I would try messing around with a pet build that utilizes some of the abilities that make other classes so nicely soloable. IE Balthazar's aura...

not if you're playing it right, it's not fast or anything, but your pet can take just as much if not more damage than a Warrior. About the same killing speed as a sword warrior I'd say.. (yes, yes I just dissed swords..)

5/1 bow string

Live Vicariously
Vigerous Spirit
Predatory Season
Barrage

Max Archery, put ten in healing, then whatever you want in expertise. I can use this build to take out most casters if I am careful. Try and cluster them all together, and you will drain ~30hp a shot. Five enemies clustered together? 150hp each barrage healed to you.

Works fairly well on casters, but has problems with knockdowns and some melee.

I believe an aatxe has 1400 health, which a ranger could feasibly inflict, but then they are normally in twos, so make that 2800. Take into account the evasion skills you would have to take to avoid near instant death, and the problem becomes clear. I dont think it can be done.

As I understand it; being blinded give you a 90% chance of missing. Aatxes attack once every 1.3 seconds give or take. Each hit will do approx 160 dmg (70 armor), if critical over 300. The chances of surviving are slim with two aataxes, negligible with three.

A solo trapping build will never work. Even if you took QZ and EW, along with all four traps, you just cant do the necessary dmg. Running the two spirits you might be able to lay upto 16 traps on a stair case. With wilderness survival at lvl 16 these traps will do 55-65 dmg each, plus bleeding from barbed. So if one aatxe ran over all 16 traps, which of course he wont, it would do 8-900 dmg, including the bleeding. And remember you would only have two skill slots left to finish him off. And then ofcourse there is the other aatxe, which has run over no traps (because we assume the first has run over all 16) and will be more than a little annoyed the harm you did his buddy.

The aatxes do retreat if you run away (the pairs do, the single roaming ones dont give up), but it would take at least 2 mins to reset traps, by which time the dmged aatxe will be right as rain, regened back to full health, bad and ugly as ever.

My Mesmer can solo upto two aatxes, but it is a complicated build, and, to be honest, not worth the effort. 1000 g to get in, clear chamber, come out with a few handfuls of glittering dust. Its a big gold sink.

BS. Pets get 480hp at level 20 just like people do.

.. You're stupid. There's no other way to put it. Try this - level 12 BM gives your pet 80 armor, 16 might give you more, not sure. Otyugh's cry boosts that to 100. Call of protection is like shielding hands on crack. And symbiotic bond effectively doubles your pet's AL. Let me ask you, how many people do you see running around with 200 AL? At level 17 my ranger and her pet tried taking on about 9 ettins close to Beetleton. My ranger got a little aggro and died, but by the time I made it back to where my pet was, he he had killed 3 of them and had lost a negligable amount of hp. People still don't understand how incredibly powerful pets are, and it pisses me off. Just look at all the skills. They can do everything another ranger can with a bow, but for less energy. Rawr.

A solo build a use for my Ranger/Mesmer

Barbed Trap
Flame Trap
Throw Dirt
Whirling Defense
Oath Shot
Spirit of Failure
Mantra of Resolve
Lightning Reflexes

lay a couple of traps pull your mob over them cast Mantra(keeps you from being interupted) + Throw Dirt (blinds them) + Whirling Defense(evades attacks) + Spirit of Failure(1-4 energy everytime an enemy misses an attack)

then just start laying taps underneath them. Use Oath Shot to recharge your traps so you can lay em 2 at a time. Use Lightning when Whirling runs out(if whirling runs out it's more a precaution than anything else) make sure they're constantly blinded and spirit of failure is up as often as possible.

requires Beast Mastery + Expertise + Inspiration.

Cat Tabby: Traps do AoE Dmg. as long as both the aatxes were within AoE range it would affect both of them.

a 55 pure monk can solo aatxes running the following build

Mending
Protective Spirit
Balths Aura
Essence Bond
Balths Spirit
Shield of Judgement
Healing Breeze
Zealot's Fire

Healing has to be high enough to give +4 mending and +8 Healing Breeze
Prot Spirit high enough so that it lasts longer than the recharge
Divine Favor atleast 7
everything else in smite.

Since the last update, shit happens. It was risky not to bring bonetti before, now it's even more risky. In case anything wrong happens, it's a nice 5-6 seconds skill to use, and it recharges so fast.

As of now, 90% of the times everything goes as expected, but for some ridiculous reason Nightmares sometimes spawn while you're standing still in front of 2 ataxes. It's a show of sadism and cruelty from Anet.

I run a Mo/Necro so Bonettis isn't an option
