Funny though. Corpse explosion is the new Spike. Death magic is useless my arse. I love watching guild wars trends. Almuch as I like watching th HP graph when putrid and Edge of extinction are going off

Default Death magic is useless TO the useless.

Minions are weak? I agree with that.
Soul Reaping weak? I say depends, it works when teammates die too.

I was studying a viable minion monster build in pvp and outside the 'sacrifice own team many times at start' to make like 15+ minions, there are VERY limited options on what a necro of death can do.

I came up with a N/E build that knows it can't do damage so instead it ignores armor through DoT, which hurts EVERYONE ^_^

This build was designed to kill members on BOTH teams, though it hurts enemy teammates more. [if one of your teammates has fragility, let them know you've got virulence too.]

stats: 10+1 soul reaping, 10+2 death magic, 11 earth magic

Virulence {E}
Animate Bone Minions
Death Nova
Taste of Death
Plague Touch
Armor of Earth
Eruption
Glyph of Lesser Energy

Funny when a warrior gets tanked by this build. Of course enchant rippers walk through me like a bulldozer but in 4v4 or random arena, it's cool. I'd never want to use this in 8v8 due to zoning issues on certain maps. The fact that most people I've fought simply stand in eruption is quite funny. "Eruption is a shitty spell! I'll kill they guy who casts it later..." BOOM, Virulence {E}. Now we have a poisoned/diseased/weakness/blind enemy. Too bad Eruption takes 30s. to recast but that's what my fast recycle pvp weapon 2ndary is for.

Have to run in close with this build though, Thank Goodness for Armor of Earth punching my AL past a warrior's armor by far.

the best way to make necros work in PvP is to take it as a secondary class, because the more useful necro skills are support based. having the primary attribute of soul reaping is imo unreliable in pvp. by the time bodies are dropping, you should already be winning; soul reaping only contributes to the steam roll effect once you are winning (or dying, but i don't see how soul reaping can turn the tides at this point). it's probably better to be an elementalist primary and use necro skills so you can cast more spells due to having a higher energy pool.

A lot of people dismiss Necros in PvP. A lot of people also ask the question how do you make a necro in PvP work. Every character class has a job. Monks heal. Warriors are meat shields. Ele's are high damage. Mesmers are anti magic and defence. Rangers are support. And guess what. Necros are also support, and probably the best support character in the game. NECROS ARE'NT DAMAGE DEALERS SO STOP TRYING TO MAKE THEM INTO ONE. This is how it works.

Blood is Power {E} - Use this on your monk. For 10 secs he gains 3 - 5 energy. Your side is a winner already. Energt cost 5. 1/4 cast time. No recharge. Cast this on two monks in quick succession if needs be.

Instead of that spell for an elite you can take Sould Least instead. This spell will help your team be able to drop an enemy monk in seconds. For 10 seconds whenever target foe casts a spell (such as the monk trying to heal himself) you steal 67 health. You can stack this with Defile Flesh for even more effectivness. If you take this instead of Blood is Power then you can take Blood Ritual which is the non elite version of Blood is Power.

Blood well - PvP at higher levels is 8v8. Someone will die. People are going to die. Most people dont realise how plentifull corpses are in 8v8. Blood well will give all your team (providing they stand in it) +5 regen. This can make the difference between your team all be killed or being the winning side. This skill is overlooked in PvP. (As are necros might I add. Especially in HoH) Note that blood well is not a hex. Every team member recieves +5 (or even more) which can not be cancelled or removed.

Taking Rotting flesh can also be great. As well as any other spell that adds a negative condition to a target, Enfeeble or Enfeebling blood are good ones with this strategy. This is really only effective if you go a secondary messmer and take epidemic. By using the right necro skills you can send +8 health degen to a target and then epidemic that target to spread it around to others near by enemies. A lot of people might say "Yeah but 4 or 8 arrows of degen on high lvl characters isn't that great. Note that this post is all about how necros are for support. 4 or 8 arrows of degen on a called target that is also being pounded will drop quicker. You can also use the skill chillblains followed by plague sending. And if you can spread these conditions to all other targets using epidemic (note the disease spreads on its own) the enemy monks are gonna be wasting time and energy healing and or curing everyone. It all adds up.

If you have any points in curses then Mark of Pain is great. Cast this on whoever your warrior is attacking. Adjacent foes take 34 shadow damage. SO SO GOOD. If there are 2 warriors attack the same target then that foe is taking 68 damage extra with every hit for 30 seconds. If there is a ranger dealing physical damage as well then all adjacent foes will be taking 102 damage pretty much every second.

I play a full on air ele which is my 1st and main character so my views on necros aren't biased. It's from experience of playing with good necros. Every team should have a good necro who uses necros for what there good at. (Not dealing damage.)

Two words: Putrid Explosion. This nifty little skill is often the skill that can determine who wins hall of heros. When you have 2 necros going at it spaming that button like no tomarrow and those little green rings hitting everything around them from 100-126. What attribute is this deadly little spell? Death Magic. Blood magic in my humble opinion is only good for PvE and PvP (4v4)

How can you spam Putrid Explosion? Can't you only cast it once for every corpse. Someone dies, you cast Putrid to deal 100-126 damage, great. Now what. You have to wait for another corpse, that might not even be in range of another enemy to deal the damage. I would rather cast an 18 second area heal.

Putrid is great for altar matches situations where there are crowds. It's fast, low in energy cost, and does a lot of damage.

But u still need a corps to cast it once. 108 damage isn't gonna be enough to kill anyone else. Thats about a fifth of someones total health. And what happpens if the enemy team has a necro of their own and casts a well on that corpse first. Whats better for altar matches is when everyone takes at least one AoE spell and co-ordinate the attack. Firstorm, Meteor Shower, Maeltstrom, Chaos Storm. The necro would be better off taking Well of Suffering. So here u have in total 58 damage a second for 10 seconds (giving a total of 580 damage to everyone)plus the strikes from metoer shower which does 91 damage per hit and the -4 degen over 18 seconds from Well of Suffering. All of this from casting one spell each in a single moment. It's all about good team work and planning. Not about one uber spell that really doesn't cut it on it's own.
