Default 100% cold battle for GvG???

Just out of curiosity...can u guys give your opinoins about this GvG tactic?

Get a Ranger with GC and Winter so ALL physical and elemental damage = cold damage. (exluding Holy, etc)

Now, RANGER will have highest Ele defense, so should be R/Me combo with Mantra of Cold for even better DEF, then cast Storm Chaser to gain 1-4 Energy per hit from attacks...

Well, how does this sound? Warriors...sorry about your luck...even if you ARE on the same team as caster.

I guess that's the only downside to this for your own team...

Anyways...can u guys give me ways to BREAK or Expose any weakness in this tactic...if you were the oposing team of this attack strategy...

Mantra of Frost, don't be ridiculous, Mantra of Flame is many times better. Secondly, its been done. Third, you're going to have little offense, and that isn't good in GvG. This type of tactic originally started in Tombs since there you can get away with no damage on certain maps, including the main one...

This is a decent tactic, though I've seen it work much better with just ranger-heavy teams and having the other characters with mesmer secondary for Mantra of Frost or Elemental Resistance.

A couple weaknesses- the effect of Winter and Greater Conflaguration depend on what order they are cast- in order for physical damage to be converted to cold, you have to have greater conflaguration take effect before Winter. It's generally better to just bring GC and utilize skills to boost elemental defense as a whole, such as Elemental Resistance. This does hinge around having GC active though, so all the enemy has to do is kill/disrupt the GC, and you've got a slew of useless skills.

Storm Chaser and Mantra of Frost won't work together- they're both stances, so as soon as you activate one, the other is removed.

Overall, this can be workable if you can keep your spirits up, but they are your weakness here, and you're hinging several skills on your team, including at least one of your elite slots in order to gain an advantage that can be taken away by an enemy team who has a warrior take a few attacks to kill the spirits.

Really, with most Eles using anti-air and anti-fire armor, cold damage seems to be the best way to go now O.o (When it comes to armor)

Once NR is fixed, many people will start going back to vs Cold Armor since Water Magic is going to run wild again.

NR does reduce alot of strategies =/ Without hexes or enchantments, you cant play around much with mesmers, necros and monks =/ Of course these will run rampant if there is nothing to keep them in check. So I hope Anet can find a middle ground for NR.

hm..
is this true? do you have to keep order? or won't it automaticly adjust the damage when the GC hits the floor? that sounds more plausible to me...but if you are certain the order really makes difference...

Order of casting GC and Winter does not matter.

this is one of the tactics that has been beaten to death earlier ... the CG + Winter combo plus cold armor ... you will have higher armor than many others ... but you still have to have more damage output to win. Just having more armor wont give you the win. Just an advantage. Smart teams will likely just wipe the winter spirit. Also peeps were mentioning that when NR gets fixed ... ??? ... if it gets fixed ... the healing ball will be back ... and water but the ball will be more rampant.
