Since when does Desecrate enchantments have life steal?

No, Spirit Bond does not protect against Shadow Damage. Just tested it out again to make sure.
what do u mean ,if u take more than 60 shadow dmg spirit bond will triger, and prot spirit does limit the dmg of desecrate/defile to 10% of it

I (Prot Monk) was there with a guildie (Grenth's Balance), 3 sabway heros and another monk, an interrupt ranger and I think an elementalist.

It took a while, but good lord, what a pain in the ass. Grenth's Balance by the way, didn't do shit. Rotscale I think has around 20k HP.

He doesn't strip, but his damage comes from Feast of Corruption (triggers life steal upon a hexed foe) and Desecrate enchants. Keep Prot Spirit on most of your group and you should live.

If anything, just barely like us.

Mini rant: Why does almost every thread that should be really named "I can't beat x in hard mode, please help me" have to be instead named "x in hard mode is impossible!!" Its obviously not impossible, or there would have been more then 1 person complaining about it since hard mode was introduced.

Now for some actual help: [skill]Broad Head Arrow[/skill] owns any and all casters. You will want 16 Marksmanship and a +33% daze bow to counter his half condition time, but you will be able to keep him dazed for about 95% of the time which is enough. Its a cakewalk when he can't cast spells. If you need 100% daze time take serpents quickness to lower recharge or use an essence of celerity or something.

Off topic: Is it just me, or is the reason tanking fails more because other people get in the way instead of just it being the tanks fault? What I mean is that lots of people don't realise that in order for the tank to do their job they have to back off themselves.

On topic: Basically just take skills that will allow you to keep him dazed and keep some type of melee on him.

Er.... I am probably wrong, but wouldn't pain inverter kill him?
(never fought him so I wouldn't know) I noticed he has deathly swarm. just clump together and when he uses it, (and if you are in a group of 8) he will lose around 640 health (since pain inverter only deals 80 dmg max)

Of course politely tell me if I am wrong

Just vanquished him yesterday.
Humans: BHA ranger, Spoil Victor necro, Healing monk (key: no enchantments)
Heroes: 2 Warriors, Meteor Shower Ele, Shelter/Union Rit (worthless), prot monk (helped a little)

Rotscale Spawn Point on island: Right side, middle.

Once we picked off the skeleton archers, necro used Vamp gaze on necrid horseman, pulled him to the waiting bunch of heroes. Ranger then stood on the stairs near the middle, picked a target, Necro hits the target with Spoil Victor. Once target is focused on ranger (being healed by monk on bridge), Ele is flagged in to drop MS on the target.

Rinse and repeat until all but rotscale remain.

Ranger then continues using BHA on Rotscale, necro spams Spoil Victor. Rotscale focuses non-spell attacks on monk but won't move as long as the monk doesn't move (has to be in that magic close-but-not-too-close range).

Once he's down to a sliver of health, release the heroes to take down the last bit of health.

Armor of Salvation and (if needed) Powerstones help, especially since it's more effective and less expensive than buying 2% boost at shrine, though it is worth it to recharge rez sigs.

It would... eventually. He has some 20k hitpoints. That means Pain Inverter has to trigger 250 times.

Hero/henched this today for Tyrian Vanquisher with my ele, using an unquestionably sub-par setup:

[skill]Spoil Victor[/skill][skill]Jaundiced Gaze[/skill][skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill][skill]Mark of Rodgort[/skill][skill]Glowing Gaze[/skill][skill]Meteor Shower[/skill][skill]Aura of Restoration[/skill][skill]Fire Attunement[/skill]

Got Rotscale to spawn on the left side of the island, so I was able to hide in the little nook to the left of the stairs. Meteor Shower hurt more than it helped, so I basically ended up killing things with Jaundiced Gaze spam, with degen and energy recovery via Mark of TROGDOR + Glowing Gaze (which apparently sets off the Mark when it hits).

I had my casters flagged on the bridge, and they missed their healing cues only twice - once when a Bone Dragon ran from MS and I auto-chased, leaving me open to a mass of attacks, and another time when Rotscale spiked me with Swarm + Feast just as Prot Spirit wore off. Things got a little dicey when SV stopped triggering; I sent Koss (W/N with Grenth's Balance and Plague Touch) in to finish Rotscale, but forgot that moving up the stairs spawns phantoms. Still, I was able to recover, and the next time I flagged Koss and Margrid (BHA + Epidemic interrupter, just to be sure ) forward, Rotscale fell.

No bow, though

When my guild team went after Rotscale in HM (we've still never done it in NM oddly enough) I ran an earth ele with churning earth, eruption, sandstorm; a ranger with winter and a combination of spike and interruption: a necro with spinal shivers, and I really dont remember what else...but it got the job done.

Rotscale uses Feast of corruption as an elite, which if interrupted cost him 15mp and takes 20 seconds to recharge, He will also try to spam malaise on your entire party, if you keep interrupting him you will drain his mp very quickly.

Also, I have not farmed Rotscale in quite some time but I remember being able to bring down DP by kneeling before the Balthazar Statue and paying somewhere around 100-500 gp for a blessing. The Statue is locate right next to the bridge. If You do this before your battle your party should all start with +10%.

I am sure there are others who will be able add more detail on specifics so keep an open ear!

Good luck.

... this is a very old thread, and the questions raised have been more than answered, but I have to say... please do not listen to the people who are suggesting that you bring no enchantments. An enemy using a powerful Defile/Desecrate Enchantments means more than ever that you need Prot Spirit, not that you should just try to mash Orison fast enough to keep up. Honestly...
