give me an example.

Damage- Elementalist and warrior both beat ranger

While a ranger can do many different things, the other classes can just choose a secondary to supplement their primary skills.

You need to focus on 3, no more than 4 attributes. A good distribution is 11:10:10 or 11:9:8:8.

..... not wanting to side on mercuries team, but:

Healing.... Healing spring for rangers...500 health over 10 seconds... monks.... heal area... about 200 with df aoe in 2 second.

Spike: ele.... erm just take a lightening orb.....83 damage.... ranger.... erm some of the largest ive come across (limited ranger experience) is conjure, kindle, duel shot, greater conflag, which is about 70 a hit... but its half your skill bar.

Interrupt: ranger.... distracting shot....+20 second cooldown and maybe 1/2 second airtime.... mesmer... diversion 50 second extra cooldown no airtime

Rangers dont suck. Ive maintained that they are underpowered due to their jack of all trade nature, but ive not really considered jack of all trade to be a use. Its personal opinion really.

Ensign, the purpose I see myself serving in GvG is working with a r/e to off the casters as quickly and painlessly as possible. Casters(ele, nec, mes) come first, then monk. The melees are not our concern at this point. I want to deal as much dmg as I can as quickly as possible, I want to be able to rez casters if they are dead(paladins too busy slashing away to rez), and I want to have atLeast one def stance if the time comes...I have just about every skill, any recommendations? If your not a ranger, just dont give me advice about what you dont know, thanks.

You are spreading your point’s way to thin for one thin . I have a level 20 RA/ME currently doing Hells Predicable I also have a level 16 monk so I know just a little about that.

What you’re trying to do I would not personally do but trying to keep what you trying to do in mind.

9 Expert +1 rune = 10
10 Marksman + 2 run and mask = 13
9 Wilderness survival +1 rune = 10
8 points into healing

These are your attacking skills

1) Penetrating Attack- the best attack I think 20% armor penetration
2) Ride the wind- adds damage and in PvP you need it to hit moving targets.
3) Poison (elite)- this can be changed up. I don’t always use it do to it is an "elite" you can use hunters shot here and chose another elite soem where else.
4) Lightning reflexives – Lets you attack 33% faster

For defense
5) Whirling defense is what I say is the best / throw dirt is good but not as good a whirling defense

For killing that caster

6)distracting shot – Don’t leave home without it one of the best if not the best ranger skills

Healing

7) Healing breeze I guess it s better than troll urgent do to cast time
8) Rebirth

You need at least 10 in expertise I would put more personally at higher level expertise is just so much better. I hope this is of some help.

Mesmer burden spells are not better than pin down. Pin down lasts longer and does more damage (for me) if arrow hits. Dot(damage over time)...Why would a ranger use more than one, if any dot spells? This is a stupid comparison. Deny energy. Never heard of that one, maybe your talking about Debilitating shot? Even if you are DS, has a one second refresh time, Im sure inspiration line(sp?) is much longer. Damage..Warrior does not beat a ranger in damage, your retarded. Elementalist, why are you comparing only damage here? What about health. I do close to the amount of damage an ele does. I can also withstand a fireball though. Once again, an illogical comparison. of course, everyone can do a few things better than a ranger. But we can do alot of things better than you. For the variation, the ability to tank (stances and throw dirt), and many other reasons, the ranger is one of, if not the best SUPPORT class. Guildwars is about teamwork and matchmaking. If you have a group of just Wars and Monks, you wont win. The oddman out that everyone loathes in the group, is probably doing his job correctly, and might even be doing it better than you. So stop the debate on whether or not rangers suck or dont suck. We are here to stay, and when the expansions come, (just as in Everquest and other MMORPGs) rangers just might surpass elementalists in dps(damage per second).

BTW thank you bigb, I usually use debilitating shot over distracting in PvP. I will see how distracting works. Thanks for fb
