Default lack of diversity

this is my first post in this forum, i'll kick it off with a rant.

I noticed the general lack of diversity in the Competition Arenas lately. It's beginning to frustrate me. I usually play either a Mo/W or a Me/E, my monk being protection based and mesmer being energy denial. Everytime I enter a battle in the comp arenas, what do I see on my team? Rangers, Elementalists, and Warriors. It' so uncommon to have a monk on my team. I got so frustrated with this, I decided to actually play a monk. Longest winning streak after just picking the base Protection Monk pre-build? 16 wins, most of which were flawless.

I'm getting kind of sick with how the majority of people make their PVP chars. 70% of the people that play PVP just make chars to deal damage with. Nukers, stupid cookie cutter W/Mo's, and worst of all, frag mesmers. What the hell is the point of making a Mesmer that sole purpose is to deal damage? Why not be an aeromancer spiker or something? Frag builds are so cliche it's not even funny. A mesmer's primary role is shutdown, not damage dealing.

So, I decide to go to the Team Arena. With my energy denial Mesmer, I roamed around looking for a team. No join requests....whatsoever. Everybody kept shouting "LOOKING FOR A HEALING MONK...LOOKING FOR TANK"...I also noticed there wasn't a single mesmer in the entire district. I got disgusted and proceeded to tell everyone that they are stupid and underestimate the importance of a mesmer. There were hardly any monks either. Like I said, most people just want to do damage. It's retarded. Finally, I found a group that was in utter awe that they found a mesmer. They appreciated me greatly. That was a rarity, because still I get ignored most of the time.

I really hope more people start appreciating mesmers, and monks as well. Until then, I'll have no choice but to play a monk just to gain faction.

Unusual to find no monks or mesmers in the team arenas as alot of PVP guilds do their concept tests there.

Go back to the arena again there is people looking for mesmers. I almost always have either an intrupt ranger or a shutdown mes on my team. However it s true shutdown mes are hard to come by so i keep a few good ones in friend list =p

You've probably noticed this because (1) most people that create monks are doing so for farming nowadays and (2) mesmers are, by far, the least popular class.

To me, mesmers and necromancers are the two most feared classes in PvP if played correctly. I know when I finally get the PvE experience out of my system, I will probably create a shutdown mesmer to dominate the PvP landscape.

Saying frag is stupid is just... stupid. A frag mesmer can deal around 400 damage in the space of a few seconds. In team arena, youve got four slots, one (at least - and generally) which is monk, so thats three to kill the enemy team. While mesmers as energy denial are perfectly viable, most people tend to just say screw it, and get 3 dpsers.

Why?

Most people will run the same thing (3damage/1monk) and you dont need shutdown in that, three people can easily overwhelm one monk.

In 8v8 your going to need energy denial or shutdown since a network of three monks should have no problems staving off all but the biggest spikes (i.e. rend evis the full works), unless your very confident, or have insane dps.

In 4v4, its a complete luxury if you have your head screwed on.

This is true as my guild does so, however most of these guilds have all 4 people and are not looking for an extra mesmer who probably isnt running exactly what they would want anyway.

Go to the tombs and wait around. Once in a while, u'll see a party that wants a mesmer - sometimes not for shutting down but other functions like corpse disposal. Most of the time however, people do not know the capacity of the mesmer/nec. Mesmers/nec got some pretty powerful elites that are really undervalued and estimated.

eg. Soulleech. spiteful spirit.

Moreover, i think the best spell in the game is arcane echo, which allows u to cast a spell twice. too much strategic potential.

The team that turns a mesmer down would be saying regreting when they get mesmered.

i wun say that frag mesmers are bad.. every class is capable of doing several things though it's true mesmers shine in shutdown or energy denial but doing spike dmg isn't something to be called lame or stupid.. it's another viable build that like all build has it's strengths and weaknesses..

besides my experience in TA is that dmg is far more impt than shutting down. Since battles in TA are generally shorter, you'd do better to deal dmg rather than shutting down. Like what a friend of mine say, "Dmg is dmg, never hurts to have more dmg output".

But yeah, mesmers are hard to play.. maybe that's why i love them so much..

frag mesmers are by far the most powerful spike damage dealers i have ever played. please dont insult them. youre damage is going to have to come from somewhere. sure so is your shutdown, but would it really be that bad to have multiple mesmers? we got up to rank 34 on the ladder by running with 3 mesmers.

"A mesmer's primary role is shutdown, not damage dealing"- Who says? You? On random arenas the best chars are those who can kill fast without energy drain shit etc. I can shut down whoever i want with diversion and/or power leak and dun have to waste all 8 spell slots for energy drain spells

stop complaining.

Why would you want to group with the people who think mesmers are not needed anyway? They probably suck.

All mesmers rangers and necros do is complain about how they arent wanted. If you want to be popular, make a monk and join every shitty PuG you can find in the 4v4 arenas. Then you'll go in and die first cause everyone goes after the monks in 4v4.

Or you could make your own group. Find some people who actually know there is more to the game than healing, damage and tanking. Hell most warriors think they're supposed to do damage.

I used to be like that, with my ranger.. i used to think it was my job to do damage. I felt useless. Then i realized i could trap and interupt. Now, most of the time im running an interuption build. Even in PvE.. i let the henchies do the damage while im interupting heals and spells.

I feel your pain, Inspirational. Being a fast cast water ele, I never get some luv either. What's worse is when I tell a group that I am an ele (if I tell 'em I'm water, they'll never want to have me) and they invite me; sometimes they go: "Ewwww, a mesmer? Weren't you a ele?" before kicking me.

And it's certainly not because I suck or my class suck; I do get most amazing results out of my hybrd PvE PvP build.

*buzzer* Wrong, the least class that I see of is Elementalist. In tombs that is, I hardly even play with a smiter anymore.

That just killed your credibility. Warriors do damage. End of story.

Well, you just killed half of your credibility.

Damage-based warrior builds do alot of damage, while tanking-based builds sacrifice damage output in order to withstand a serious beating. Similar to a monk when talking about pure healing, pure protection, or a hybrid.

I haven't been in a team with a healing/protection monk in CA in a while now. Makes my Fast cast Air Me/E hard to run because I always get ganked. =/

Mesmers = awesome. Maybe you just going to wrong places at wrong times looking for mesmers. They are very popular when I go into a Tombs district or Team Arena.

Mesmers have weakest armor, don't they? No matter, people who don't want them probably don't know the mesmer's worth on the battle field.

I myself find CA unplayable unless I am playing a monk. If Im not then its just a haphazard game of chase the paladins.
