Im not sure this is the right Forum but im getting game soon and i was wondering what a good build would be for a first character. i was thinking Warrior/Monk but im just guessing i have no clue really..anyone help me out here?

Allow me to be the first to welcome you and give some help. Basically, people are gonna tell you that there is no bad decisions on classes in the game. Its true that any can work. That being said, it is generaly thought that warriors and elementalists are the cliche'd starter classes. This is just because they require less planning, and can be figured out as you go. It is also fairly hard to mess these classes up (please don't flame this, just my opinon, and yes, I know that an idiot can ruin any character), and you are not likely to lose interest becuase things got too complicated or your character needs revision (which is easy to do, but can be a deterrant). Necro's and mesmers are more complicated classes, as they require a bit more planning, and require a good undestanding of the game, skills, and opponents (mesmer especially). These characters can be essential and very powerful, but must be done properly. Also, they are typically not taken into pick up groups (PUG) as often, because many people don't understand their utilization or power.

To sum up, do anything you want. The game is balanced, and if you use this site to check out skills and plan ahead, they're all unique and fun. For more specific info, check out the "campfire" forum, and you will be able to research specific builds. Be warned that many look down on the "cookie cutter" or "flavor of the month" builds, though.

As Tuperwho stated, you really can't make a "wrong" choice so far as your first character is concerned. Don't worry about making your first character the "perfect build", you will have plenty of time for that later once you have a good foundation of experience. Just go with the profession that you find the most appealing.
And Actually the most important thing is what you name your character. Seriously, you don't want to be stuck with a really great build that has a name like "Bunnypoo Leet Meister" or the such.
