As far as im aware Zealots is self casting ... I could be wrong.

Im yet to be convinced of a good Mo/R 20 build keep trying guys .... I sooo want this to work. FYI I had a group of 3 Mo/R at lvl 9 - 10. and we owned in the low lvl pvp arena

13 consec wins, about 1/3 of them flawless. (well i thought that was good anyway)

Not to mention I see a duplicate Barrage there.

I'm sober, btw.

My guess is he's probably playing TheoryCraft, going off of the skill listings. Ferocious Strike isn't marked as elite in the GW Guru listings. That, or he's going off of beta, when the skill probably wasn't elite.

So is there any one that can PM me a good build for Mo/R or should I just dump it all together and go Mo/W ....... or Mo/Mes (like every one else seems to be doing for pvp) due to energy focus.

pets can be used nicely for interupting, do a search for pet builds. there are some good ideas posted.

I'm taking a Mesmer/Ranger through the game now. After Quarrel Falls, you only need a pet every so often. Whereas having that meatshield was great at first, it requires more thought now on how to use the pet. I personally think a Mesmer/Ranger or Ranger/Mesmer is awesome, but you lose out on energy because you need a bow to use some ranger skills. Still, 30 energy is more than plenty to serve as a competent interrupt/shutdown mesmer. I'd never handicap a group by bringing the pet at this point, but if I run with henchies or go farming solo, the pet is always there.

Obviously this is my PvE opinion. For PvP, I like mostly full Mesmer and maybe have a bow in the second slot for the one or two Ranger skills I bring. Those two ranger skills may just be Charm Animal and Comfort Animal if my group directs me to shutdown the opposing mesmer (We hate things meleeing us).

My pet is the master at tanking. Able to take on 10 Level 2 Minotaurs AT ONCE! (And yes, I did test it. I just couldn't find 11 Minos to do it) In PVE, pets are devastating. Look at the skills and look at which ones you think are best. Try getting a mask with +1 to beast mastery and then adding a superior rune to it. Your pet should do a great amount of damage and, when using your pet skills wisely, your pet will be a force that Glint will fear. Just use your imagination . (And yes, I did go through the whole game with my pet and input several /bug s about how pets are not teleported during cutscenes.

I use a R/Me beastmaster as one of my chars for random arenas. Basically just because people never expect to have their ass handed to them by a big ugly lizard. It is a PvE char, so mesmer "was" used, but I've completely dumped all the mesmer skills and use all pet skills, save for a couple ranger bow skills. Basically, I am the interrupter, with pin down, savage shot and concussion shot. I use pet skills for knockdown, bleed, powershot one that does more damage when under 50% (sorry cant remember name of it). Then a heal and charm. The gist of it is to pin the target down, make him bleed, hit him with concussion shot and just ping him a lot, remember you and your pet are now hitting him so dazed is kicked off nearly constantly. If he tries to cast, knock him down etc... with high BM, the pet does a lot more damage than you would think.

I use my pet in everything (Save UW trap grous, where I actually enjoy devoting everything to Wilderness). I have gotten quite a few compliments in my time. However, I do not need anyone to tell me whether Pets are good or not. Sometimes, it is only the player who can tell how well they perform. Ask any necro - in most teams, nobody is wowed by them, nobody gives them praise or thanks "or wow, you saved us at the last moment!", but any Necro worth his salt will tell you he contributed to the fight just as much as anyone else have.
I've seen people use templates get close to winning HoH, does that mean templates are still viable in combat just because some pros used them screwing around?

Fact is, in order for the pet to be good, you need to go as far as gimping your own character completely out. Add in the fact that the pet has a dumb AI, and that screwing you and the pet is alot easier then just screwing you if you are an actual threat, and you just got a combination that doesn't mix.

Look at pets, in order to even have bare minimum requirements, you need charm animal, and comfort animal. That's 2 skill slots gone right off the bat. Now, in order to make them useful, you'll need some moves. You only have 6 slots left. This isn't warcraft 3, your ranger does not have godly hp like a beastmaster, nor can he summon more then one pet.

What about AI? Let's say a warrior traps in his own teamate. That's his fault right? What can he do about it? MOVE. What about a pet? How do you tell the pet to move? Oh right, you have to somehow target someone else and tell him to bite. Can you use a warrior to body block? Yes. Can you use a pet to body block? No.

Pets are like Troll Ungeant, their cool to have, and have spiffy effects. But true efficiency in PVP? Your joking right?

The biggest thing pets have going for them is interrupting, and even then you have moves like disrupting shot and savage shot, coupled with the fact that pets can't spam debil shot, and you basically have everything that pets can give, except one gets owned by ward vs melee, and the other doesn't.

I found that rather funny

But yeah at their current level pets are just not worth it in pvp. Your main character may as well fire a bow and pull off crap dps if your pet is going to be useful and then basically you have a weaker warrior who is about as controllable as that newb who tries to rambo and aggro every mob he can see.

On the other hand, if they ever make it so that you could control the pet to the point where it's like a RTS game (warcraft 3), it'd make pets far superior then warriors in alot of aspects. The ability to body block, flank, low energy usage moves, and a move that is literally AOE tigers fury and charge for pets with a 30 second duration all rolled up into one?

That's the problem with the pet design, allow micro usage with them, and you got RTS players like Rival.Showtime coming in owning PVP making warriors obsolete, you make it too gimp like right now, and no one wants it. That's most likely why their hesitant to change it, that and it wouldn't be newbie friendly.

my main character is one of those rare Mark+BM Ranger
i have about 12-13 in BM, 15 in Mark, about 6-7 in Expertise and a little in Healing just because i have extra points
here is the thing
why do you bring Comfort animal to PvP?
it is not needed because by the time the pet dies it has already done its job and you need to recharge for 8 more seconds too, so just bring your Charm with you and expect it to die
for the pet i have the +25% speed skill and the bleeding attack skill(sorry i never remember their names)
i used to bring the -12 damage skill for the pet but i found that the bear i have rarely dies anyway
i have poison arrow myself and i have my bear the bleeding skill,as far as i can tell it is distracting casters a hell lot with my distractive shot
not to mention the 10 seconds of Tiger Fury i have
with 15 mark i can deal pretty good damage to casters, without skill about 40-60, with my the precise shot you can deal about 75-85 1 shot i think
and the pet deals a lot of damage at the same time too
the only problem is that i have a poor energy management and do run into problem
if that ever happens though i just save all energy for tiger fury and poison, using the tiger fury basically gives you like a 20-30% damage boost if you think about it
after much experiment myself
i found pets are good only you have at least 11-12 BM
for those who think they are bad in PvE, u just need to know how to use them with the landscape
but i admit that at the end of the game you are better off without the pet in PvE and bring some healin with you
i am still experimenting with the build but i will not give up the pet for sure
i see rangers using traps but as far as i see traps deals a lot of damage and distraction but rarely kill you, whereas the pet can actually kill someone, and of course trap doesnt move too
