Default Under rated and most abused builds

I started this thread for the purpose for people to state what they feel are the most under rated builds (ie. unique or not commonly used builds that are useful as well as the over abused builds). Granted many people feel the W/M build is probably most abused build but there are many types of W/M builds. I am all for risk and uniqueness when it comes to trying to make a different build even though it might not be most popular or successful. Of course you have to create some basic chars to get started IMO, but eventually I want to try a range of things. Feel free to post your thoughts, complain, whatever floats your boat.

Hands down, the most over used build has got to be W/Mo. I would hope no one would argue that, and if you do....God save us all.

I think now as the game progresses, more people are going to make different types of unique character builds just becuae they are tired of all the Warriors. I for one, am tired of the all the Warriors. (I even have one myself ).

That is why I am currently making a R/Me. It may not be the easy beginner friendly Hack 'n' Slasher, but this class actually involves skill like most of the other characters.

Sorry Warrior....you dont require skill.

Warrior requires skill, don't know what kind you're playing!

I play a W/N, I'm a good Monk Sniper. I agree that W/Mo are overused.

I'm level 18 so far, though. My next char, that I already start, is a Mesmer/Ranger.

I recently made a W/Mo simply for purpose that I haven't ever made one even during BWE's. I figured what the heck why not try it. I debated on W/N or W/Mo and decided to do monk for healing purposes for myself and party as well as probably better farming possibilities later. My main char N/Me is very fun I love doing damage using Blood/Death spells. I'm also in process of E/Me. Get tired of just one char so I try diff ones. Maybe one day I'll stick to one or go back to nec/me to get him 20 since I'm close.

i never played any betas and started the game off as r/e. now that i hit 20 a couple days ago and wutnot, i had a w/mo i started a while back, and have suped it up real nice :P the reason i went back to it was because i found a real nice gold max dmg gladius, and instead of selling, i was like, why not use? haha so yea, thats my story. i think i wanna start a mo/w though.

Underrated:

Mo/Wa (Fighter w/ Sword)
R/Wa (Fighter w/ Sword/Hammer) <--Playing a R/Wa with Sword by myself
Ele/Wa (Earth Magic and Hammers = OMG WTF)

Can't figure out any other "rare" builds....I saw a couple of W/Ele's using artifacts and cast fire-spells tho...weird but well

Im making a Mesmer/ele and its like lvl 8 but so far its really good.
You got fast cast with the high damage of elementalists

Also Warrior/Monk suck in the areana the curses destroy them and its to slow to cast heal before it dies in like 10 seconds

Are you serious? I know a ton of N/M players. Very common.
N/W is less common, but not unheard of. I'd even say R/W is common enough - I haven't seen W/R though, that I can recall. The Expertise is more helpful to warriors than the strength is to a ranger, and without expertise the ranger abilities would be too pricey for most warriors.

just about any build with ranger primary is underratted. literally, people see a ranger and are like "lolol n00bs ownt gg no re"

this is for good reason, though, not many ranger builds are effective as the abused wa/mo.

besides wa/mo, just about any monk primary is somewhat abused cus they are all the same: word of healing 4tw.

My first character was a W/Mo. I found him very boring and not quite that effective. I like the warrior part so i decided to build W/E which is a little more fun. Hes going for Str/Sword/Fire build.

For god's sake, I see this all the time. N/M is not a build. N/Mo or N/Me are. I see N/Me all the time, while N/Mo are a little less common. I don't see too many E/W though.

The most under used (I am not sure about under rated) build I see is Me/anything. I am not sure if it's the low AL, the fact their skills have little VISUAL effect on a battle, or that fruity-tootie River Dance that is putting people off of playing a Mesmer.

Okay, I personally like W/Monks. My primary character is one. I really like him. He's a strength/sword/smite/protect, swithl ike one point in helaing. I love tanking, don't know why. Makes me feel important. I started a new character today, a Ranger. I'm liking him so far. He will probably be a R/N. The idea of having about 10 minions at once is to much for me not to try...:K

I really like my W/R. Having a wolf by my side helps me deal some extra damage, put on a bleed and he can take quite a few shots for me with Call of Protection. The only downside to this build is you can't tank unless you have a healer watching you closely.
I also made a E/Mo. Great combination and I can usually do a fairly good job keeping people healed. Energy Storage really helps for the monk skills.

I agree with that. I'm a R/E myself and the only way I can get PUGs for missions is to start one myself. It's really terrible. Rangers are a lot better than people give them credit for.

I agree as I am a R/E myself. Although, the downsides that I've noticed are:

1. Pets are killed pretty quickly in a a squirmish when you've totally over-estimated your party's abilities vs enemies (for example, charr at the North Wall or beyond The Breach). Then you have the joy of going back and trying to fetch/heal your pet without it and you getting killed. As a noob, I've never figured out a way out of this one. Other than no pets

2. Does not take direct attacks well--especially if you don't have earth armor skill yet.

I agree that Rangers are seriously underrated - just look at all the "why do Rangers suck?" threads on this forum.

I've played so far as Ranger, Warrior and Elementalist, and by far Ranger is the more challenging build, since you have to keep track of so many elements of gameplay at once to be any good at it. I think they're disparaged in PUGs because their contribution is subtle (ie, not very visible physically) and supportive. If a ranger in a group is doing their job, then EVERYONE else on the team should be having an easier time of it.

Personally, I play as a R/W and see that occasionally, but not as much as other R/combos (ie, R/N or R/Me).

W/Me

Not many of us, but a few. Here's my build:

12 Illusion Magic
11 Tactics (Major Tactics Rune)
9 Swordsmanship (Minor Rune)
Major Vigor Rune
Minor Absorbtion Rune

Skills:

Illusionary Weaponry
Illusion of Weakness
Healing Signet
Rez Signet
Shield Stance
Defensive Stance
Flurry
Distracting Blow

Basically just an Illusionary Warrior build, but not as a Mesmer main. Therefore I can still take the hits, deal the damage, etc. The only downside to this is a lack of energy, but if you play your cards correct you'll have no problems at all.

With this build I can put any W/Mo to shame, hands down.

I played a W/Me and although I liked the versatility, I could not win many fights playing him as I didn't do enough damage that someone could simply heal out of and any of the good Me spells are high energy cost (10 or more)
I prefer 5 energy spells and stuff so I switched my guy to W/E and I am a terror on the battle field.

With all my adrenal skills, Hamstring (or if another team mate is supplying the slow, a damage ability like power strike), pure strike, Battle Frenzy, and Conjure (your favorite element here)
With a 15-22 +10% dmg while enchanted (elemental dmg hilt of the same type of conjure)
I love to prepare with my conjure buff then run up to my prey, hamstring him (if he's not already), use pure strike and then battle frenzy and gain all my adrenal skills while all this is happening I'm dealing massive damage to my opponent with my increased attack speed + increased elemental damage, then I just unload all my adrenal skills on my opponent then throw in my energy attacks to finish him off.

Most of the time this kills my enemy if not severely cripples. It's a very good build but only awesome if you have a good healer or two and someone who could partially disable the target.

I'm thinking about going Hammer/Air and with the Increased knockdown time gloves I think I could permanantly keep my target on the ground...
Maybe a E/W would be better to do this but the loss of the strength attribute would decrease my damage.

10 Hammer
10 Element
10 Energy Storage?
