I've seen this in the Northlands of Pre-Ascalon (screenshot below) and another in front of the fort at Nolani Academy mission. But I still have no definite answer as to what it even is... does anyone know?

One of my friends said it was called a Charr Cannon. Judging by the way it was oozing flames and aimed at the fort's doors like a siege weapon (in Nolani Academy mission), that made sense.

When I asked that friend about it later, he had no idea what I was talking about, and has no clue what this thing is anymore. What a memory lapse.

Searching the Wikis and Google also yields no answers.

So what is beautiful landmark of Charr terror? Charr lore and devices are always interesting to me.

It's a titan, as the ones you can see on Ring of Fire Isle Chain.

It's probably a charr effigy. A wiki search for "charr effigy" should land you whatever you need. :P

Wow, what a fast response. And after Wiki'ing those words more, looks like you're both a bit right... that's a titan effigy.

I remember going through pre thinking those looked very close to zerg. Only reason this kind of stuck for me was Arenanet developers came from Blizzard originally.
