Default low req = more damage?

I've always played caster classes, until I decided to try some physical fun! Now I know there's a few tricks to physical damage that caster damage doesnt do. I've heard things such as: You don't do max damage unless at lvl20, and if your attribute is higher than your weapon req, you do a set amount of extra damage? Can someone confirm the second one especially, and tell me of any other physical tricks? O and do bows hit critical against running enemies or is that just melee?

You don't do extra damage if your weapon attribute is higher than the requirement; the only effect the requirement has is to lower your damage to near-nothing if you don't meet it.

As long as you at least meet (or exceed) the weapon requirement, the full damage of the weapon is used. If you do not, then it behaves as a starter item. Here it is again: As long as you meet the requirement, the weapon's full damage is used in the damage equation.

Level 12 weapon attribute grants you 100% listed weapon damage. >12 gives you a bonus. <12 is a penalty. Higher weapon attribute gives you a higher chance of a critical as well.

I am not sure how your character level applies but I believe you do 100% damage vs. monsters/players your level and less if they're higher level than you. Conversely, you'd do more against lower level targets.

Hm...then is there a good reason someone would value the same weapon with a req8 more than a req12? If your going to be using, say, a sword, I'd think you would have 12 in it anyways.

some people are under the impression its smart to be a w/r with the ability to switch from a bow to a sword at will. at least thats what one person told me about this at one point (lol)

not sure why it matters unless it isnt like a 15 req (if thats even possible ) but i can really understand the problems with shields, which can have unuseable reqs ( like who has 13 strength anyway). and some caster items have a similar issue.

yea the more i think about it the stupider it sounds

For a PVP Warrior whose focus is damage output, I can't understand running anything but a 16 (12+1+3) in the weapon attribute. A PVE Warrior should have a 14 (12+1+1) or maybe the 16 if you're ballsy. This is a moot point anyway. PVE isn't difficult.

There are only 2 reasons for low requirement weapons: The first, usability for little PVE characters, and the second, if you want to get cute with attribute points--like maybe with a Trapper Ranger with a few Marksmanship skills for disruption.

16 weapon attribute is always the way to go for pvp.

yeah ... i have to agree here. A max attribute in your weapon gives you the most potential power from your attacks while using skills. I dont undertand why one would not play the 'point and shoot' with max potential. Like what the hell is a 10 gonna do with 12 healing??? <<< boggles me every time i see a new build. The stats have been laid out in clear writing in this forum more times than I care to count. Guru even gives you a neat toy, called the calculator, to help in your planning.

Whether your level 18 or level 20 its your attribute level that makes the difference.
