Default help with gate of kryta mission

So, we're having a lot of trouble with the first Krytan mission (where you have to secure a place for the Ascalon refugees). When we get into the swamp area towards the end (after the beach stuff) we're totally overcome by the undead and all end up dying. My husband and I are warrior/ranger and a ranger/warrior and we're using the mage, healer, brawler, and fighter henchmen (plus we each have a pet). He's level 15 and I'm level 14. We've tried it about 7 times, and now it's just not fun anymore. We've tried coming around from the other side, heading them straight on, luring them out...strike and run....pretty much everything we can think of....
Any tips, tricks or ideas on how to get through this?! Thanks!!!

What campaigns do you have access to? If you have factions/nf try fighting to LA and going across to get max armor/heroes. I wouldnt recomend pets, because whilst they can soak up damage, they drain the healers energy and screw you over when they die. If all else fails, try and get someone with heroes to pug with you.

Even with out access to factions/nf, u could swap out the fighter hench & bring another healer hench. They way I looked at it, the team has too little heals (20% heals per team) I know bringing another heal would seem like an overkill but the team doesn't lack in the damage department (war & ranger human toons & dmg dealers).

Try to avoid using pets.

Pets are great IF you go the line of beastmaster (which means you got 9+ BM, 9+ primary [str/expertise], 9+ weapon [sword/axe/bow]). That however needs a few more levels, and is pretty difficult to play since you have to manage yourself and your pet (as if you control 2 characters at once).

Reason is that when your pet dies, all your skills are disabled for 8-ish seconds without any BM investment. That ruins all your damage output, making the mobs live longer (and thus making it harder for you instead of easier).

Also, try to let the warrior/ranger be the only melee (besides pets if you still decide you want them). That way, trough bodyblocking (standing in front of mobs) and running in first he can draw most of the attention (tanking, read the article on wiki.guildwars.com for information) making it easier for the monks to heal.
If he is the only that gets attacked, he can take 1-2 stances that have +X% chance to block attacks to help the monks in their job. It will lower the damage output of the team a bit, but it will give a lot more in terms of surviving.

I am betting its because you tend to form 2 mini groups you taking 2 henchmen and your partner the other 2 and with henchmen that's not bad that's very very bad.
The henchmen always follow orders orders from both of you, so if you go different paths attack different targets so will they changing each time you attack and mostly doing nothing.

Try this let one character lead and take all the henchmen they will now follow that persons lead and attack their target, then one character can initiate the attack and the second one follow that lead and make sure the rest of the party attacks the same target.

Use the flag to pin them in position while you lure targets to them a few at a time.
The second person can now operate independently and draw targets to the main force.

The Mission

The problem with the last piece of that mission is there is lots of poisoning I seem to remember.

Skeleton rangers that poison and swamp that poisons so both of you be prepared to cure poisoning or have 2 healers and pause to let them do their job and recover energy.

You have some backup for the second part of that mission these end up splitting into 2 groups I usually help one group on the right defeat the undead and I think a boss.

Then I go to the left and help there finally heading down a slope on the left.
Always finding decent ground to fight on without aggroing to many dead guys.

anyway pm me if your stuck and we will get it out the way.
Think I will go redo that mission and see if I can think of anything else.

Also, after you enter the swamp, take it slow, clear the right, then the left, then move into the swamp trying to stay on the lumps of land available to you.

My IGN Is Grenths Ire, pm me if you need to... in essence Henches aren't going to be able to pull their weight at the end of that mission... you need people.

Would disagree that you need people ,

I did this a few weeks ago with level 14 mesmer and a level 14 ranger all with hench on my other account

Once you spk to the guy after cutscene let him lead his troops with you as back up

When you enter the Swamp area go to hill on the right..stay there till you kill the enimies that approach that side ..then help the guys on left hill as will be only 1 guy left to kill

Go down the slope and stay out of the poision swamp remain on the path

Then go into area and take out closest enemy first .leave boss till last
