Default A few Mallyx questions...

My guild has finally taken to doing DoA, and about a dozen of us are up to Mallyx now. As one of WuWs unofficial Dunkoros, I've been thinking a bit on our tactics, specifically how we can deal with the Big Purple Primate without being gimped in taking on the freak-parade beforehand.

To that end, I've been reading old Mallyx threads, wiki discussions, etc... but most of them stop early 2008, and I've got a few contradictory assertions and rumors to consider, so if anyone knows for sure, I'd appreciate having them cleared up.

1) Diversion/Distracting Shot: Yes or no? One wiki says yes, one says no, forum poster experience seems equally varied.

2) Knockdown: Is Mallyx completely immune, mostly immune, or not immune (By mostly immune, I mean that he's considered "large" but can be knocked down with an Earthbind spirit's effect). He's not listed on the Wikia listing under the immune list. -- Answered: He's MOSTLY immune (earthbind makes him suffer knockdown)- Thanks, Ariena

3) (Rumor) Going after Mallyx without a weapon equipped will keep him from using Summoning Shadows. Does this work, or is it just an urban legend that only succeeds in gimping half the party? -- Latest status: Probably bollocks

Mallyx is alot is easier if you do the door trick. The last group that spawns is a group of titans to the east and margos that spawn up the hill. Kill the titans first then work on the margos. Once you get down to the last couple margos have someone run to the door and enter as soon as it starts coming up. Make sure ever skips the cut scene, if you do it right you can run out the door and fight mallyx outside of his room.

As far as a team build goes, plan on doing massive, condition-free/hex free damage to him. You can use conditions and hexes during the pre-mallyx fight but not agiants him. He uses monster skills that heal him when he has a condition/hex on. Also dont use enchantments either because he will strip and tele the person will the enchantments.

If you want to spank the monkey super fast bring a mesmer with wastrels worry @ 17 dom. Mallyx is considered a boss and thus has boss resistance. A good time for mallyx is 10-15 minutes.

I thought they fixed that glitch like two years ago.

Yeah, the trick is to get a team build that can take him on in that style, but survive 18 waves before him. You forgot to mention that every time he strips an enchant, the entire party gets a skill disabled for 6 sec...

You could have several people bring [Gaze of Fury], destroy his spirits, destroy them again when he respawns them, and fight Mallyx from the top of the stairs. Mallyx is a punk without his spirits.

Use skills that he doesn't lolwutpwn. Weapon of Warding is great for blocking, Tryptophan Signet is great overall, and defensive spirits work wonders.

As for your three questions, I can only answer #2. He is immune to knockdown except when Earthbind is up.

As i understand, that started during ursan days when people would attack away losing 2 en due to the spirits and losing ursan. I'm fairly certain it has no effect on his usage of skills, unles its a bug or something.

The gate trick still works, if it doesn't for you then likely either the runner wasn't in fast enough or someone didn't skip the cutscene fast enough.

Hrm. The gate trick still works(not that we know how...) well, I'll put that aside for desperate times. He *can* be beaten without glitching or Ursan, as SMS has proven, so I'm going to keep working towards that goal.

Just need the disabling question now... thanks for the info.

If you want to fight him in the room, bring gaze of fury for the spirits. You can take out the spirits really fast. I feel pretty confident in saying he can't be interrupted.

Two Gaze of Fury for the spirits to his immediate left and right, at least one interrupt to deal with Unyielding Anguish. The outside spirits, damage when moving and 50 damage whenever you block, can be removed once the Gaze of Fury have recharged.

In all honesty the waves you fight before Mallyx are harder than him, provided you don't foolishly hit him with conditions and hexes while also limiting the number of enchantments being thrown around.

Yeah, Gaze is already in the spare slots in two of the char builds I'm drafting.

You've got the most straight-on exp with monkeyboy, so I'll ask you directly: in your experience, can his skills be disabled?

We never ran any skills that could disable. Initially we used Savage Shot and Distracting Blow as our interrupts, neither of which would increase the recharge time on the skills. From what I recall reading from other attempts by other people any skills that disable do so for less than their stated amount.

Ok, thanks. Now I think I've got all the info I need to work up this team build.

Tbh disable the skills not really worth it now i run 2 people 6 heros build we use everything ya not ment to by that i mean conditions for mallyx and enchants in the room.
But we sit and fight in the room and still complete it in 15 Mins the trick is being a few gaze of furys for the spirits in the back of the room and have a para as a real person.

A guild member and I used the Doa Mallyx Heroway build although I modified the build that made it go much smoother. Mallyx was very easy to beat, we used no hexes, no conditions, no enchants and no human paragon. 2 Monks and six heroes brought him down with no problems!

I may have to do something like that. After all my work and a few failed attempts, the group opted to break up for the night (it was 0330h). I went to bed, they did another run with the door trick without me. Now I have to either wait for them all to redo DoA or find a Ranger+Ele+6H build. (Ele is the other player who didn't go)

Bastards...

The 'Door Trick' is alive and well. A guild member and I made another run through DOA, this time it only took 57 seconds for 2 Monks and 6 Heroes to kill Mallyx.
