Default Vanquish Ice Floe HM

I seem to be having some problems here, even when taking 6 heroes... First I tried it with 6 Discord necroes. I went through the ice imps and the first Mursaat groups like butter but the Mursaat group with 8 eles and some Jade Bows owned me.

Then I swapped 2 necroes out for an interrupt Gwen (Tease, Power Drain, Cry of Frustration etc.) and a BHA ranger with interrupts. I normally play a Smite monk with AP and I changed that to a Prot monk (still with AP of course for the Discord spam) with some defense (EBSoC, Technobabble and Aegis) but then I got totally owned by even the first Mursaat group I encountered.

Hmmm. I guess I suck really bad. I am not too impressed with Gwen's interrupt abilites either. Having said that, I tried only a few times this morning before going to work so I have to give it some more time tonight. In the meantime - does anyone have a specific suggestion?

Did this fairly recently iirc we had:

Heroes:
VoR mesmer with Empathy & lots of interupts.
BHA ranger with epidemic.
Rayway monks x2 with some minor heals on em.
Jagged bones Min bomber.
WoH/Prot Monkeh.

Humans
WS Derv (Me)
(Something) Mes (Not entirely sure what bar he was running, possibly Ineptitude spam.)

We both took Pain Inverter and fired up an essence to get us rolling, but other than that I don't remember any real problems with the Vanquish.

Echoing Pain Inverter is a big help, especially if you have a minion army up. I Like Pie!

hmm, I did it recently wiht only H&H but it took some time. I ran a fairly standard discord set up but as monk I had some minor prots + Mark of death for the monks.

I thing I did to counter that horrible group of mursaat was tank, with prot spirit and run away...aggro..run away again so sometimes 1 leaves the group and you cna spike that one.. when only ~5-6 are left go tank and let do hero's do the job. rest of the Vq should be moderate to do, hadnt have many more problems

I hope my explanation helps

find someone with an imbagon. [there's nothing to fear]+[save yourselves]=90% dmg reduction. be careful though, can easily take the challenge and excitement out of ur game really quick if over abused ;-)

i used a full discord team ,myself was a warrior, btw i found ice floe to be one of the hardest areas to vanquish, compared to the others.

Default ice floe vanquish hardmode

hello,

Ice floe, just bring 2 mesmers heros, (standard energy surge with interupts, Vission of regrets, or teas, with a couple of interupts, also bring sabway mm necro, hechies monks, are sufficent for this mission, if you r not wa ranger, bring a lng bow for pulling, thats the main key to successes, if you want give me a holler online, usally play after 5 Pm eastern standard time, ingame name Gwendolyn Star.

Have not done this area yet, but one of the best tricks to difficult areas is to manual prot spirit and tank all the aggro. Do this by flagging your heroes back, body block with walls, pull, etc. With decent healers behind you with good e-management (like an E/Rt healer) you should be able to tank indefinitely.

I rolled the zone recently, myself a earth shaker warrior, my party a variant of discord/sabway (with fewer minions and more melee support, and a Communing N/rt with shelter annd union) and the henchmen. The key was knocklocking the monk(with earth shaker I hit the whole group of casters), ganking it hard and fast, using SY to defend the rest of the party from the mursaat eles while this happened, then kill Eles>Mesmer>necro>armors>bows. The problem with the eles is they have chain lightning, and if there's more then 1 they'll hurt your whole party for a lot, especially with the mesmers nuking with e-surge. A party wide damage reduction would help.

I wonder if a Barrage Ranger with a Necro using Mark of Pain, splinter weapon and spirit rift would help.. Then maybe wait for them to group together as they often do then hit them with Technobable to begin hostilities. You can run Sabway, equip the curses necro with MoP,splinter weapon spirt rift and what ever else you think will help. then you got all those minions doing damage. This should be massive AoE damage from only 4 of your party. if you can take 8 team members it should be a walk in the park. Maybe add a mind blast fire el the other 3 shouldn't matter much after that. if you're a warrior use Hundred Blades as your elite.
If you use that suggestion let me know how it works out.

Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up joining with someone else - both running a Discord team. We used some consumables and managed to pull it off.

Just did this area with duo discordway - it was a breeze, zero wipes. Me - SS, partner - AP caller. The only troublesome part was getting shutdown for 10 seconds in maelstrom, which really sucks

I've used sabway for almost every vanquish. Never really had any issues. But I didnt like using sabway here. It can be done yes. I just simply ran into a couple of issues.

Also with being bored with sabway, I came up with an interesting team build to which I might find extremely useful in other areas. I absolutely rolled in this area after a couple of test/tweaks.

Normally i dont take a ele hench but I took the mage hench, necro hench and the 2 monks.

My heros were 2 mesmers and a rit.

1st mesmer with sharded burden/sig of clumsiness/ conjure/ images/drain enchant/leech/mantra of lightning/res sig

2nd mesmer tease/power spike/cry/empathy/shame/guilt/mantra of lightning/ death pact sig.

Rit SoS/agony/destruction/ancestors rage/prot was kaoli/life/mantra of lightning/ death pact sig

On the Tease mesmer I only run 7+1 on her in inspiration. Then 14/15 domination. Tease is so nice it doesnt need anything higher than 8 in inspiration....imo.

One tip about the area. If you leave from grotto and go left towards the first mursaat. After you kill them....slowly move towards where the huge patrol of mursaat comes from. As soon as you can see one group coming towards you, back up out of sight range and wait for them to come to you. If you move up to engage them, there are 2 or 3 groups that patrol. If they start their patrol together they are extremely tough to beat and they dont ever appear to split up. Then repeat again.

If you think Ice Floe is hard, wait till you get to Ice Dome.

I used full discord team, no issues.
