Default Mesmer/Necro Shutdown

Shutdown Mesmer Necro

Attribute Points:

Skills:
Energy Drain (E)
Energy Tap

Wondering if you guys have any comments or suggestions for it. It does good for shutting down single targets (or 2 if you're good)

Don't use Mind Wrack...awful, awful skill.

A Mesmer primary would be legions better than a Necro primary at this also. Solely for runes...and Fast-cast isn't a bad thing either

Shutting down a single target is not a useful class. If that's all you can do, you've achieved only a stalemate, likely less, since they probably will be able to do something; shutting down/disrupting multiple targets is a must in order for the build to be worthwhile.

Some suggested skills since I don't feel like typing any more at the moment:
Signet of Weariness, Drain Enchantment

He did post a mesmer primary, and the build he posted could easily shutdown 2 targets.

I presume soul reaping 9 = fast casting 9.

oops, im meant necro/mesmer.

I found that soul reaping works wonders in HoH because of the frequent deaths. When spirits die, they all give u energy. Fast cast is alright, but having unlimited mana is a million times better.

Why is mind wrack a bad skill? You can drop your targets while draining them which saves time in HoH where time is very important.

Couple reasons really:

Unreliable damage. If the target has zero energy, you have to wait until they gain at least 1 and then fall (or get drained) back to zero before it triggers.

Also, as White Designs said, dedicating one character to shut down one character isn't worth doing, as the game then turns into a 7v7 with some silliness going on on the side. To get a lot out of Mind Wrack (lol?), you'd have to drain them down low enough for one more drain to do it, cast Wrack, drain, let em regen, wrack, drain. Blah. This is stupid. You'd be better off to stick another energy denial skill in there and work on two monks. Ex: Power Leak, Arcane Echo, Sig. of Weariness, Leech Sig, etc.

Using a Mesmer primary will be much more effective. You can thieve enough energy to maintain it.

Maybe mind wrack does suck.

But I can easily shutdown 2 monks in HoH with this build. I'm thinking of replacing mind wrack with energy burn. Basically, you E Drain your first target and you divert, use signet of humility and malaise on your second target.

With Quickening Zephyr down, you don't need your mesmer primary. The E Drain and E tap recharge fast enough for you to syphon mana. Soul Reaping works wonders also because theres deaths everywhere in HoH.

The way I see it is you maintain your energy with your drains and when you're starting to run out of energy, people start dropping for your soul reaping to kick in.

shutdown only ?

get mesmer primary
bout 10 in fast casting
15 -> 16 in domination
rest in inspiration

get power block and some other interrupts and drains. maybe backfire but that'll get disenchanted neways sucks on casters though.
or arcane thievery shuts down healing on most W/mo's who are stupid and only bring healing breeze.

Malaise is suicidal as you dont have a way to gain back the health like life siphon or life transer, or some other regen...
