Owen, Jelloblimp and Everous thanks for your replies, you actually helped unlike these "omfg n00b" types that seem to curse all forums these days. Im going to restart with an Ele/something to get a damage dealer until im with a guild that actually team plays when I can use my necro again.

I started as Ele/Messner (and used only ele fire skills, no mes skills untill I got Arcane Echo and concentratied on being a Fire Mage (Pyro). You will be getting most of you fire skills earily in the game so I would pump your attributes into Engery and Fire. You will have the most magic points with this combo.

Later in the game you will get other spells, Cold, Earth, Air.

Being a nuker is fun and you do a lot of damage, your weakness will be being rushed directly or Messners / Rangers intruptnig your skills but a good party will protect you and your usually considered 2nd on the kill / protect list next to the monk.

huh. Well I guess pure burst damage is one way to do it, kill before the monks have a chance to react. Playing energy drainer isn't very satisfying gameplay either. You let rip with the shots, you sit back, and...you don't see a whole lot...its not very interactive. As for lines, you should definately start with fire PvPing. Later on you can use Air for single target burst damage, water for utility (along with trident to fill the gaps), earth for buffing and PBAoE.

Ele's are usually third on the kill list. Behind Mesmers and Ele, especially if you're running in a build with quite a few of them in. Necros sometimes feature higher than those two also, so it depends on whats going on at the time. As for secondary, mesmer is always nice for added damage, energy management from Inspiration can let you squeeze out a few more attacks, Water Trident works very well with arcane echo...Earth?...earth is a multifunctional line...depends a lot on what you wanna do...if pure protection is your game, you can become a very nice protection monk as earth primary (some people disagree...but hey...)

Akimbo Dude, we were all nOObs once, so I won't say it....

But you were a bit harsh, misinformed (about drops esp.) and then suggested someone else was pointless

I'd advise you to get through the game w/ your Ranger / Necro or whatever, then work on a second character

Distracting Shot and Mark of Subversion are all you need to shut down healing mobs at least up until Ascension.

My First character was a necro/ranger

First off, don't use a pet, in a N/R build it limits you way too much on skill selection.

Use curses and blood magic with some points into marksmanship for a decent bow, thats it. Soul reaping and everythiong else can come later after you have more points to spread around and play with to find YOUR favorite style.

Weaken armor, mark of pain(as soon as you can get it), suffering and vampiric gaze are this characters best friends

Lead with weaken armor then mark of pain for area dmg when you hit then suffering for area degen, then start plunking them with your bow.

With alesia doing most the healing and stefan charging your target and hitting the weakened armor and the mark of pain doing extra dmg to all targets in a small area you can take out mobs of enemies rather quickly.

I think you can't get mark of pain and suffering till Yak's Bend, but don't worry, carry a decent energy + staff to cast with before a fight then switch to a bow, while casting use life siphon on 2/3 targets to get you a decent regen for a good bit of time going. And swap to bow and plunk em dead.

Hope this helps/gives you some ideas.

Allthough I met and fought a few quite good necros. But none of them dealed direct damage. They stacked DoTs, they raised Minions, they weakend our defense, they supported their team... But the direct damage output was weak.

Dark Aura, Touch of Agony, Dark Pact
Dark Aura doesn't deal that much damage. Remember you loose health yourself... Which can be quite irratating. You need to take this into your consideration. Also a Necro normally doesn't stand next to an enemy... And too much sacrif can be very bad.

Touch Of Agony and Dark Pact are quite a good skill, but you cannot spam them. You loose 10% health and you will take damage, so your monk won't like you if you spamed them

It is quite nice if you use it every now and then to struck many enemies at once and maybe to kill one enemy, but all the sacrify stop you from spamming it.

Against heavily armoured foes my blood necromancer does a large percentage of the damage
But normally the heavy armored foes are the last one to target.

I believe Necros are very good at supporting, stacking DoTs, etc. but for direct Damage, I think they are not that good. For nearly every damage dealing skill you need to sacrify health... If the other team is smart, they will spot you and easily kill you when you are low on health...
