I'm going to go with signet madness ftw.

But seriously, mantra of resolve can work wonders. Of course, the energy loss can be a pain, but that's manageable with the proper skill combination.

Or change to a fastcast Me/Mo. =P

While true, this is kinda pointless. If you can afford to cast Protective Spirit, then you could just cast Healing Touch for half the energy and heal for more and take less damage while doing it. Mhydrian should stop giving bad advice. The forums will be better for it.

Backfire's pretty much laughable except in certain situations which you only see from good Mesmers. Hex removal, Hex Breaker, and Contemplation of Purity all own Backfire. If the whole goal is to get around Backfire, then take Signet of Devotion instead of spending on the ridiculous Tactics.

The most difficult thing to deal with is energy denial, and the counter to that is energy management (Energy Drain, Offering of Blood, Signet of Devotion, etc) and focus switching.

Against energy denial, you could also run an alternative primary. I've had quite remarkable success with an E/Mo healer using Ether Renewal (you drain me dry, I focus switch, cast Ether Renewal, and gain 100 energy in 10 sec), and some people have used N/Mo protectors (and sometimes even healers) with good success, using Soul Reaping to fuel Monk skills.

monks that dont get shut down:

- use skills with a long relcharge time, they can barely be shut down if they reload anyways.
- use more than 2 different attributes.
- use signets.

Warriors that go for monks first, and not for rangers and mesmers are so stupid, they sem to have learned not to use mending just yesterday!

Ohhh I found out how to be invincible to shutdown mesmers! Heres the build!

16 Divine Favor
12 Earth Magic

Skills: Spell Breaker
Arcane Mimicary

Yet this requires a friend that uses:
Obsidian Flesh and Quickening Zephyr.

BTW, it will suck, dont try it

I've been playing a Mo/E build for the past couple nights in the random arenas, using Obsidian Flesh along with armor of earth and ward against melee.

It's not the super build, I was getting killed by rangers and smiting monks pretty consistently, and I'd rather have a couple more monk spells, but it worked enough to make it to team arenas a few times from consecutive wins.

Stopped all mesmers and ele's, and worked against most warriors.
