Default Tengu Caromi Elites Guide: Including Movie !

Because I just had a private message from someone I thought I might as well post the thing I wanted to send him here. He asked me where the Tengu Caromi Elites are I like to farm, but since they're hard to fight I'd made a small guide. Here it is:

NOTE: The Caromi Elites aren't strong at all, but I'm not sure every build is great against them. It should be possible to kill these with other builds, but I did this with a Monk/Warrior, something like my build is explained on this page:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=32980
This is nearly my build, the only difference is that I, because I always have 15% Death Penalty after the first group I encouter, use no focus item. This reduces your life to 31, and that makes the Caromi Elites only deal 1 Dmg, which is very good and makes you nearly impossible to beat with Healing Breeze on. You can switch back to the -50 Health focus after you lost most of your Death Penalty again.

First I want to tell you why I farm Caromi Elites. The Caromi Elites drop rate is really high, they drop lots of Puple and Gold items, but the Dmg on weapons isn't high, since these monsters aren't high lvl, this is especially for Rune farming, but I find nice items with upgrades as well.
The Caromi Elites are outside Riverside Province. There are about 4 groups there you should kill (there are more, but it's faster to just kill these 4 groups). You should avoid the Bog Skales and Mergoyles (unless you think you can beat them) and just kill the Caromi Elites. You should start with 1 group at a time, but later you can fight 2 or 3 groups at a time. The first group you'll encounter when you walk out of Riverside Province is a really big group of Bog Skales and Mergoyles, you can let yourself be killed by them (unless you think you can beat them) since you'll be ressurected somewhere past that group. After that a group of Caromi Elites will get towards you, so if you need time for casting enchantments you will need to get yourself into the water where you have more then enough time to get your enchantments up (here's a picture of the exact spot). After that the same Caromi Elites will come towards you again, but this time you can take them out. At the same time another Caromi Elite group will come at you from the back, if you can't take 2 groups at one time, try to lure the first group away from the second one, if you can take them both just stay where you are. When the 2 groups are dead continue at the left side of the river, there will be a third group. If you think you can take out 3 groups at one time, you can also lure the first 2 groups to this group and take them out. The final group is a short walk from here, continue walking on this side of the river untill you'll see a bridge, there should be a last group here, it's highly possible that there will be Bog Skales and Mergoyles on this road, if so, you should start over (unless you think you can beat them). If you think you can take out 4 groups at on time, you can also lure the first 3 groups to this group and take them out (screenshot of 4 groups getting killed).

I hope this helped you and good luck with finding great items !

I've just made a movie where you can see me killing 4 groups of Caromi Elites. I hope you like it, here it is:
http://www.picapic.net/media/GRBZJ23
It's a 5MB movie, so take your time downloading it if your speed isn't that great

I don't think they're all botting. or that there are any at all, most people don't really walk like botters (since botters walk in straight lines and never stop walking). But I don't think these will be unnerfed for long anyway, the drops are way to good for such easy enemies

Meh, when you do it 100x over, it looks like you're botting unless you're really not paying attention.

The Tengu at Twin Serpents got nerfed awhile back. They were awesome for gold drops then; not very good anymore, but still decent for purples.

Its been there for over a month, the drop rate already got a nerf, it used to be unbelievable a gold or two every run, it lasted about 2 days, then the rate reduced significantly. Its a pity you put it up on the forum though.

Well I farmed 2 gold armors in one run, 1 gold in the next and 6 or 7 in a day (which was about 2-3 hours of farming there). Not too bad, especially because I got some decent minor runes (swordsmanship, energy storage, monk runes) as well which you can sell for quite some cash

I'd say it's still one of the better places to hunt runes and pretty easy to do so.

Caromi Elites are easy... they used to be good, but they were nerfed badly. Still decent enough though!

Well, if they're nerfed, they aren't nerfed that badly. The drops are still great, and I guess the best drops I've seen in a long time. I'll try Ettins some times, never tried them, but I like Tengu, it's so cool to kill a group of 20 in just 20 seconds

Ettins are good in that they drop a lot of Purple and Gold runes, BUT the runes are the same runes over and over again, Memser runes that aren't worth 3 digit figures.

Still seems like farming grawl would be much better. Similiar drops, more of them in an area, and better experience.

After yet another blueprint and map, don't worry it soon will be.

Why people still continue to post up this info is beyond me. We know that they "nerf" things, we know they don't like people exploiting areas. If you really want someone to know EMAIL them. Why the need to make it public? is the fleeting attention for being "the man" worth having a spot going from dropping 5-7 golds a run to a bunch of white items not worth picking up really worth it?

If Anet wasn't fixing exploits continuously I would say anything, but they have done it and continue to do it. Pretty soon the only thing to
"farm" will be crawl outside Ascalon. (oops I just ruined that spot too)

Well, currently I cant farm these tengus so Ettins are my choice. When I farmed them for the first time, I had like 4 gold armor drops and quite a few purple. Man was I happy when I got a superior healing prayers. But after a few more farming runs, began to get less gold armor drops, a few purple and mostly blue, gold, harden humps, regular armor(salvages into tanned hide squares about 4-8 for each), ettin hides, crappy weapons and other useless items. So I guess this is how nerfing is supposed to work? Keep farming the same area over and over and the quality of drops become worser.

I guess I have to find a way to farm those tengus or find other monsters.

Everyone knows this, and I'm not a complete idiot. If ANet is planning on nerfing this (even further) they would've done it anyway, since about 100 people are doing this run already, and I'm sure ANet noticed that Riverside was lagging like hell the past few days.

It was nothing personal, but I have finished the game with 3 toons, and on my way with the fourth. I don't like PvP and only play t if I am REALLY bored.

SO my excitement comes from going out and having 12-15 monsters surrounding me, and having them all die at once in a flash of yellow numbers, and then seeing gold and purple items all over the ground. I get the rush from seeing what the mod is going to be. Not even what it is worth anymore. I have sold and spammed so much stuff in game that it is nuts.

I have many perfect wepons and upgrades sitting in my storage that I don't know what to do with them. Ultimately I think my plan is to give them to guys who join my guild. I don't even sell anymore. I have had guys pestering me in game for days wanting to buy some stuff I have shown on here.

It isn't always about the money. It is basically the only excitment left in the game. So going into spots and collecting 30 griffon wings or salvaging 300 planks of wood or 200 ingots just sux. I like iding something and seeing cool mods. To me that is what makes me keep playing. I have done every mission and every bonus with 2 of my characters, have explored I think all the maps with at least one of them. So everything else is redundant.

I am just ranting, but until the new expansion comes outthere isn't much left for me to get out of the game but my exploring for cool weapons.I don't really want to stop, because as most know, once you stop it isn't nearly as fun when you go back to it.
