Just curious when I get a chance to play, wondering how many matches I could expect to get in. Like if (and that is a BIG if) we lose the first match will I basically call it a day and you'll move onto the next person?

It's pretty much a "shoot from the hip" operation. It's not like you have to stand in line at the deli and get a ticket, you get your one chance and it's over.

We play til either A) Someone drops (and doesn't reconnect within a few minutes) B) it gets stupid boring (50+ win streaks), C) it gets late and someone has to go D) We get enough people for tombs and decide to vacate the arena.

If I had to guess I'd say most runs average 30+ matches, but needing to go before then isn't a big deal. If this keeps gaining popularity (and it looks promising) then it should be easy to grab another person when someone has to go.

Winning is a given. Arena is more about fun, being made fun of, and networking.

Hell, the highlight for me so far was seeing OddSock log into vent with Neo in the channel and suddenly get all apologetic. You could almost hear the moment when he realized that the names on the forum were actually people. It was so cute.
And I missed it? Damn...

As Scaph said it's not that organized. It's not like we have a list of people and once you play with us once we cross you off and chalk one up for being a good guy.

I have everyone on the list I compiled above on my friends list so earlier in the night when we aren't in tombs or GvG I'll just message people on it to check if you're available to play.

Don't worry if you're not available either. It's not like we're gonna hold it against you and never ask again

Once we set up the group we usually go till someone has to log, gets bored, or we go Tombs/GvG. Usually it's ~20 matches at least.

What I noticed strategy-wise:

- Instant hex/condition removal
- Excellent observation skills on what skills were being used by the enemies (I don't know if it was through the skill animations or just the bar on the top of the screen when someone is highlighted)
- Almost predicted builds based off of 1 or 2 skills that had been used

What I now know that I didn't know from before:
- Drain Enchantment isn't too shabby of a skill to run as a warrior.
- My mic doesn't like Ventrillo.

It was a good time. iQ guys seemed quite cool.
You guys were running the same setup as us, and all 4 monks had the exact same build

Constant Arena runs, knowing skills and watching behaviors will do that to you. Thats how we usually know when to switch off of healing monks to peg other targets. Notice how many times Sarus or Lonedust would say the enemy monk is out of energy

All in all, I had a blast, and now see why you guys do so well. You all were on top of your game 100% conditions didn't stay on me for more than 2 seconds even though my damn mic wouldn't work and the only way I could inform you was to ctrl+click >.<

This was awesome. I hope to do it again sometime if you guys wouldn't mind.

Haha yeah we owned you guys hard Its alright its not your fault you were on the B team anyways I bet Sarus and Blackace are gonna flame me hard for saying that

I don't really follow why you're chagrined- is it because your builds don't need critiquing? Or is it the way Ensign does his hair for the weekend?
We've tried to emphasize that this isn't the most serious of endeavors. If you'd like to hang out and play with us we're trying to reach out to players who want to get better and do some networking.

It doesn't mean we have all the answers, or think we have all the answers. As a guild, we know a lot about the game (all or nearly all of us played throughout the BWEs, insert other credentials here) and we'll share with people who want to learn by doing, not just from reading forums.

If you don't think there's anything to do to improve your build or your play, we can still probably win some games and have a decent time doing it. But there's some mutual reward built into sharing- both sides (optimally) benefit from the experience. Maybe you're running a build we've never seen or thought up before. There are a lot more of you than there are of us, and despite the many hours we've logged, the populace of this forum has more hours to spend than we do as a group.

So don't be mad. And remember, you've got a great smile!

Its very noticable that iQ is playing arena alot right now. They are the only matches I lose -_- lol the funny part is that my team had more kills in 1 match than all 20 of the teams yesterday combined. gg. Theres a long list of people now but you bet I want in on seconds.

You guys make it look easy.

I'd just like to take the oppurtunity to apologise to Tuna for being a complete noob tonight
I haven't played for over a week and I had actually been out having a real life for once

On another note, all the other guys are tombsing right now, perhaps if someone leaves we'll be going back in

I mean really.

I didn't mean that we were going to subject you to a full on critique of your build and what you should run, or some long discussion on why we think Hammer Bash is better than Heavy Blow or whatever. I didn't mean to imply that our builds are superior and that you have to run one of them. In many ways I see this an an opportunity to see what other players are running, and perhaps why.

Mostly we just want to make sure that what you're running makes sense and will mesh with the rest of the team. If you're playing a Ranger that needs to drop QZ to function, then we need to know and build around that. If you're running a protection Monk we'll need to make sure we don't double up on key buffs.

It's also an acknowledgment that things change when you play in an organized team. For example, I'm sure that many players who frequent the arenas are used to running self-heals, because they're needed in that unreliable environment. But when you're running with us, you should have excellent Monk support that you can rely upon, so the self heals end up being counterproductive. Also, there are players from all sorts of different backgrounds on these boards and playing with us in arena. Some of them are PvP veterans and a couple quick words will let us know what you're running. Others are just dipping into competitive PvP, and going over skill selections and *why* is important.

A little bit of preparation and discussion of builds goes on before every PvP run. These arena runs are no different.

Peace,
-CxE
