Default Question about Arena Experience...

I'll go right out and say that I'm a newbie when it comes to PvP. I've only played a few MMORPGs, and in the other ones, I lagged to much to worry about PvP. Maybe that's why I like the PvE aspect of this game so much, but anyway, on to the topic. Just had to get my newbieness about PvP out there.

Now, this could be because my team wasn't that great, but we went up against a team of 3 Rangers and a Monk/Warrior. All the rangers did was poison us, and then the Mo/W hacked all four members of my team up with a sword. I saw it was using hamstring...could have been using Mending as well, not sure. Is there a build that's really good for this? Can a monk really tank well? I'm just curious as to how the monk did this

IMO it was the poison from the 3 rangers that did the brunt of the damage. Also depending on where you were, he might have cast smiting or some other damage enchancement. Another important factor was his weapon and sword skill. Protection monks can tank a little bit, espically if they have some tactics from the warrior, but that's not their thing.

No, a Monk can't tank well. A monk can have 60 armor and either +5 elemental or +10 physical, at the very most. A warrior can have 20-30 points of armor more, plus possibly damage reduction. In addition, a monk would have to give up a focus and wand, or staff for a shield and sword, points into tactics to use the shield, and points in swordmanship to use the sword, greatly reducing his capacity to heal. So, he'll have worse armor and damage than a warrior, won't have his original healing capacity, and in addition, since he's a monk, he'll still get targeted first.

It's definitely possible to make a sword using Mo/W damage dealer, but he won't tank well, compared to a warrior.
