Default Lack of solid competition in Team Arena?

The other day I was in Droknar's Team Arena, farting around with different builds with a guildmate. Another player in the TA said something of the sort that "his guild could win unlimited rounds" in TA, because there are "only newbs" in TA. Do you agree with this? If so, why do you think this is?

Personally, I love TA. It's fast, fun, and doesn't require you to have guildmates on to do it.

I'm not going to lie; I do Tombs very rarely. Is the competition that much better in Tombs?

Do you all think that because it is 4v4, certain builds will just naturally be better than others? Or that 4v4 lacks variety?

Competition in Tombs is much bigger, and there are more newbs in TA because some people just press "enter mission" on their own or with another friend and join up with 2 mor epeopel they dont know and thus they dont choose who they pair up with...soits a team of 4 random people you get a lot of the time, might as well go CA. I seen a lot of people try new builds in TA, ranger spikers, E/Mo AmityPacifism/Wards weirdo type build that worked, iway. Anyway TA is not as competitive as tombs, has more newbs and if your in an organised 4 guild mate team, with vent then you could go on for a LONG time.

TA gets boring very fast. If you have a decent team you will really win unlimited rounds (OK, you gonna loose every now and then) and that is often not really what you want.

Therefore most really good teams don't play TA.

TA is where you test things. i highly doubt too many people take it seriously

The problem happened when the PUGs in the regular arenas started playing equivilant matched in the TA for random matches. so well orginized teams can and will dominate almost any random PUG that is randimized by the Competition arenas system. I may be wrong on this but I have not been able to prove it either way. it just seems this way. as such I have moved away from playing at all from the competition arenas, and only in the Team Arenas for this type of gameplay. Then your changes are GREATLY improved... Problem is most have focused more on Fame then anything else recently, thus the only place with real action is Tombs, and it is getting really hard to play with civil players anymore. So it is a major problem. Don't know what to say. Hopefully someday things will be better in the attitude of others. maybe once they have someplace else to go for the same fame/rank... Lets hope so... Death to fame / rank. Long live tombs... Thats not a popular opinion though...

I'm more for getting GvG promoted and being played anymore... cause that part of the game seems to have died out again.

It's not like Tombs is that much more competitive either. If you have even a half-way decent build with 8 competent players you are probably going to the hall. It's pretty much just like Team Arenas.

i think TA and CA are good places to start out and learn about pvp.
the builds you will be using, though, are much different then ToPK...

in the end, TA and CA are places to farm faction... you get considerably more faction in them, since battles start very fast (unlike ToPK), and you win more often.

well everyone says that they, with their guild team, can win infinite rounds in TA and are therefore the best guild at TA. SOme of them cant, but yea most of them have gotten 50 or more consecutive wins. The reason why most people do not take TA very seriously is b/c most of those 50 wins came against nub teams who didnt have coordination, planning, or just plain sucked. out of every 10 TA games youplay, maybe 1 will be against a worty team. Now if there was a way that top teams and 4v4 guild teams could consistently face eachother without having to wade through all the riff raff, Im sure people would take a much more competitive attitude towards 4v4 games. If teams that can go for infinite games face eachother, then you have an exciting and spirited match. I mean, they are both good, but then you could really prove just who is the 4v4 champion.

Yes! The only problem with team arena is that most of the people there are just doing pickup groups, maybe with a friend or two. Very few people are actually designing 4-player teams. Which is a shame.

I'd love it if there were some way to separate the two approaches into different arenas, but I don't know how that could work.

tombs is also very easy to win. there are a few decent teams but for the most part its just newbs. gvg is where the competition has flocked.

i love how every day i see pravus phasmatis win the halls for hours... oh and its also good to know theyre #1 on the gvg ladder right now...

those people are dumbasses who think they can win infinite rounds because they have a guild team, most of those people who think that are stupid unless they have good players and there going into TA taking it like a serious match, some people take it to serious like if it's a real challenge to win there

we are taking a break from gvg because the metagame is changing. we were 18th. and im not saying we're the best in gvg. not even close. there is tons of competition there. there are great teams. thats what i was saying. read my comment please. and yes, we do hold hall daily, but most of our attention has shifted to finding new and innovative gvg builds.

The level of skill in tombs has diminshed a lot lately. Is it because of the tournament? I'm finding just with PuG balanced builds a pretty smooth run to HoH. IWAY seems to have doubled since they added trappers, ranger spike has lessened, but there is an increase in energy surge mesmer builds.

But back to the thread, Arenas is a nice transition point from PvE to PvP, but when you get the PvP bug you'll want to test yourself on a larger scale. Though 4x4 does offer a bit more to some underused skills like Illusionary Weaponry that would get treated like a dog's breakfast in 8x8.

I have a great time in the TA. Tons of fun matches- lots of challanges. I spend all of my time there.

TA is a better place to cultivate PLAYER skill as opposed to tombs where losses can result from buggy mechanics and plain bad luck. When it's just straight up 4v4, individual player skill is very apparent.

Try avoid using a monk and get your random team into TA consistently

Monks aren't that important in TA if you build your team right. The fact that monkless CA teams seem to make it into TA so often should tell people something.

TA seems to be where all the newcomers to pvp go, and where guilds go to find new recruits or for people to add to their friends list for tombs. It's very easy to go in with 3 guildies and rotate out your 4th player and tell whether or not he's good, and if you're all real friendly, playing a limitless win streak with a good group after the usual 50% rabble is enough to make the "skilled newbie" at least consider joining your ranks.

Yes, monks aren't that important IF you build the team right. But don't forget this is CA where teams are random. So, a heal/prot monk will generally provide a safety net for the random team to make up for the lack of coordination between the teamates.
