Default I love the random arena

Of course not for all the warrior monks that try to heal with 2 energy regen, and of course they fail.

But I love it a lot because you see a LOT of different skills being used there.
Noone cares for your class, barely anyone cared if theres ANY monk in your random team.
Noone has to fear an overusage of air elementalists, natures renewal or knocking down, of course its being used, but noone thinks its the only build to be there.
You can try to use only 2 attributes, but its barely a good idea, flexibility is superior there, i like that.
And so this is the place were you can be whatever you want to be.

Another even simpler reason why i love the random arena is, that necromancers are just owning it, mostly because warriors are kinda brainless and they do not need a monk at all.

Lets make a topic here:
I believe the random arena has far more intelligent player-builds in it than the tombs.

The only difference between the random arena and elsewhere is that there's no obligation to prepare a cohesive team before hand.

Instead of having everyone strive to synergize better, it brings everyone down to the same level of disorder.

People are just as bad as anywhere else either.

"OMG MONK WITH BOW? KTHXBAI"
XXX has left the game

"OMG MONK HEAL ME"
-"I told you I'm a smiter ..."

"REZ REZ REZ! DIDN'T YOU BRING REZ IDIOT?"
"WHY DON'T YOU NUBS LEARN TO BRING REZ SIGNET, IT"S THE MOST IMPORTANT SKILL"
*scrolls up a couple of lines*
Self- I'm using Resurrection Signet on _____!
Other teammate- I'm using Resurrection Signet on _____!
OTHER teammate- I'm using Resurrection Signet on _____!

Instead of using various team gimmicks, a vast majority just bring single player enchant gimmicks, or one trick pony combos.

Every other battle has an ether renewal smiter, every 4th battle has a fragility mesmer, every 16th battle has someone trying to use spirits in a random team.

And so on and so forth.
Different rules, same concept.

The griping, the popular combos, the drawing on the radar, the random profanity and obscene statements, it's there wherever you go.

I like the random arena because it's difficult to find a team that WILL synergize, and that's it. By picking a place where the competition is in the same boat as I am, it's a more even challenge.

Oddly enough, I've gone further with random arena teams than with team arena teams for the most part. One random arena team went on for a large number of team arena wins, until we faced Idiot Savants and died after a good long fight, which actually probably wasn't so much as good, but long, seeing as we never managed to take any of them down.

Edit- And believe it or not, I haven't played a smiter monk in the arena in ages. It's just familiar ground that I see regularly anyway.

In general I find random arena to be full of self-important jerks and nubs. The few skilled players that are trying out builds to be later used in TA are vastly outnumbered.

And that's why I want a 1v1 arena or sparring area in guild halls.

Personally I love the random arenas because my rank 1 w/mo isn't exactly getting into many tombs groups. Better than trying PUGs at the ToA because the waiting is 30 seconds tops before an opposing party is ready.

Hmm, I would have to disagree since most of the players I come across in arena are brainless idiots.

OH THE HUMANITY!!!

At any rate, I have to agree with both Eonwe and the OP...

There are plenty of idiots but they're everywhere both in team, and random, and hoh, and well, can't have good players without morons to compensate [and make them look good too ^_^]

I like Random Arena as well because of the utter chaos. The only thing I don't like is when teammates leave due to not randomly having a monk. I've torn through 4 teams once, each of them had a monk, one of them had two, the fact is having a smart mes/nec with anti-healing capability was quite good.

Better to be more offensive, sometimes...... SOMETIMES..... evil laugh*

I like random PvP because it's quick, and I like that there are no spirit groups (yes, I'm one of THOSE players who wants Nature's elited).

I find that every group I get into either completely owns its way to Team Arenas or gets owned outright, though. It's the rare group I find myself in that wins 2-9 matches, or so it seems.

As for the intelligence of the players, I have to disagree with Ollj. I find that there are WAY more neubs in random PvP than in Tombs. (But maybe that's because I only play in tombs voice groups?)

I like Random too, partly because of the craziness, partly because of the lack of Nature's.

And you can do all sorts of crazy stuff, and get away with it. One of mine:

Stone Daggers
Stoning
Enervating Charge
Armor of Earth
Earth Attune
Aura of Restoration
Ether Renewal
Quickening Zephyr (!)

they are quite common in arena. but i guess they are more for triggering ether renewal than doing damage.

for such spammers a backfire works great. normally they press the buttons so fast that they'll cast 1 or 2 times with backfire on that's really nice.

God, I hate it when people bring Quickening Zephyr from my OWN team, it throws me off.

I saw "No fear of an over-usage of air eles." That is completely wrong. The other day I fought a team with 4 air eles. Since we had a heal monk on our team, and no way to stop the incoming damage. We lost pretty fast

Then there was a smiter spamming orison and vigourous spirit. Sadly I of course got the idea to charge him resulting in my death, after the battle I tried to tell him that symbol of wrath wasn't any good. Got cursed out and ignored

Hm...I think I saw an air ele a few times.

I threw on Mark of Protection and just ran at him. Of course, I still take a bit of damage but nothing really to scratch my 600 hp.

And those smiter monks, in my first PvP ever, we had a great necro, and he rended like 6 enchantments away from the monk. He was low on health and overkilled himself, but it was fun to see that monk die in one galrath slash from myself.
I swear though, most arena builds are messed up versions of the premade templates, which we all know mostly suck.

I think I've gotten away with some retarted ranger using stoning with poison arrow and no synergy in my skills.

Of course, there are some good builds, I got raped by a fragility build, I didn't even know what happened. I just saw a lot of -36's on my character and I was dead.

Arena is very very unpredictable.

Random arenas is a whole lot fun, slow faction, but definitely fun and unpredictable. Yes there are those little kids who ruin the occassional game with their utter immaturity, but I've also had really good, even monkless teams. One monkless team I was on actually took down a Drok's team arena group!

No NR is awesome because I get to use Backfire... oh how it gets those elementalists and necromancers... Trick is to distract them a bit with other stuff, then once they start chain casting, make the drop on them. Make sure you're not their target, otherwsie they'll see you casting it. I managed to kill a full health fire ele with it once even before I had kindle prepped...it was funny LOL

/agree with Sofia, the best part of Random is when your monkless team gets bumped up to Teams and still continues to win games . That's the best, and then when you lose, everybody gets added to each others' friends lists....

The main thing I don't like about Random is how teams with 2 monks on them are nearly unbeatable there. Nearly.

By unbeatable, do you mean unkillable? Depending on who the last two chars are in the group, they likely won't have enough DPS to drop a one monk team. Especially if the one monk team is something like an EMo smiter, a KD/AS war and a mez.

I usually play random arena to test out stuff or practice, so I couldn't care less if my team doesn't like having quickening zephyr dropped by me. I could even go sofar as hide and hope my team dies just so i can test out some invulnerabilty build

If I actually played to win in random arena I would just bring a E/Mo smiter, usually get 5+ flawlesses until some mesmer with a clue shows up. It's funny when your team of w/mo n00bs says "we rock", "this team is great" etc

Only thing that really pisses me off is when a bunch of mindless sword W/Mo premade noobs in robo-idiot-plate-with-pig-on kill me with 100ed blades using their 5-17 dragon swords, especially when I'm busy testing something
