Default Hey Monks, what's your healing priority?

We've all been there. In FoW or Galrath, or something similar. Either through stupidity, bad aggro, or bad luck, the entire party becomes engaged and is threatened with being overwhelmed. Health bars start dropping, your energy becomes critical, and you realize that, as much as you want to, you can't save everone.

As a monk, you're faced with a hard decision. Who will you heal, and who do you let die?

Here's my priority:

1) Keep myself and any other Monk(s) alive.

As self-healing isn't as good as healing others, I usually try to heal the other monk first, as long as I judge him/her to be competent. If any monks drop, then the entire party is threatened with elimination.

2) Heal the Tanks.

They'll draw aggro from you and are essential to bring order back to the chaos. If your tank(s) drop, then things usually become a rout very quickly.

3) Give the Nukers and Mesmers an opportunity to save themselves.

A few placed heals can save a nuker who knows how to clear aggro. But a nuker who just stands there while being pummeled will drain all your energy and eventually die anyway.

4) Help the Necros if you can.

Sometimes these guys can be more important than nukers, and can be classified as Monks. But an experienced Necro can negate so much damage that he/she doesn't need more than an occasional assist.

6) Let the Ranger do their thing

A competent Ranger doesn't really need a Monk. If they're doing their job they aren't really taking any damage anyway. Heck, they should probably be soloing the mission instead of teaming up. Send them a whisper and tell them how much you appreciate their skill.

So If I've gotta let a few people die in order to save the team, it usually ends up being the ele's, mesmers, and necros.

Any feedback, dissent, or other opinions?

My personal order:

Other Monks
Me
Mesmers
Eles
Necros
Rangers
Warriors.

Other monks/me are very close to tie for first, but other monks wins just because "Heal Other" works so well. Mesmers and Ele's next because they can dish out major damage... but their self healing is almost non existant when being ganged up on. Necros are near the bottom because presumably they have some blood magic and can semi heal themselves. Rangers and Warriors have the best armour, so usually can hold out the best... hence are left for last.

Heal other monks. Heal ghostly hero. Heal casters. Heal Warriors when buffer is completely gone.

During the mission/quest, I pay attention to who is playing, and how. To me it doesn't really matter what their class is, I look to see who knows what they are doing. In an absolute emergency, the heals go to the people that I deem the best out of the group, whether it be a necro, a mesmer, or a warrior/monk.

You really shouldn't be in that kind of situation though, if you have energy management. Go cap OoB or Mantra of Recall, they're both easy.

Highest priority goes to myself. I'm similar to jesh though, the better you play, the more likely I'm going to save you (should it ever come down to that). Of course, some characters I'm more likely to save than others (ie other monks), but if it came down to a good <insert any class here> and a not-so great monk, I'd probably let the monk die if I knew I could live without them for a few moments.

While mostly true, there are times when a ton of rangers gang up on a target, elementalists think they are warriors (without any earth magic) or there is alot of degen flying around. Sometimes you can't keep up with the healing simply because you can't cast quickly enough.

Dont ever put this guy in your party...ur pretty much screwed if u do
-my healing list
1.monks
2.me
3.warriors
4.elems
5.necros
6.rangers
7.mesmers

-i barely see any mesmers in a party in pve so they're the least of my problems. Other Monks are on the top of my list becuase if i day and the 2 other monks are alive, its a guarenteed res back...they make sure ur resed up first than any other character in the party.

If you have to heal the rest of the party, they really arent doing their job.
My priority would be the other monks and myself, with me being the priority. Then i usually look around and see who's likely to take damage.

If everyone is engaged, I usually run away, wait for the party to die, then rez them. But if I like the particular party, I will try to stay awhile and heal them, and seeing if that helps the outcome or not.

Normally for the prot, my group assigns who protects the numbers 1-4... and who does 5-8.
Healing is different, but I'd go for target caller first.

-HEAL GHOSTLY HERO/MISSION CRITICAL NPCS!!!(so many damn times the other monk forgets about this, so now i make it my goal, and always keep an eye on those mission critical NPCs, its not like you can win with them dead usually)
-other monk always
-myself
-tank(simply because they usually draw agro, once they have healing hands/seed they will be set while i powerheal others
-ele/mes/ne
-ranger

IMO it never really gets to the stage for me you are suggesting. I usually run prot monk so aegis is always there, plus putting out wards to help the other fellow spellcasters from dying. Granted things do randomly happen but as long as one of the monks lives, and has rebirth for pve, you are set, get that monk to retreat and the others to kill themselves so they take the agro off you. Particualry in the FoW and the likes, the skellies follow you a long way if you agroed them and they are chasing you. but all in all, if you die, redo it.sometimes you get crap spawns, like when you zone in to FoW and you are instantly getting owned. but it happens.

just another wild theory:
im not even arguing.

--more damage than heal on self
Mo
Ne
Wa
Ra
Me
E
Mo
--more heal than damage on self
monk is doubled because its monks that heal other monks.

oh wait its pretty close to brybry`s, he just never saw elementalists with self heal or armor bonus... and never a good sacricifing necromancer.

Sounds like PvE was in question, not pvp. Of course in GvG or Tombs, things are going to be more stressful, and you'll have different priorities.

mission critical npc's
me
tank if it's tanking otherwise switch with next slot
after that it's whomever happens to have the lowest health bar at the time. I figure the other monk will be doing whatever they can to keep themself alive same as me, so unless they're really low life and/or no energy, I help others.

If the party is doomed I usually run. I'd rather have the party all 15% DP than having to pay another 1K to send us all back down to where ever again.
