So true ... I've had more success even with odd/gimmick builds when the teammates really clicked with each other, and the cooperation was smooth and natural, and people were all relaxed and having fun on TS/vent, then with builds that were supposed to be great but just didn't work because there was no team cohesion ...

P.S. Never met CWz in tombs, but seen their name pop up in the global announcement often enough. People that have never seen it probably play in different hours.

I don't like iway myself simply because even rubbish iway teams can farm fame reasonably fast, thus producing masses of incompetent rank 3, even 6, players that have never played anything else. But if someone can run it really well, it's no different than being good at any other build.

most "balanced" builds (monkways - 3 monks for the skillz / win) talk trash if they beat or lose to iway. i dont know. must be the pets? are they allergic to pets?

iway imo is the hardest build to play. no monks, no hex removal. open to hexes, ranged attacks etc. you gotta kill fast to survive. its like one foot is already on your grave.

i know coz i've been trapping for iway warriors.

and CWz. they run an iway build but they do it aggressively.

:P

What ppl (myself that is) hate about IWAY is that is being run only to farm fame. There is no hope of holding HoH. So when you start trying to make a strong team you waste hours on R6+ idiots that farmed all their fame from IWAY.
You get yourself a W/R and say "dude, why aren't you calling targets?" Or a necro and say, "dude wtf are these wells?"
IWAY breeds idiots. And it sucks, because some of the best moments in the game is where you get a PUG team down and you gel right through to HoH. But IWAY is making it hard to find good people when your guildies aren't on.

yes, if you wanna farm fame and get some without TS or Vent with pugs, iway is viable.

but there is more to iway (or variants) than farming fame. seeing different reactions of other teams to (organized) chaos is one of the good things bout this build.

if one is getting only fame and not new knowledge from iway, he will be one of the, as you put it, "R6+ idiots".

A top 20 guild trash talked you? Thats news...

I always trash talk IWAY in tombs. Why? Because its the stupidest build ever. I hate IWAY's in HoH going "Well, we can't beat the Koreans who are holding the alter, so lets just kill the other American Team, and then try to kill the Koreans while we heal our Ghost with our non-existent Monks."

Its just GG.

I don't run IWAY very often, but I won and held the hall with it a few times... And if been beaten out of the hall by IWAY.

So therefore: IWAY can win and hold the hall.

Quote:

Your logic is flawed.
IWAY doesn't produce bad player. And the fact that rank doesn't mean skill should be known by everyone...

@Lews:
I never ever tell names, but beeing good in a game doesn't give you social skills for free.

And that you confess you talk trash and beeing proud of it proves that people are often completly dumb. A bad IWAY team can be beaten in 2 minutes. So if they really attack you first and then the blue team - you just lost 2 minutes.

But the problem is not IWAY: it's dumb people. And every team loosing to a bad IWAY team is damn stupid.

I can't count the times I played in PUGs and they made a strategy against IWAY that goes something like this:
our prot monk has aegis - that is good.
So make a ball, because everyone does that.
IWAY is only n00bs, we will beat them

And then in underworld -> IWAY team and we are dead after the first aegis fades out... And such groups where also r6+ groups

IWAY is easy to beat (in general) and most times it's free fame - so why do people complain? I can't understand. If the enemy is good, sure it's a tough fight. But that is because the enemy knows how to play - and we all enjoy a good fight, right?

And if you complain about 'n00bs' get a high rank: fine - then you may realise that rank means nothing.

This just makes you look like a sore loser. People rounding off the match with some ignorant comment about IWAY just makes the entire game smell alot like 3rd grade again. And also, using a blanket statement like "IWAY breeds idiots" shows true ignorance. Reasons why winning many maps with IWAY can help a player become more skilled:
1) You play the same tombs map multiple times in a day, including advanced maps like Courtyard or Hall of Heros. Familiarity with each map, and the opportunity to try a different use of topography each time can help when this player runs ANY build.
2) You run into every possible build under the sun. You see people counter IWAY, you see people do effective (or not) ball groups, Ranger spike groups, mass degen groups, earth spike groups, SoJ spike groups, EoE suicide groups, etc. etc. etc. Seeing these groups constantly breeds familiarity with their weaknesses.
3) You learn what to do on alter maps if the other team manages to take out your monks (whom they WILL aim for) and aim for your ghostly. Techniques like body blocking, mass targeting other Ghostlies and so on. I couldn't count how many times a good alter holding team lost at courtyard because the prot monk was dropped and our ghostly had a nice walk up to the alter.

So while I do not contest that some people can hit rank 6 and still be stupid, I don't think it's IWAY doing that, just the simple fact that 9 out of 10 people are stupid to begin with. So instead of flinging insults before or after the match, why not respect the other team and congratulate them on their win, as you would hope they would do if you won. The more we sink into this childish pissing contest the less everyone likes the game, except of course the ten year olds that love feeling big and tough from a wonderfully anonymous position.

why did you start in the first place?

Last week or so I saw the best example of trash talk ever:

We fought on burial mounds against a team with 3 or so henchmen. We rushed them dead in about 2:20 minutes or so. But one of us died (due to a nice spike from the enemy) - they started insulting us on 'how n00b' we are for not flawless beat them and stuff.

So tell me: how cool is it to talk trash? Why people do it? Do they need it to boost their self esteem? Is just because they want to be cool?

My guess is, they are lacking social skills. One should feel sorry for this guys... But stating in a forum how cool you are because you are able to talk trash and how cool you are because you stereotype is just, you know, 'not smart'.

One of the most fun IWAY moments was when our nonserious IWAY team (aka people join, one talks about basic stuff like spirits, newbs get told to bring rezz sig/ pet / iway, one makes sure that one necro knows what orders mean and its off for some casual fun) lost on an altar map (i was lagging badly during most of the fight). The winning team made comments like "try a real build next time" and "n00bs talking". Now the funny part: during the fight, i was hexed with wither. I dont even need to tell that i was playing a warrior....

man, always see Migraine on me when i play traps against most of (the proest) balanced build groups. maybe those mesmers want to interrupt my mantra of resolve. and popping cry of frustration while the target is on resolve. wasted 15 energy, my traps laid.

now who's the stupid?

i share your views. funny no? ^^

im heartbroken that you dont have gl hf = ftw on your list of greetings and gg = ftw on your list of post-game comments. anyway, please dont stereotype because i always say the same thing before and after every game no matter who it is against. i understand the motivation for iway. although the players might not be the best, they are doing what is in their own best interests, and it may be working. cant blame them for that. a lot of people see it my way and those people pretty much respect any build. not everyone yells at iway so please dont try to make it seem like that ^^

Romo is right, there are alot of friendly guild groups out there. And, most of the better guilds out there do respect every build, win or lose. I cannot say how refreshing it is to run into that. It's funny, the further you make it in the map progression the more civil people seem to become. Is it that the ones who trash talk are stuck in the early maps? Maybe certain builds become the targets of frustration for many hapless groups that find themselves constantly cycled back to the beginning after getting no farther than Scarred Earth. But still, I extend common courtesy to every group I encounter, and would prefer the same in return. I'm sure that most of us would.

You'll recognize my guild by 1 of 2 intros ...

In lower level tombs maps,

1 guildie starts by wishing the other team a competive battle, and wishing a good luck and have fun, then I roll a follow up of most important is to have fun ...

Usually at this point I can determine what the opposition is like, mature groups ... respond gl and sometimes throw in a smile ... these groups I know I have to have my wits about me cause they are generally more balanced and competitive.

In Hall maps, I usually run a spiritual prayer thing in respect of the gods, and funny ... I see many others doing the similar ... then we tend to share friendly banter before engaging ... almost always after battles, gg always is up on both sides ... if the roll us with a nice build I compliment the key aspects I noticed in it. For instance a nectrotic transversal necro that stole all corpses in a battle ... deserves compliments for doing his job to perfection. I dont have anything against IWAY and have run it before many times, but the point and shoot is just not microintensive enough for me. But hey whatever floats your boat, just take the high road in chat, this isn't prison ... its a game.

The dissapointing thing is that even when you win halls with iway you are still called "inub" "igay" "losers". Even by being polite before...during....and after I still got these after they lost.

Btw.. I've played Cwz's iway team and they are good and didnt trashtalk at all. They replied with a gg win or lose.

I have to agree.
Can't remember about gg (because I write only gg if I think it was really a good game, which rarely happens against IWAY because either you win or loose within the first minute) but neither WN nor CWz talked trash when I was fighting them.
