Default Lack of ward usage

I'm pretty surprised, that given the extremely strong nature of wards, that people are not using them more in tombs. Is the 'most people are idiots' response going to answer this effectively, are people too concerned outgriefing others with their ultra spirit spam build, or is there actually a reason to not abuse these spells? Few teams I see have even one guy with a single ward and that person rarely drops it.

I'm going with the former, but I'd be interested to see what people's reasons are for not using them.

Not really, it's just that wards require elementalists, and most modern builds now rather just scrap wards for stuff like spirits and stuff. Wards are great, and won't ever be considered obsolete, but their not something that can fit with every build, specially Guild Lord gankers.

No real counter to a ward besides making opponent not want to be within it. Their effect is good, but requires a fairly specific set of skills to really take advantage of. I am kinda surprised that there are not more ward/protection e/mo running around. Sure offense would be extremly limited, but i think that would be largely offset from a good defensive build able to protect most, if not all, of the group 24/7.

Umm, are you stuck in like, yesterville? Everyone in tombs was doing the air ele/wards/bond/healing ball thing, thing is, people got smart, used natures renewel, aoe degen, and all that other stuff, heck even smiting, which really killed the point of wards.

Wards are still great, but with the new builds, it'll take the more skilled players to use them effectively still against the new trends.

Wards are still great even with all the ritual spam. There's no way to really push anyone out of a chained ward radius without losing an energy battle. Go into International Team Arena and test out some of the Aoe spells on wards, you'll find out some surprising things.

Well I play Earth Elementalist or Protection Monk with wards but it ends up that once they find out my Ele isnt an air build they kick me or the tell me to switch skills.

The funniest thing is that most people think that they know why your build sucks and you should take theirs. Especially now with the spike teams coming up wards kick ass, my Guild always wins their fight by just waiting for the Ele team to run out of Energy. Then kill them with the warrior knockdowns.

Most ppl are totally unware of build sets untill everyone uses it which is really sad. I hope that upon this forum there is not a ward ele overflow in GW :-)

I see pretty much any decent team using wards. The teams that give me the most trouble are usually chaining all kinds of wards. Most that don't end up getting steamrolled.

This isn't saying that not using wards = defeat, just that most decent teams put wards to use.

Yes they are, but it takes alot of coordination and skill to pull off, which like I said in the previous post, most people don't have. Having to deal with people who spam spirits far away, or things like maelstorm or bal aura, some people just can't handle it in the circle.

An interesting use of wards I saw just the other day, was a W/E hammer warrior that would pick a target then drop "Ward Against Foes" on top of it to snare it. Any attempt to run got hit with what was either Bull's Charge or Bulls Strike. Then he'd just keep knocking em down so they couldn't make it out of the ward. I've seen casters use wards against warriors, but not warriors use them against casters. It was pretty effective.

thats one of the less known but effective use of WaM. Taht kind of thing is better in GvG though, but sets up an Area of Control that can lead to some incredibly devestating shit.

I have a Mo/E setup that uses earth magic. I generally carry ward against melee and earth armor so that when I'm rushed by warriors they all stand around me wiffing as I laugh at them. Eventually they get frustrated and leave or my ward wears off.
