Maxine/Harn Coldstone
Just a quick check up question, folks. These two (The Human bosses in Peridion Rock that yield Quick Shot and Obsidian Flesh), alternate their spawns, correct? As in, if Maxine spawns, no Harn, if Harn spawns, no Maxine?
If so, well, I just watched Maxine spawn 27 successive times in the course of helping a guildmate attempt to cap Obsidian Flesh. Ouch.

I don't know much about your luck, but it's unlikely that you just fell victim to a 1 in 100 million chance.

That is supposedly a map of their path. Maybe they spawn on opposite sides and then both walk counterclockwise, staying apart from each other? I've never tried to cap from them, so I can't be sure.

Just double checked. Looks like It was definitely a streak of bad luck, believe it or not, as we just nailed it. They do alternate.
I'll leave what I've learned here in hopes it may help someone out. They head to the right side of the map first, away from the Ring of Fire. By slipping past the Hydra outside of Ember Light and blowing through two dryder patrols to the northeast, we were able to catch them pretty much every time near the northeasternmost arrow drawn on the map featured on Xennon's site. Maxine is easier to catch than Harn, as she frequently stops to drop spirits. Harn stops for nothing unless attacked.

Just a case of really, really bad luck. If Harn is there unfortunately his wife Maxine won't be.

I went with 7 hench to find obsid. flesh for an hour. The first time I tried, I somewhat followed the route, went clockwise, fought a while, and found maxine. I checked my map and saw that there was a faster, direct route straight there if I ran through hydras and flame dryders. I found Harn about the 6th time and died quickly from the mob of 30 following me. Ended up taking the long route and capping of Harn later though...
This method may work if you know exactly where... you run north (hydra path), then cut east for a while past dryders. You will see harn or maxine after about 2 mins of running

wow, took me 3 hours to get this cap. One of the details that I found misleading was the split north of the hydra's path. I thought you would take the left fork and up over two bridges to find the hero, turns out you take the right path that sends you below one of the bridges of the left fork. Hope this helps someone else looking for one of those two elites!

Well Maxine is definitely the "common" spawn then.
I am now on my 12th map of this zone and I have found Maxine every time. Never Harn.
As you leave Ember Light Camp, go up the right side where the Hydras are. At the first fork do not go hard right (which takes you around the southern rim) but move ahead and take the next right.
You will encounter some dryders and then come to a small lava pool. Take the left way past this small pool - kill 2 more dryders. As you pass the pool, hug the rock wall to your left - you will come out in a valley, with an elevated slope to your right (the east).
On the lower slope (to your left) will be Maxine every time. She will cast 2 spirits and then move off (roughly north). She is easier to kill coming from the OTHER way since you won't be chasing her - but you can find her using my method every time.
Good luck.
ADDED EDIT: And from the "You Only Believe It When You See it" Department, on my 13th time mapping into this zone I ran straight out to the spawn spot and found harn! Of course I got slaughtered by the aggro, but after resurrection I took my henchies the other way around the patrol route (going north from the Camp, but working my way from the west to the east) and on that steep slope that winds up around the big mountain before you get to the drakes, he walked right into us. Easy kill with 2 warrior henchies.
Thank you Harn!

Err..not really...for me..Harn definitely spawns more often. I took 3 days to finally cap Quickshot from Maxine and i almost gave up. So its actually a 50/50 chance on the whole.

I have farmed Perdition Rock probably 40 times. I have never seen Maxine. I have a minor theory that spawns are less likely if you use that class yourself. You would have to take a E/R to get a 50/50 chance. Or, I suppose a W/Mo or a N/Me could get either equally... But it also wouldn't matter to them.
Regardless, my W/R, my R/Mo and my N/R have never seen Maxine.

I've never had to go more than four trips to get the one I want.

Screw Perdition Rock when you have the skills available in Eye of the North now. And yes, I see when this thread was originally created.
Here is a boss that is easy to get to that has Ward Against Harm: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Spafrod_Iceblood
