact broken, the mags are meant to come in waves, instead they all come at once in a massive zerg swarm. I once managed to kill one side, but could not get back in time to stop the other. You may have better luck with another player, hero + hench is hopeless.

In the end I just skipped this quest, wasn't worth the trouble.

Sorry if this was mentioned, not time to read entire thread, but when I did it (multiple times, I used to be crazy with doing all quests on all characters), it was bugged so you could win even if all scholars died.

AFAIK they've fixed that bug. The hardest part is being patient for each of the waves to come forward. Phoenix Tears has it pretty much the same as the wiki article. Absolutly if you aggro the mass, there's no good way to beat them.

Just be sure to alert the scholars in the order they are pinged since this will result in you being at the back of the temple when the margonites can start to spawn. Only other thing to remember is that you don't want to get too far forward - since that might lead to you being rezed at the shrine outside the temple - which is bad.

Geez I remember this quest. I hero/henched it but it took about 3-4 tries to do (this was before consumables, so I suggest first that you use those to make it easier)

I too had the problem where the margos would come in huge clumps instead of waves. iirc there's a res point right there, so I believe what I did was run ahead to figure out which side the giant cluster was coming from and meet them down way far away from the scholars. That way I either killed them or wiped and had enough time to res back by the scholars and try again. Lather rinse repeat. It's not easy but eventually you get lucky. Also, I used myself as a nuker, koss as tank, master as mm, sousouke as another nuker, 2 hench monks, and either 2 warr hench or 1 warr hench and 1 other, basically just bodies to keep the margos away from sousouke and I while we nuked.
